This is an entirely different topic that needs to be addressed anyway. It would change nothing in that regard. The only real way to fix it is making duties cross datacenter.

Gaming communities is not the same as politics. Neither government would have any say in how datacenters are suppose to be split. Also don't believe everything the media says, there are no arrests just for calling politicans idiots in germany there are usually other things involved...

Considering that NA, EU and OCE all came from the same population, it is safe to open it back up. Green light all but JP travel.

During 1.0 and ARR, EU servers were physically located in the USA.
Ever since they moved the EU servers to Europe (Germany, I think?), it has splintered the community in multiple shards. There is still a decent amount of european players playing on NA, and american players playing on EU servers. If you finally open DC travel, the ARR playerbase is going to heal in some capacity.

No this is not safe. I am a million million percent against cross region travel, the threat to the (original British, and others) English language from overexposure to NA is one of the biggest global issues right now. The NA-OCE link should be severed and everyone made to play in their own actual region. Anyone looking to learn English as a second language etc is supposed to be learning British English, not NA's by mistake, which is a big and growing problem.

Ah yes, I should be forced off of the NA server I've been on for 7 years, away from the friends I've made over that time because *checks notes* spelling colour without the U is a threat to the English language. I'm from New Zealand, have you heard how we say deck? The changes from British English to American English are hardly the worst things to happen to the language.

Anyway, I don't see a reason not to open the data centres up between NA and EU, I need help from the British to convince the yanks to spell colour with a U.

You just gave even more reason to open up the gates! Teach them the right way.

As someone who only play on european servers, when I see the number bullshit happening in american servers, being with player behavour and mentality, stupid drama (well we have our sheer, but it's still far from the US side), etc, please don't. In term of number they are more than us, I don't want them to impose their visions and way of doing things on us, we already have our share.

This isn't realistic.

Most people in NA will not travel to EU. Just those that actually want to (or already play alts in EU). Mostly, it's going to be EU players that have their main on an NA world and friends of EU players.

The minority of NA that actually go to EU will feel pressured to just learn how they do things and adopt the concept of macros.

As for dramas and behaviour? There is plenty of toxic behaviour on the EU side. I would actually say there is far more toxicity in the EU region. Just doing a few roulettes rarely on my EU alt I see toxicity in an average dungeon run - I never see this, ever, in NA.

broo I already play on NA as an EU resident bc the majority of my friends who play FFXIV are from NA, I'm already living the 150ms raiding hell haha

Even more amusing considering that there is no such thing as "NA English", this is specific to Canada - take a look, we borrowed from multiple cultures to have our own version https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_English , however the funniest thing is that historically - that's how English has grown - we could import words from any country at any time.

I’m in eastern Canada with literally the same ping to both EU and NA. I’ve been playing since 2.0 on NA (Aether) and more recently on EU (Light) the past 2 years doing all varieties of content and honestly this comment is VERY true imo. Not to say there are no idiots in EU, of course there are, but EU is by far MUCH more pleasant than NA. Especially in DF and PF. I adore EU tbh. NA is considerably more toxic. Whatever the majority wants to do in this matter is obviously fine but I kind of like the separation for these regions. SHRUG

The evolution of English is something I find kind of interesting. Old English is very, very different; imagine not saying "animal" but referring to every animal as "deer". The Norman invasion is the main reason we have a lot of French influence in the language. Spelling wasn't really standardized until very recently (good luck to anyone wanting to read Shakespeare without translating it to modern English). A lot of the standards in US English largely came about as "the brits had it that way, then they changed it and the US didn't get the memo", or things just developed independently because a standard had yet to be developed from either end. Languages change and evolve over time, especially when they get influences from other cultures, it's normal.

Those are example I would like to keep. For example the whole" Au'ra are groomers" thing seems so dumb to me. If it wasn't for the forum and reddit, I wouldn't even know about this kind of things. Every time I see something that send me in a "WTF" state, in the forum, it's an american thing. There sure isn't culture shock, but there seem to be enough culture differences to be warry.

IMPO, most people on EU kind of seem to have entered this silent "I do my thing and you do yours accept it or kindly fuck off" agreement where they agree on a baseline of courtesy regardless of where they're from or what they do, while on NA they seem to be obsessed with micromanaging every single bubble that exists.

Why not all datacenters? JP included? By the way, I just wish they'd restrict the market boards to prevent messing up economies... they should have done that with just basic world travel but they didn't. I'm not sure if they did that for OCE one or not as I haven't tested it.

Bumping this thread, please just let me play with my friends, especially when it's literally just a switch you have to flip.

There's also nuance in the notion of "British English" as anyone who has visited Glasgow (and dozens of other UK cities) can attest.

NA and EU gaming cultures are somewhat similar, but JP has it's own thing going, I know there's the SEA/OCE community, but not sure if they're a big number.

Making it so JP can travel but NA/EU can't travel to JP would probably be better

I've never understood why this would be an issue. The vast majority of players advocating for NA/EU travel do so because they want to hang out with friends, not because they want to raid with increased ping.

I totally agree with this. I find myself playing more on EU atm. Plus it's easier to find people to play with in languages other than English.

I also want NA/EU cross region data center travel to be enabled. I got friends in both regions and I'd like to be able to do content with them without having to endure high pings in Oceana. If they have to include restrictions to shout chat or w/e so be it, as long as I get to play with my friends.

At this point, any semblance of community on any given server is a corpse in its grave. So, any kinda of obvious objections I could have are moot.

Please. I would love to go to EU for social visits. I've tried making an alt there but the ping is just a non-starter.

Also thinking EU / NA travel would be nice. Have had an alt on NA servers, but not quite at current lvl yet.

I would love this, I have friends in both NA and EU. I've currently lost a few of my EU buddies because they transferred to EU for various reasons... I just want to play with my friends SE :< /cry

I was talking to my friend just the other day how I was thinking of moving my character back to EU servers since she barely logs in (and all others have moved on) so I was basically a lone wolf at this point. Timezones are an issue, I can barely get a prog or two for chaotic, and more parties happen when I'm probably sound asleep. The travel would just solve so many headaches and issues I have.

I am tacking onto this. I have been losing interest in this game since my friends on NA have faded off and I cannot play with my EU friends. We did try going to the OCE servers, but the ping there is absolutely horrid and due to the timezone difference, it's hard to be able to do anything with other players unless you show up with a full group. I am really praying SE will allow NA and EU soon. I'd love to do more with my friends and I don't want to have to move. I have been on Balmung since the launch of ARR and don't want to lose that nor my house. I just want the ability to go visit.

This would also help a lot of people who are able to get on at various times to be able to find where the active players are and join in on things. I would think this would help with player retention too. I know it certainly would refresh my fleeting desire to be here anymore.

I'm EU and have been playing on NA since I started.
A good portion of my friends are EU too.

There's hardly a reason to not greenlight this, imo.

I especially want this so I can travel away and escape the DDoS that completely ruin the game, without having to abandon friends.

They've openly stated that it's a matter of interest. What gets me is that nobody I know is against it.

I told you guys it won't happen over censorship laws... Now we have proof USAID funded programs and groups to go after gamers.
