I thought that is how you'd feel. I havent played the Advance versions enough to judge them but do love the ps1 version.

Mind you, as stand alone tittles, they are not bad, not by a mile, they are actually pretty good games, now on the story and gameplay is where they diverge drastically, for one the story of the follow up tittles are more "Kiddie" and mild, tho they do still retain some semblance of the original in a degree.
And yes FFT on the PS3 would be epic, just to see those sword skills from the first battle in up to date graphics would be awesome, i always wanted them to do a FFT- The 50 year war. like a prequel of sorts.
To my knowledge it's less about SE giving up on Ivalice and more on the fact that the guy that largely created that whole world is no longer working for SE.
Anyway, Red Mage and Dark Knight. I could live with DRK being more drain-based through their weapon skills or job abilities rather than being reliant on spells (scroll down to the DRK part of the OP in the link for examples).
RDM would definitely need a system where melee and magic work together to make the job tick, IMO.
Yazmat was working for SE until FFXII, FFT came out in 1997, FFXII came out 2006..... In 9 years, there was no FFT-2, no Vagrant Story 2, no OBT-2, No insert any game made by yazmat that was a classic. Yup they dint give up on the series.... just like every other series outside of main Final Fantasy, they just put it to sleep forever lol
Considering that after his leaving SE somehow caused them to forget about the whole Ivalice Alliance thing they had set up, it is something to think about. I was also trying to draw the paralel to what Capcom is doing to Rockman/Megaman, as the guy who created that left and the franchise was suddenly put out to pasture for the most part. We might have a similar scenario, except you don't have a trillion people going berserk over tactics like they did over Megaman.
If by better you mean a dumb down version of the original in every aspect, then yes they are, FFTA-2 is alright in my book, was miles above the first tactics advance, but nowhere near original tactics.

If it is about spells people worry about with the two, they could add the spells they remove from thaumaturge/conjurer to DRK and RDM. Scoruge, Bio, and Shadowsere to DRK, Banish, Dia, Water Magic to RDM. Or the classes that are leveled up to create them.
Enemy monsters can still use these spells, so they aren't just gone.

The "boss fight that happens to take place on an airship that wouldn't be mechanically different if it had taken place on the ground" (like CoP 6-4), or "fight involving airships with mechanics the raid has to react and work with in order to get the win against the enemy and their airship" (like the Gunship Battle)?
DRG seems like it already fills the DRK role. It's a glass cannon heavy melee DD that drains and sacrifices HP, and wears dark spiky broody armor. I'm just curious how they could differentiate DRK enough from being a DRG with a sword to really justify it being added.
Going by this logic, they might as well not even add the Musketeer that people also once because archer fulfills that role. Both ranged physical attacks, different weapons and skill sets. Nor the Archanist because Thaumaturge is already the magic attacker.
Doesnt work for those people tho, they want Musketeer and Archanist, just like other want DRK, RDM, SMN and all those good things.
DRK would have a different weapon and skill set than DRG.
This type of thinking is also only going to prevent the game from expanding. Adding Jobs reguardless of what the job is or looks like is expanding. To all the people that dont want to be DRG, MNK, WAR, or GLD, DRK would be a new Melee class that would probably fit them better. Being able to play something that fits you better is why we need more jobs/classes around.
I think FFXIV desperately needs sandwiches. You just can't get one.
I think if the DEV team were to work more creatively/ SE approving it and all, we can have better story line and memorable quest. Seriously, I don't recall any quest I may have done since I 1st booted up this game in 2010(other than part of the beginning with some kids in a forest.
Most quest now are just so forgettable and it's all about completion and rewards. It's hard to even care what happens next! I hope they restructure quest, missions and everything in between. That's what this game needs. And (damn it!) put some voice-over narration in this game or something SE. It highlights the main scenarios your on and make it feel alive, it's something new to try.

Not to piss in your cheerios but, the only reason people voted against DRK is the same reason they voted for "Viera"..Yoshida used an example that scared people (OMFG I HAVE TO MAKE A DIFFICULT CHOICE? DISLIKE) and an example that closet furries want bady (OMFG BUNNY WOMEN SO HOT.)
Otherwise no one disagree with the jobs, it's because of the example he used.

The more popular choices won out and that's all there is to it. Not a lot of folks want to see a rehash of XI's RDM. That's not to say it can't happen, as Fencer was confirmed in the .dats ages ago and will likely be RDM's class. But the people spoke and THF/NIN got the most votes. It's not about which jobs is better/worse I was just pointing out that it'll likely be a good while before we see either of those classes introduced. RDM is more likely to come first however, as we're lacking mage jobs.
Honestly, why can't they just add them all?
RDM, DRK, THF, NIN, SAM, SMN, BST.

SE knows what the game needs. They put it in the intro reel but left it out the game. The ability to make teamwork matter in new exciting ways while making each class stand out on it's own. Archer shoots arrow. BLM makes it flame arrow. Roegadyn grabs human and does fastball special.
This way. You wouldn't have a bunch of ppl spamming BLM so they could just DPS all the baddies and call it strategy.
Oh and this game needs more buffs, debuffs and stealth options.

Able to summon 3 Ho's to damage your enemies after using your ability: "Pimp Slap" on them. The Ho's can use "Steal" on the enemy, in which they return to you after the foe is defeated.
