What’s your FFXIV Hot Take?

I didn't 'write it off' I said that they get more flak sometimes because they're women. I even went out of my way to write as much in parathesis too. I'm not interested in debating you esp not over something I literally said in my last post that I don't believe.

I think this is why Alph is accepted by the community, and Wuk less so. He's falliable, he's messed up incredibly badly at times, and grown from the experience. He was also not liked as much by the playerbase in ARR, but after his cockup with the Crystal Bozos and the HW journey, he's had time to grow as a character

Wuk, meanwhile, seemed to just sort of stumble into the correct solutions multiple times, the most egregious example was the 'oh we accidentally stumbled into a load of prepackaged banana leaves for the cooking contest'. And since she's only one expansion old, it's much easier to just consign her to the side-character dimension and forget she exists for the most part ala Lyse, rather than try to course-correct her character (since a lot of it is now set in stone)

I think part of the problem with Wuk also, was how hamfistedly she got forced into being the focus of the story at all times. There were two plots, Wuk and the contest, and the 'Krile's origins/earring mystery'. By making the target of both the same thing (the Golden City), any time that should have been a break from Wuk and a focus on Krile's story, became a Wuk moment too. DT would have likely gone way better, I think, if we'd gone with Koana to the north, as he'd the have had time to have had a character arc of his own of 'oh taking tech too far is also kinda not great' with how S9 uses souls. And we'd have had a break from Wuk (who would presumably come back for the finale because Living Memory is accessed via Yak Tel)

Alright, how about this one.

- They should bring back tier 2 Mount Speed upgrade for the expansions that don't have them(Shadowbringers onwards), and Mount Speed should affect flight speed. Current flying speed can be the "base" speed that you upgrade from.

With how big (and empty) maps are these days, this is less a hot take and more a quality of life change the game needs.

Being honest, I just want more things to complete and more checkboxes to check, the change to flight speed is just a matter of giving a use to those checkboxes.

I'm tired of seeing houses that stay empty and look plain ugly – while many players are still searching for a nice lot.
Even if you're just gil farming – decorate your house! You have the gil.
If not – give the house to someone who actually cares about it.

I wish flying and driving in general felt a bit better than they do now. If that's not possible (FF14 will never control like Guild Wars 2),
I would also appreciate it, if the developers came up with other ideas to make traversal a bit more interesting.
World of Warcraft adressed this with Dragonflight.

Oh, and I'd also love to see more jump towers/jumping challenges in the exploration zones and more jump maps in the Gold Saucer. ^^
Which brings me to my second hot take; jumping is actually a lot of fun in FF14 and it's underutilized. :)

Okay so, not to detract from it being a "hot take", but define "decorate", cuz, let me use an example, my butt neighbor, as in, his house's back is to my house's back, is a FC mate of mine, he haven't decorated his house much because he claims he is bad at it, so the inside of his house is simply set to lowest lighting effect, and he has one Stuffed Calca plus one Stuffed Brina in a corner of the basement, would you consider that "decorated"? he has tweaked the settings of the house, and he has placed items in the house, but most wouldn't call that "decorated".

It should be designed in a way that shows someone put effort into it.
Of course, not everyone is good at it - effort does not automatically lead to good results,
and without mods or glitching, many won't achieve the desired result.

But I still expect SOME effort.
In a FC, many can take on the challenge. And for private homes, one can also ask friends or hire a designer.

I'm simply tired of constantly seeing houses—all with bare walls, no garden decorations—often locked or empty.
Sometimes there's a note on the door saying they're working on it —but no—
many houses remain like that for years and are an eyesore for any neighbor and buyer who actually cares about home design.

Many properties receive no bids at all – simply because all the neighboring houses look plain, have an empty garden, are locked and/or unfurnished.
You never see anyone there – and the view is simply awful.

I did play games where job discrimination was real, or certain specs if the game had them. Also played games where classes and balance overall were in the gutter, and everything became a face roll with skipping multiple mechanics, and dungeons/ end content became a joke.

Hard pass from me.

What I was trying to get to is that this is a nightmare to police, you need to define what "decorated" means, you need to figure out a way check every last house, if it is an item placement threshold people would just circumvent it by placing stuff haphazardly...

It's not that the idea is insane, it is, but this is a hot takes thread, it's that the problems aren't just the premise, everything about this is a nightmare.

Yes, this is something Square can't fix. The change has to come from the players themselves...
from the willingness to put in a little effort, to pester their friends about it if they're too lazy, to report players that sell houses online,
to landscape their gardens and beautify their house walls to make the neighborhood more attractive and win over new neighbors.
And I'm pretty sure this is once again a problem of Western mentality — and not as severe on the Japanese servers.

With that said, even in our fc not everyone is motivated in that regard.
And I often took the time to help out. The FC provided me with funds so that I could buy and craft furnishings, and I had the motivation to try things out and help.
Others did it themselves, or started helping me, or landscaped the garden and bought new house walls; some also obtained designs from other players.
Even if some houses aren't used often, it will be appreciated by players who enjoy going on housing tours.

For me, it's always fun to visit other players' homes, to get new ideas and admire their creations.
Many simple designs also hold their own charm or witty secrets.
But time and again you come across areas where most houses are simply taken and untouched.
Nobody comes by. Nobody invites anyone in. Nobody would spend time in the garden.
It's a real shame. It's unfair to those who want a nice house.
And it's unfair to those who do have a house but have to look out onto a dreary, boring neighborhood.

From Heavensward to Endwalker, the game is impressively good.
Dawntrail is a trash truck on fire that rolled over from a cliff. I can't believe how poorly written this story is. Wuk Lamat is the worst character ever written in all FF14.
Dawntrail made me stop playing FF14 in 2024 and now i'm just rushing the MSQ to get ready for the next expansion (I hope is worth it).

- Hoary Boulder is the best Scion.
- Hilda should be a Scion.
- Male Viera and female Hrothgar were a mistake and need to be deleted.

I played FFXI from 2006-2023 and we had real job discrimination, not just for a a month or two or inbetween patches but for years of certain jobs never perma declined for merit parties, never prio for shared loot (eg. a pup wouldnt get a MNK piece before the MNK) Always underperforming in certain content because the jobs base kit etc etc.

Point being job discrimination has never existed in this game and the type of exclusion everyone is imagining is far off from what real exclusion actually is.

Real exclusion means you don't get to even exist in casual content on the job and again this game is a social sim.
If a player is unable to find a group of people to play with thats kind of a them problem. An earlier reply made a good point that probably the huge majority of people are just going to play what they want even if it's bad, and friends wont care either. If you're good players you will find a way to make most if not all comps work in some form.

I understand what you're saying though, I just think this game needs job imbalance, some jobs do need to actually suck if you're not investing time to get better at them, some jobs should just be bad in certain content, but good in other types of content and you have some really good players that are 99th in everything because that's their job, they identify with it, they roll with it.

But to be fair that requires these people to actually give us different types of content that isnt all just the same kind of thing.

Here's another one:

People who "want" classic servers would beat all the content in a week, then proceed to leave forever and go back to complaining about the Live server. The classic servers would be packed for that one week, then no one would ever log back in and they'd become emptier than Dynamis.

Since a hell lot of players keep playing the game for the story and characters, involving the NPCs for side content would add a LOT of fun and value (and replayability) to it.

And I don't just mean have one of them show up for a minute or two during the cutscenes, I mean let us take one of them with us companion style (our choice who) at all times, show them running next to us like in dungeons, have them contribute to conversations, and let them comment on things that happen.

Y'shtola is the most overrated character in all of Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy as a whole, and she should have died back in Stormblood launch...

My hell fire take is Dawntrail as current content with how gearing, combat and job design, QoL improvements, and available new side content was still a vastly superior experience than Heavensward was during its heyday by miles.


My less explosive take is that so many more raids should be MSQ required. Alexander, Ivalice, Eden, Pandemonium, and Myths of the Realm should all be part of the MSQ with how much consequential information is in them. Now that cross region matching is coming, I think any remaining hold up is going to go since they'll be easier to get into than ever.

Developers continue to design high end raids like everyone is playing Physical Ranged DPS when most non-Physical Ranged DPS jobs aren't even designed LIKE a Physical Ranged DPS.

They do, but they tried designing them like everyone is a melee DPS in Endwalker. Remember those giant hitboxes? People weren't happy with it. The bosses were too big and they couldn't do much with a design like that. Many melee players seemed to miss the days of fighting for their uptime, so they reversed course.

Yeah... I have NO IDEA what was going through the Melee DPS minds at that time, because as a tank, even I was glad that I got full uptime for my DPS contribution, except for when the boss said "No!" by becoming untargetable... And I would rather the developers design encounters like everyone was Melee DPS again, but also as a Caster DPS, because most of the party has to be in Melee range, do positionals, needs to stand still, or sometimes all of the above... Though I would be glad if the developers designed all jobs LIKE they were Physical Ranged if it means I can full uptime on my DPS contribution...

Also, I managed to get multiple hot takes in one response post which is impressive for my war torn mind of ADHD...

It *is* much easier to take him seriously in the English, where he isn't going on about sweat. lol Forever grateful to play dub.

They really just need to rework the glamour system. No more "we're adding extra dresser slots to apologize for how ass the system is."

I really want a FF X-2 elaborate animation for when you change jobs.

story is extremely mid and very much overrated, especially since 4.x.

also these devs are not suddenly more competent just because they've decided to change combat by simplifying it even more.

The fanboys and fangirls have an unhealthy parasocial relationship with squex and ykw.
Ffxiv is running on nostalgia slaves of prior games and a minimum cost production guideline.

Indeed! JP Feo Ul stinks and Scottish Feo is the real one.

Also, Sprint should be removed from the game.

Lyse should rejoin the scions now that Garlemald has been dealt with and the band's getting back together.

they should have just stuck with Yda being Yda.

The concept of Meteion is very Japanese and cringy. Why make a series of probes a person with emotions? Makes zero sense. You don't want to a probe to have emotions for the whole reason as depicted in the stories, it might get sad and come back and try to kill everyone. Meteion is just Japanese V'Ger.
