Inb4 FFXVI just has a single male character said one single line "I like that guy" (for his personality, attitude, bravery...) and let the community imagines the rest.

for main characters, not really need it. Because the devs prefer to not have official sexual preference in their main characters
All that drama and it's probably just that Shiva will say she made out with a girl once.
No LGBT+ Content in FFXIV. We don't need this in a Game.
Why should there be any ill intent in representing a certain setting in the way it looked irl? Even nowadays, many European countries are still very white. And no, that's not a problem at all.
America is trying to turn any culture that doesn't look like them into some sort of a sin, but the world outside America is vast, and trying to replace everything with your own culture is not cool with me. There shouldn't have been any controversy about this to start with, and there was nothing wrong with Yoshida's reply.
Sometimes I think part of the reason there is a lack of representation is because developers and media producers are afraid of doing it wrong. Nobody cares how the white straight character is used. Nobody cares if they get murdered or put into some awful situation. Nobody cares if the white straight person is the big bad villain all along. And so because nobody cares, white straight people are often over used because it's safe. If we make the character gay, asian, black or anything else, then they need to do more research to make sure they are represented correctly. For example, if someone needs to be shot and killed in this setting, let's make it a white straight person. Cause if the character were instead gay or black, then people would read to much into it and think the show was trying to portray some false narrative instead. Sometimes lacking representation is a lot safer for producers than to accidently misrepresent in an effort to represent. Nobody sits there and goes, "They did it wrong but at least they tried". No. Doing it wrong gets you called racist, homophobic, transphobic, ect ect. Then they get the held accountable side of things that they should have just did it right the first time. So to avoid that whole problem, they just make it a white straight guy instead because virtually nobody cares what happens to them. If people didn't let how the characters used in the story impact them so much, we might see more representation. But at the risk of being called racist, homophobic ect, they play it safe and keep them out or used very sparingly and with extra caution and care. So this probably does lead to more tokenism in stories because they are trying extra hard to make sure they do it right.
The worst part about all of this is how Califorina, LA/Hollywood in particular, have made all of us look bad on the world floor. This may be a shock, but among the dwindling middle class, they really don't care about X's inclusion in Y. The only ones that tend to push that mess are the usual suspects. I would start naming things in particular but I feel like taking shots at Califorina is already putting me in hot water depending on who is reading, lmao. Oh well, I'm still enjoying making jokes as things get worse. What else is left at this point? We are already in too deep!
It's already in the game, there's multiple side quest NPCs that are openly gay. Haurchefaunt also openly flirts with you in the JP version of the game regardless of your WoL's gender. Alisaie obviously has a crush on the WoL regardless of their gender. And I mean, you can get gay married. So it's already there.
If there isnt LGBT in game then I NOT PLAY IT!!!
What's the advantage? Will they kill things faster, get more experience questing? If it's just a bunch of letters attached to a character, it means absolutely nothing.
To be fair, tolerance of intolerance is a stupid thing. Bigotry is about the only think I will block someone for, because mindless hate is just not worth my time anymore. Not to say that the OP is right when he calls somone a bigot because they are obviously a troll using LGBTQ+ folk as a shield to you know… troll (which is just as bad as being a bigot in some ways) but its an interesting point.
what you do in your place is your bussiness i dont want to know about it
what you do in your place is your bussiness i dont want to know about it i come to play a game drama free
This is Ryne and Gaia erasure
What do you mean with LGBT+ characters? The ability to wear female gear as male?
Otherwise that phrase confuses the hell out of me since games aren't meant to aim for sexual orientation at all. Games should always be neutral and politics free so they don't make anyone feel uncomfortable or annoyed.
I know many people who are fed up with politics being in their face 24/7 so its a potential game killer if you add too much of that into a game.
Honest question, why do you care? (Not you in particular, but this is a very common sentiment in those threads) Who does it hurt if when you create very obvious token characters? I'd argue it's still better than no representation at all. Better than scaring big companies of even trying because it's never good enough.
Is there be a good kind of LGBT+ character and a wrong kind? People who are very openly LGBT+ exist in real life, why should they be excluded?
The risk with having ONLY "characters who happen to be LGBT+" is that it could result in a straight-coded cast in all but name. Fred is still basically your average guy but there's a tiny bio who says he's actually gay (and the audience clapped! Great representation! So progressive). This isn't how it works. Like it or not, LGBT+ people lead different lifes (usually not as much kid focused as straight people, having to deal with coming out etc..) and can have different interests and difference should be that celebrated, not erased. Even among the LGBT+ community there's an overly conformist sentiment of wanting to please and being seen as "normal' by those outside and I kinda take issue with it.
But it's probably too much of a hot take for a video game forum.
I think representation is good, them being LGBT wouldn't need to be a big thing, just a reference so i don't understand why people are opposed to it. Its just representation.
But i do get the concern that it would be a tick box exercize. The thing is, representation done right isnt a massive lazer focus on it, but rather a mention in passing. it doesnt need to be a big thing for the represntation to be present, but it does need to be done in a right way.
There already is some reference and rep in the game, Im pretty sure theres a gay couple in ARR who were involved in the wander's palace questline and a handful of opaque references to individual preferance.
Ultimately if there were to be any, it need to be done right. Which i think SQEX would do.
As for "Why does it need to be a thing?"
Representation is important because it shows that people who are not Heterosexual / white do exist and are valid.
Good representation within a narritive will enhance the narritive. But the biggest gain is for young LGBT people. For them the representation matters because it lends to idea that "they" are normal. That they are valid and that they have a place.
Young LGBT people struggle a lot with "fitting" in and being themselves. Represenaaion can go a long way to help with this. IF and only IF it is done right. And seeing it in the fandoms they like, the worlds they enjoy, gives it impact. It never needs to be front and center, but inclusion of characters that are LGBT, have disabilities or are from a minority group dos have impact. But again, it has to be done right, and can't be a tickbox exercize.
An example of it done right is Thancred and Y'shtola. Both have in world disabilities that are actively mentioned but do not form a massive focus - y'shtolas Bindness vs Thancreds inability to manipulate aether. There is an argument to be made that Y'shtolas way of seeing means she isnt quite blind representation - but i think its serves the same function as a blind person using Braille, a stick or a guide dog. Ultimtely, its a confirmed disabiity that has support mechisims to mitigate and shows that y'shtola and Thancred both provide a massive contribution, the disability isnt sidelined, but nor is it who they are. Yoshtola isnt the "blind Scion" she is the scion who happens to blind.

Great job assuming a point I never made and immediatly resorting to the most tired of strawmen. You probably didn't read a single line I wrote.
I put into question the common wisdom that "being LGBT shouldn't be their entire characters" and you went full defense mode "omg he must think people are bigots something something -oh wait I have a great joke DID YOU ASSUME GENDER". I never once even implied bigotry.
What a waste of time that was to even try to actually discuss things in good faith here.
You don't live the life in game charaters live. You don't know they're LGBT or not, but you assumed they aren't. That's people why ask for represention. They are first to be discriminatory by assuming every charater is straight therefore no LGBT representation. Hence the bigotry.
To celebrate LGBT, one must start by not assuming anyone's gender and sexuality.
What the hell are you talking about? Like really.
Did you blank out when you had the general idea that I disagreed with what you wrote and invented the rest of the post in your head instead?
I wasn't even remotely talking about that.
EDIT: I give up, I'd say this user is a bot reading their script but I had more fruitful conversations with ChatGPT.
In my honest opinion, the ability to wear certain clothing that already compliments woman while being a man is already hugely LGBT in its own right.
No need to overdo it cuss it would be rather harsh to give special benefits to people simply cuss they aren't straight :p
I dunno, AI bots can actually read these days.
But stay mad and live in your imaginary world where I all called you bigots and cared about misgendering. You apparently need fake opponents you invented all so much.
EDIT: Incredible retort bravo! Sometimes I forget I might be interacting with actual 15 years olds.
