There's a really goofy bug on the Pictomancer artifact gear where it will hide my ears but for whatever reason shows my earrings. Which is kinda funny because it also tells me just how much my ears can poke out of that hat if they allowed them to lol.

I suppose the PCT head piece is big enough for the ears to be hidden in there but it's indeed funny. I suppose part of the reason why the ears don't show here is because they'd have to design the head piece so that part of the ears peek out.
When we do get them, they either show fully from a "hole" or they get an ear sock, which are of various sizes and shapes (sometimes illogical too).
So much gear in DT just ignores ears. I'm so frustrated and over this laziness.
To quote another gem "The devs cut so many corners Dawntrail is just a sphere"
I don't know if DT just wasn't done baking and needed more dev time or they ditched FF14 to work on something else half way through, were reminded DT was up soon so they came back and packaged what they had done and called it a day.
Usually its the Art team with severe back problems carrying entire expansions, but this time even they didn't seem to show up. Be it the paradoxical/Nonsensical dye channels on NEW armor, the arbitrary random restrictions like undyeable weapons, but dyeable armor?!
Hroth/Viera just not getting hats "because its to difficult" yet they are perfectly fine chopping off Miqo ears when they get in the way.
Sadly the answer is just chronic dev apathy. CBU3s team outside of heads very clearly don't like working on FF content (even 16 had some pretty blatant laziness)
They keep repeating they are "Working on [Viera/Hrothgar hats]" for years on end, and then turn around and pull this. They're not working on that, and now they've given up on Every other race too.
I think there is a lot of doom and gloom in these posts that have become inaccurate. Lots of helmets and hoods *are* usable on hrothgar and viera, and the missing miqo'te ears on the new Vanguard helmets were just an error (to be fixed) that exclusively affected female miqo'te, not even males. I strongly doubt they have given up, not shown up, or other such ideas.
There's work that is missing, but if they say they're going to fix it in the future, I believe them.
Said Vanguard armor also has a bug report that it chops off tails. Except that one is "Intended" according to them moving the thread. Meanwhile missing Ears is actually a bug?
So Ears are fine in some cases? but not tails? Tails are chronic offenders of clipping like wild. But in this specific case just chop them off? It's impossibly difficult to keep up with the mental gymnastics. Is it malice? Hanlon's razor says usually no.
But boy does it feel like malicious laziness. The bare minimum was the absolute most they were willing to put into these things
Bumping for visibility
At this point I just don‘t bother anymore with headgear that hides ears.
When it’s pure glamour gear or outdated gear that does it like the Sentai costume from summer that hides tails or the viper hood I just throw them away.
Maybe it will show up in some statistics as a footnote.
Yes I can be really petty.
The Vanguard Fending (and Maiming) set hiding tails feels kind of like a bad joke as there's basically a perfectly functional spot for the tail to come out off and it likely wouldn't even have clipping issues most armors have... But the ONE TIME they do that they hide the tail.
Yeah, if anything that armor should have provided a custom tail like how it works for charr in gw2. And it's not like FFXIV only got 1 tailed race. nearly half the playable races have tails, one of which is the most popular race.

I think that is what's so shocking about all of this: Miqo'te are the most played race. If they're getting their ears and tails chopped off, then Viera and Hrothgar (especially Hrothgar) are doomed.
(I'm being dramatic, but...)
I think they keep forgetting that races other than Midlander, Roegadyns and Lalafels exist. As every other race just gets treated as midlanders by the devs, except Hroth's get treated as Roes.
Nah , you're right. Their treatment of features for beast races has only gotten worse with the years. Tbh I'm almost certain that if it wasn't for strong community outrage over chopping off hrothgar ears on those hairstyles way back they wouldn't have bothered bringing them back purely by how they've treated the whole issue so far. They need another kick like that to pay attention again. Pretty sad getting to your artifact gear and being greeted once again with your ears chopped off on some of the most basic hat silhouettes.
Though the wildest thing with miqos is the sheer inconsistency. In the same dungeon they had gear that got rid of their ears and tails you also have this hat.
https://i.imgur.com/WiH0r1j.png
Its perfect. Just like ARR hats. Am not sure why that one hat in particular even got that treatment. Must be a dev who really wanted a good cat cap that worked on it or something LOL.
Wow, I would've believed that hat was from the ARR-era if you hadn't told me!
The inconsistencies in quality lately has been prevalent in many aspects of the game. It's made even worse by how silent the devs have been on the matter. I'm hoping this upcoming Live Letter mentions the removal of ears and tails, but I doubt it will.
Still, like you said, we need to keep making a big stink about it, so that the devs can finally fix the issue.
Very few helmets completely hide lalafell ears and I was personally greatly dismayed that a few dawntrail gear pieces hide lalafell ears because it's so rare for that to happen. Actually, lalafells and elezen often have their ears pointedly accounted for in the same gear that the miqo'te lose them, such as the Euphrosyne visor of healing or some of the Anabaseios hats.
I personally want an option to hide animal ears from all races. (Viera, Miqote, Hrothgar, Aura)
Some of you may say it defeats the person of being that race and I just got to say is that I choose my face more on body type and facial features than the animalistic traits. I just want to be a male viera without those antenna ears sticking out.
Looking like they are also hiding Miqo tails now too. I got the Vanguard fending set yesterday and was surprised to find my tail gone too.
I'd be fine with my ears being hidden if it meant I could wear more headgear. Like it's always the things I actually want to wear like the fending bandana from Arcadion.
If they can't properly design the mesh for those races, honestly I'd rather lose my ears and gain hats rather than have it sticking abnormally out of the hat. This is my personal opinion anyway.
This honestly . I firmly believe that if they decided to have a bit more communication with people about things like this and put out more notices updating us on work for things like this it would be a better environment for both playerbase and devs. Would really ease up the tension and friction thats been bubbling so much with leaving their playerbase feeling like they don't give a shit to listen to them about anything, even things that are clearly broken or not in line with the quality that they've done before/promised us .
And just stop letting that same playerbase rip each other apart with camp Turbo Corp Shills and camp Criticism lol. We all love the game and want to see it thrive and be better. Silence is good for nobody. Complacency is good for nobody. And Square need to let go of their ridiculous pride over things like this because its starting to feel petty even if that's not their intention.
I'm still baffled they never did any official notice for the the plentitude of feedback concerning shoddy graphic updates and glitches but had one for changes to viper lmao.
I think at this point its absolutely unreasonable to expect players to wait for a magical date of a Live Letter that isn't even a consistently scheduled event in advance when the issues are so rampant and at large throughout the game with this expansion , even more than ever before. Buckle down , be honest and work on the stuff you broke or didn't bother finishing proper because your business unit is being stretched on several projects against better judgement.
Can't stand to see them do 1 more engagement bait post but do nothing to work on their method of addressing issues in their goddamn game. :)
There was a bug associated with this cap that they fixed in 7.05.
Will have to keep our eyes peeled in case it's present on other pieces where the ears stick out so that we can report it again.
Talking with a friend, and was noticing how a lot of gear that hides Miqo ears are modelled in ways that things are on top of where the ears would be. Really feels like they made it only for hyurs and didn't bother checking across races so they simply hide it instead
I love it when hats have Miqo'te ear pockets. I just think that they're so cute & charming.
One of my favourite pieces of headgear is the serpentskin hat of casting because of the cute ear pockets. I also really like the kudzu hats of casting/healing, the welkin hat, & other wizard hats with ear pockets.

I only have one Miqo'te character that I play, & when it comes to hats I mostly stuck to the big, wizardly ones. There are plenty out there that don't have any ear pockets (Stormblood-Dawntrail black mage artifact gearsets comes to mind...), which is pretty disappointing.
With big hats like that, though, you could shrug & rationalize the lack of ear pockets with something about there being enough space inside the hat itself for Miqo'te ears (& I would disagree), however, a lot of headgear has inexcusable exclusions of Miqo'te ears, like the street cap from the $22 USD plus tax street attire set from the online store. Like, what the hell is this?
https://fashionninjutsu.com/wp-conte..._179.png?w=750
One of the first results when looking up the street cap is a mod to let Miqo'te have their ears back. https://armoire.glamourdresser.com/2...ap-Preview.png
& on a related note, they still haven't taken the time to implement good, wearable Viera & Hrothgar hats (without shrinking the hat, completely doing away with hairs & ears, &/or clipping ears through hats), but some random modder is out there painstakingly making otherwise invisible headgear wearable on Viera & Hrothgar without cutting any corners.

To be clear, I'm not endorsing the use of mods. The fact that players feel the need to step up & improve these quality of life features themselves because the developers are neglecting these features is unacceptable. I & hundreds of thousands of other players spend way too much money on this game to simply accept how they're handling all this.

The dark secret under the helmet.
Just give me the hats!!! I don't even care if you delete the ears
Bumping for support
I'm amazed at how this game boils down to "I'd rather have a poorly done job than nothing at all."
It's like... seriously?
We paid for this game, there's a paid store within the game, there's a subscription fee for it, and if we want to store more items, we have to pay monthly... and yet, we have to bow our heads and accept the bare minimum or nothing?
It wasn't by bowing our heads and accepting sloppy work that we got male Viera, female Hrothgar, improved faces in the benchmark, hairstyles for Viera and Hrothgar, the return of Hrothgar ears when they decided it would be easier just to remove them from the new hairstyles... among many other things that were only achieved due to popular pressure.
This game used to be better cared for when it was just a gamble that could shut down in a few months, like many MMORPGs of that time, and now that it has become the most profitable in the FF franchise, they lower the quality? Honestly, I think we need to be much more critical of this.
God I wish more people shared this sentiment. They got too comfortable getting the sub money and just don't try to put in the effort they used to. I didn't pay 9 years of sub for the good devs to get promoted onto other projects and leave this one with the rookie devs. The quality drop post EW and into DT has been disappointing to say the least.
To be honest, I noticed the decline in quality since SHB, with unfinished races, the simplification of some jobs (and I even remember them ruining the bard, which only got fixed after a lot of complaints on the forum. I was even kicked out of a savage group to make room for a dancer). And everyone knows that Vieras and Hrothgars don't have feet, but they cut corners on that in this game too, or is it more like "I'd rather have my paws removed than not wear shoes"
I made a post back then, saying I was worried about the direction things were going, especially when they added the finger snap emote and the Cruise Chaser mount to the Mogstation, two things a lot of people were asking for... and they did it again with the shadow keeper mount
SHB was also when I started noticing that they frequently began removing ears and tails from the races. I know that the well-made items were brought over from 1.0, and that after the events that led to ARR they had to cut costs, which is why some items lost their details, but come on! That's in the past now, and they say FFXIV is the most profitable, so do better.
I think you misunderstood what I said.
I'd rather have actual effort put into showing our ears rather than just have them stick out of the mesh. If that isn't possible, I'd rather not see the ears poke through the hat because in my opinion that is UGLY. You're entitled to have your own opinion, I find it unsightly, either do it correctly, or not do it at all.
You saying 'just show it guise' then quoting me is basically you saying:
"I don't care if they poorly do it!!! LET IT STICK OUT!"
Makes me wonder who is actually wanting a poorly done job here...?
