Here's my hardware, just in case it helps in some way.
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor, 3500 Mhz, 3 Core(s), 6 Logical Processor(s)
System Model: GA-78LMT-USB3 6.0 (Gigabyte)
Adapter Type: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (latest drivers installed)
On Board MOBO Sound Card: Realtek ALC892 Driver Version 6.0.9205.1
Windows 10 (fully up to date)
I'm just gonna hold out for the next patch, unless somehow this is a server-side issue which I really doubt. I've tried basically every fix I could find, and none of them have worked. Going into advanced audio settings and switching the output to my headphones crashed my game twice, and the third time it didn't, but it didn't fix anything.
Even if it's an issue with certain systems, I would posit that the updated sound engine simply needs some fixes. When the stuttering isn't happening, sound effects sound mushy and muffled. I'll hold out for the next patch. Doesn't really matter that much.
Welp, there went my theory. I don't think it ran on dx9 before, but I do agree that they must have changed *something* with how it uses dx11, and apparently dx9 as well (as it still stuttered for me when trying that as a "fix")... and the only obvious thing I can think of is that when they added the spacial audio setting, something they changed had a side effect on some systems. You're right though, seems like all there's left to do is hope they fix it, or use a different computer that doesn't have these issues. I suppose I'm lucky in that matter, as my laptop works fine, but... it's kinda frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a "simple fix" for those who don't have an alternative option :/
Ahhh yes you are lucky lol. I have no alternative unfortunately. But I think I will still login and just do my daily roulettes and other "non-endwalker" stuff. I abandoned my MSQ at the first EW dungeon after just forcing myself to put up with it for the sake of playing EW but it was just making me resent the game and SE for not fixing this during the extra 2 weeks they had to find and fix bugs. So I will just be patient and wait for the fix before I continue. It's not the end of the world, it's uber disappointing, especially seeing all my FC mates and friends enjoying the game without me.... But I guess I will just have some catching up to do.
It's not ASUS. Mine is MSI and I've stuttered sporadically since EW launch. Did the first dungeon and amazingly boss combat music and effects were clear. Trash combat sounds were just that, stuttering garbage. Never had an issue like this in the game before. If I had any sound issues in the past, it was combined with some graphical lag so it was just everything slowing down. This is purely sound and everything else runs smooth as butter.
I see you have great tastes in CPU
6300 unite!
I'm not the best at computer parts, so I'll copy and paste all of the system info I have. I'm terrified of this not being fixed in tomorrow's update and having to buy everything on the PS4 to even play if I want to get through the MSQ in a reasonable amount of time. If this can help any, then I'll be happy.

It seems most of us have outdated, last gen CPUs - and thanks to the socket - motherboards. I wonder if it's possible for devs to still support AMD's FX series of processors or are we at this point. We might be forced into buying new parts, which isn't perfect as I really don't wanna spend hard cash right now.
Also, If anyone of you still use twitter: I'd imagine it being a good idea to ping the dev guy and tell him that the issues seems to be related to that. I don't know if it's rude to do so on his personal account but it could speed up the potential update - if possible.
I hadn't even considered the cpu being to blame... you might be onto something there.
I'll add in my specs too just in case;
CPU: AMD FX-8370 Eight-Core Processor
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 (i use the 770 for my side monitors, didn't have enough ports on the 1070 for a triple monitor setup, lol)
Motherboard: ASUS 970 PRO GAMING/AURA
Sound Device: Realtek High Definition Audio
I'm pretty sure if I can run Monster Hunter world on High settings,ff14 will be fine off my fx-6300
Me and another family member both running 1050 TI Geforce Nvidia cards - I have the problem and they do not. I started out with Realtek driver on the motherboard and moved to a windows driver instead but both are giving the same symptoms. I also started out with Windows 7 and moved to Windows 10 and the issue is still there. I also swapped from motherboard sound to a USB sound card and the issue persists. No dice thus far - whatever this is remains elusive I have been scanning the boards since launch for any and every idea and have sat through the painful queues to test most of them to no avail.
My Specs too:
CPU: AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1050 TI 4GB
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2
Sound Device: Realtek High Definition Audio
My game worked perfectly before this patch and this problem only happens in FFXIV.
Same here, AMD FX 6300
Same here, FX 8320. I hope we're wrong, cuz I'm nowhere near being able to buy a new CPU lol.
Also, since this wasn't posted here yet:
â– Sound related issues (Added: Dec. 7 5:15 a.m. PST)
We have been receiving reports of sound related problems and feedback. We are planning to fix the sound driver in the next patch for some bugs that cause sound to be lost under certain setups, such as no audio playback during cutscenes. We will check the factors that cause these problems and address them individually, so we would appreciate your patience. We will also check for feedback such as "it's getting harder to hear" or "the sound doesn't feel right" individually, and if any adjustments are needed, we will fix them in the patch as well.
Finally, official acknowledgement! Perhaps there is a chance for us after all!
Ditto on the AMD FX, got a 6300 and having issues since 6.0.
Got an AMD FX as well! We might've identified the problem.
I'd assume it's a compatibility issue. Should be fixed in the patch if that's the case.
I'm on AMD FX as well but someone else on one of these threads said they were on an I9.
The more I see about this the more I'm convinced this is an issue on Squeenix's side. Cause like, it isn't clear what's actually causing it. Fixes work for some people but not for others, the audio only stutters in certain situations and seems to get worse over time. I really think it's a simple matter of the sound engine being bugged for some people.
I also have the sound stuttering issue with the AMD FX-8120.
I'm also using an FX 8300 + GTX 1050ti
Oh my, we are definitely into something here
Its just a compatibility issue, they are going to fix it lol
No need to upgrade your rig just because of that
AMD FX 8300 here, having the same issues. Using a Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB as well.
yeah, its all making sense now. i have AMD 6300 and gtx 1080. hopefully they know this is the issue cause the post on the forums was kinda vague in terms of "losing sound". our sound is there its just terrible.
I was running the latest dungeon when my audio began to pop like yours but then my combat/voice sound effects completely cut off.
I'm still online right now but I can only hear music/UI sound effects that occasionally stutter in combat.
Also when I logged in today my sound was still bugged but it was a completely different sort of bug. For the past few days the issue has been choppy audio that cuts out in cut scenes and when many spell effects are going off at once, turning on the spatial surround thing somewhat alleviated that issue (it became intermittent rather than constant). But today the issue was that the sound just sounded seriously messed up, almost like I'm underwater or something, no bass and treble just washed out and distorted, and the weirdest thing is, turning the spatial surround OFF seemed to somewhat fix the issue this time. I have made no changes since I logged in yesterday to my PC or the game so it's weird to me that overnight my issue changed and the opposite suggested fix worked on it this time. So the issue itself doesn't even seem to be constant, different issues on different days just makes no sense to me. I really hope SE is making headway on it because we all just seem to be swimming around in circles attempting these suggested fixes that may or may not work and may work oppositely for different issues on different days. It's a real head scratcher if you ask me. lol
AMD FX-8320 here
Okay so this bug report the person is running an Intel i7 CPU so its not just AMD FX CPUs it seems. https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...und-stuttering.
i tried this and although i only got a few hours of playtime cause of maintenance, i went through a few dungeons, did some fates, tested on a dummy and it seemed to rid the audio bug almost entirely. only time it ever creeped up was during loading screens into super congested areas (sharlayan, limsa, etc) only downside is audio will be low still but its way more manageable than loud and staticky. hoping this holds out til the fix
can anyone confirm if the issue is fixed with todays maintenance? servers back up now just wondering if i should wake my friend up with good news or not xD (hes the one whos had issues not me)
Nope, still there. Logged in with DX11 and a hope but its still happening, now back in a 1K+ queue with DX9 ;_;
Bump! I'm still having this Audio issue too :(
Was hoping Hotfix would address it, I've sent a ticket to SE to raise the issue since it really does diminish a lot of the game experience for me
