Serious note -Why so many toxic players lately?

Been playing since 2014, I only experience real toxic player who actually left the party or raid due to impatient with new players. That only occurred like 5 times since 2014 at playing daily.


I'm a battle mentor, you have to have way with words not to make other feel oppressed to do. There is a different telling and advising someone for doing something wrong.


I usually Show and Tell style, ie. See that boss cast - that needs to interrupt if have the ability. If see purple mark, means you need to stay away from others.


You don't say: "Asmon, you have purple over your head - you should have moved out of the party!"

But the purple mark in world of darkness is a stack mechanic!

They cannot read tooltips of jobs or pf's. I can garanteed you 99.9% is lore accurate.

I'd say for a lot of content, even most Extremes, a death or two is not going to make or break a clear. Then there's things like Cloud Deck Ex where even one mistake can cost the group dearly. Personally, I don't really get mad when people die, unless I'm in a farm party. Making a mistake is normal for anyone. Making the same mistakes repeatedly and messing up what's supposed to be a farm though...that grinds my gears. But even then I don't actually say anything. "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" and such. But yeah, it has to be a special set of circumstances for me to get mad at other players. I just appear to be the strong, silent type when it does happen. :p

If I get stuck in duty finder with bunch of toxic players or group of bad players I just leave. Its better to take a 30 minute penalty than to deal with it.

In-game I meet some of the most friendly people ever, but when it comes to the forums in here its bad.

I try to keep some opinions to myself on here because I don't want Troll gangs on me.

It's better not to care. They can't really DO anything to you here unless you actually break forum rules (something our resident trolls seem to be EXCEEDINGLY good at). But you do you, whatever makes your forum experience better.

If the game population was similar in composition this particular forum (general discussion) I would have an entirely different opinion of the community.. but luckily almost everyone I encounter in game is charitable, friendly or at least content to leave you alone.

Here there are several very weirdly motivated individuals who seem to revel in being contrary, nitpicky, vindictive, irrational and/or just straight up instigators.

There's more people playing. More people means the chances of you meeting cruddy people has gone up. It happens. FFXIV has a generally good community but it's no utopia. Lots of newer people as well or returners who may be carrying habits over that were acceptable or commonplace in other games but not the usual for here.

That sounds hella snarky. Maybe OP is the toxic one bringing toxicity out in others. If I was that Dancer I'd definitely feel like OP was trying to bully me. In my experience, it's usually people telling others they are "bad players" who act like assholes in party finder.

See, I didn't find OP toxic. Just rude.

Rudeness is not toxicity. Toxicity is antisocial asshattery.

There may be overlap, but they're not the same.

And remember, antisocial doesn't mean what probably 90% of you think it is.

Yeah, they were abrasive then wondered why it backfired, more or less. Rude, for sure, at least in the context of the original post. But everyone has bad days. Even I'm guilty of making a snide comment every now and then if I'm going through a bit of a rough patch. To me that isn't even where they went wrong. It was taking one instance of poor behavior and making it out to be a bigger issue than it actually is by casting the net community wide. That accomplishes little more than stirring up drama just for drama's sake. I don't think they are a troll, but this thread doesn't do them any favors.
