Looking at the comparative PS3 VS PC screens, you can see that the environment in the PS3 version is rendered at a significantly lower resolution and up-scaled. It looks like the texture resolution is lower as well. But the dynamic shadows are there and look quite good.
It's a definite downgrade - but I find it acceptable if it runs smoothly and can handle the same volume of characters as the PC version - which I suspect is why the resolution was sacrificed to begin with.
Also, strangely enough, sometimes games look better at a lower resolution... FF7, 8, & 9 certainly do.
I find the graphic good for PS3
Here are 2 pics for PS3 <-> PC comparison:

Earlier that day...
Oh no! don't report me! *cries* After all the crap u post when I make posts, man up. I take back what I said about you having spunk, now ur being a lil bish.
Have you seen the facebook page? ppl are like, "what game is this?" "is this a new FF?" "is this the remake?"
When I wanted to figure out if I wanted to play guild wars 2 i went to their official site on a regular basis, same thing with Diablo 3... So now when they go to the official page looking for MORE info.. there is actually LESS. It's been almost 12 hours since those were released on other sites & still nothing new on the official website http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/.
As 2 of us have mentioned, we've had to "research" just to play the game. And while that's cool, why should you have to alt tab just to figure out what an item that dropped is? You need like 2-3 websites in the background just to play the game, Or print out pages of documents. Why is this necessary..?
Edit: Okay so it turns out this is where all the info is, on the JP side (>_> Translation (JP to English)
...Idk what to say to that just.. blah.

Same thought! Hopefully we get hints of Kefka (or Terra) somewhere in Eorzea for fun! xD
I dont get why so many people complain about the graphics still, when SE said it a million times.... Graphics are not optimized yet!!!!!!! What they are showing you now are just little screenshot to make us happy that PS3 is actually coming together, but they never optimized the game graphics till the actual game release.
SE says a lot of things and something else is actually meant. "Coming soon after E3" *Fast Forward almost 2 months later* "Here you go..ALL SUMMER LONG!." *Fast forward to gamescom* "WEEKLY UPDATES AFTER GAMESCOM!"...so on. Basically, SE say it's not optimized they could pretty much mean the performance and not the aesthetics.
Upside down castle, long stairs at entrance, fanservice game.....
Prepare your weathered gear for some use
I don't think we will see any main characters from other FF games in FFXIV.
Terra/Tina and Kefka are characters that really defined FFVI, in the same way that Cloud and Sephiroth, or Cecil and Golbez defined FFVII and FFIV respectively.
This game needs its own main cast rather than to borrow from others.
Side characters like Amon, The Four Fiends, Bigs & Wedge, etc. are good import candidates, because like 'Cid', they can be easily customized to fit seamlessly into Eorzea without compromising established storylines or personalities.
Unless by "hints" you meant an iconic piece of gear or something (Kain's Lance, for instance) -- which would work fine.
still wishing talk bubbles were transparent but it's not really a big deal.
As long as the gameplay doesn't look like this then i dont care that the graphics had a "downgrade". I still dont see how this looks worse. Ever run around the black shroud at night? is it just me or is it hard to tell whats path and whats wall without looking at the map?
as much as people complain they could make it look much worse. i guess some people cant help themselves when it comes to criticizing things.
i bet thats pc controller too.
Why are people bitching so much about the graphics? It's still better than DCUO or FFXI on PS3 ... and I'm sure SE made them as good as they possibly could while keeping the FPS up and the lag down.
Would you people REALLY want better graphics if the game played at 5 FPS? Or as bad/laggy as FFXIV was at launch of 1.0? Sure the texture resolution may be low, and it may look a little muddy, but I'm sure it will be just fine during the gameplay. Just be happy it's ON ps3 and playable, with decent FPS.
I'm actually quite surprised at all the positive comments i've been reading around the net over these screens. A lot of people out there seem like they will be retrying 2.0 or even trying it for the first time. Only a few negative posts like the "downgraded graphics" ones, and the hilarious "monthly sub on console, FAILZ!!!."
Outside of that though, seems like SE is piquing peoples interest.

Anyone noticed that he's an Elezen?
PS3 is old hardware and as the people at SE said, it was definitely a challenge in putting FF14 on the PS3 due to its limitations.
Also a mmorpg on a console is a completely different beast from a normal game on a console, so something had to be downgraded.
So people need to stop whining for whining sake, because their will be a PC version for you to get then.
Hein or Hyne is a boss from from Final Fantasy III. This is NOT from VI, for those of you not in the loop about the American renames for IV and VI. III was only released in Japan until it was re-released on the Nintendo DS in 2006.
Hyne is also referenced in FFVIII.as the origin of all sorcery.
Games with good graphics but bad FPS on PS3?
Let's start with ....
Bayonetta
Skyrim
mass effect 3
DC Universe Online (HORRIBLE FPS, like 7 second lag when opening a menu where the entire game freezes to load the UI)
Fallout 3
Dark Souls
That does not make any of these bad games, but they all had major frame rate issues on PS3. And they had amazing graphics, especially dark souls. But dark souls bad FPS got me killed many times when the game would pause for just a split second when trying to make a dodge or jump.
Oh I know another game on PS3 with low FPS - Final Fantasy XI. Here is a console-war comment for you but Final Fantasy XI on Xbox 360 had absolutely dreadful FPS. Have you PLAYED at Fafnir on 360 ? Or besieged? Gotten your 3 FPS?
If the PS3 was capable of supporting FFXIV at a higher resolution with better graphics at 60 FPS, square enix would do it. They said many times they ran into issues with the ram and gpu (512 shared for both) not having enough resources. So if they turned up the graphics, FPS (which is likely 30 instead of 60, if I had to guess) would drop from 30 to 1-15.
What I'd like SE to do, is add a graphics toggle in-game. Something the PS2 always needed. We really needed an option to turn off all the shadows, dust effects, weather effects, etc on Xbox 360. As well as an option to turn on every graphics setting as we see fit (maybe we're posing for screenshots? Maybe we're in a house? Maybe we're soloing and there aren't other players? Or maybe we're in town and we need high fps just to walk around).
Optimization doesn't mean that it'll get better this. When Yoshi mentioned optimization, he meant in a way that it'll be set to fit all types of machine speeds, graphic stress levels, and etc. So we can't say for sure that it'll be better or worse yet. We'll have to "Wait 'n See" :p
I am wondering when we'll find out the hard drive requirements and how much of the game is hard drive dependent. It seems like a great way to reduce lag might be to get an SSD hard drive for FFXIV.
It could be much worse :P

Can you guess which one is console!?
I actually remember the Phantom of the Opera in the death's mask during the masquerade scene.

At least from the Las Vegas version
Why u even going on talking about gameplay. i thought we where talking graphivs in MMO's
I wasn't comparing gameplay. just graphics cause peeps bitching about ARR's graphics like they have seen any better than it in the past in the other MMOs they been playing..
FFXIV = best graphics in an MMO... nuff said.
It's very Clearly Hein. They can rename Hein, Amon, all they want. That is Hein.

The UI is acceptable. For a console.
The ps3 is nearly 6 years old (released in November 2006, it's October 2012), and it's graphic limitation is due to non upgradable hardware, which's highest DX is DX9 (Direct X). Those screen shots might not even be the finalized product...
Since they are looking into the increase of graphics for the PC after launch, there is the possibility that when the PS4 comes out they might be able to increase THOSE graphics, considering the PS4 will use DX11/DX12. I do not speak for SE, but there is the possibility.Quote:

Dunno how that menu UI is going to work though.
