Whew, those are some brave words for the forums. Add "he should enjoy it in his own way" and you'll cause a singularity.
This one's throwing down the gauntlet, for sure.

Only bold statements here.
Of course he is free to enjoy any games he wants.
If he has a bad opinion about the game, that's fair it's not his kind of game after all. Except if he skips all the story and buys a levelboost just to say it has no build-up. A particular youtuber did that, deleted their review because the "community was toxic".
What really matters is the community he'll drag along. Have you seen the chaos that is his twitch chat?
Many Ex-WoW players adviced him to play the game alone without his chat, yet it seems he'll bring along his community for which he could spit an unfair judgment to please the public.
Sure, no one deserve this kind of treatment...
Yet it was to be expected, it's one of those situation where the victim hands someone the stick asking get beaten then complain that it's all the fault of the one beating them.
The review was lazy and unfair, a part of the community overreacted. Let's remember it's a few bad ones, not everyone send death treats when they don't get the thing they want.
No matter what there will be people overreacting and lazy reviews. It's both sides fault and a side doesn't represent a big chunck of the community.
Just look at the trolls on the forum, they post a lot yet they don't even represent 0.1% of the community, it's just that they know how to make themselves seen.
Still, no one deserves death treats or insults no matter how rotten their minds can be, we were all cruel kids at one point in our lives.
I praise his efforts! Now if he can reach HW and maybe finishing it without skipping a cutscene...
Oh, they are very strict and active if a person is being problematic enough. Even so, I can chat casually with other players with no problems at all. I just make sure there's no profanity involved and it's not inappropriate. Back when the ToS changes were made to be a bit more...vague in this regard, I too felt this way. But honestly, nothing really changed. Guess it just depends on what people say. It seems like a lot of people forgot these important words of wisdom..."If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
First of he is not a great streamer, second i dont know how i feel about this.. as a ex wow player myself his twitch is more toxic than league of legends.
he can try the game, but i hope he dont last long. WE DO NOT need his toxic entourage in this amazing game.
i personally dont know why ppl are so excited.yikes
I’d just rather not deal with it tbh. There’s a lot of problematic people in the game and i’d rather not take the chance of saying something and them taking it the wrong way and turning it on me. Already had that happen once and i’d really rather not go through that again.
My dude, respectfully you should never take what any commenter on this forum says seriously if they have less than like a 100 post count.
Arkellian, no disrespect, but it's just easier to assume new faces are alts here to rile up trouble. Obviously you are entitled to your opinion if it is indeed your real feelings.
I hope he's prepared for 150 hours of story. This game isn't very streamable, I suppose dailies or whatever he does on WoW isn't either though. People will probably watch him for him, regardless of what's being played. In any case, I'm sure it'll be quite amusing, the amount of fun that will be made at this game or community's expense, and I'm sure many here won't like that.
Questions is why do certain people feel this way who know him. Seems like it's really former WOW players who have a problem with him and not the FFXIV community who haven't played WOW. I don't know him and fine if he comes but seriously from what I've read about him on this forum by people who know him I suspect his coming isn't necessarily a boon to the game.
Secondly the OP is here to stir the pot and many people simply fall for his ploy continuously.
Why should anyone care?
Isn't it obvious? If I recall correctly, Asmongold regularly gets viewers in the mid tens of thousands, that's massive advertisement for this game, and his fanbase are WoW players - a direct competitor of FFXIV. Players who are in the targeted demographic of this game. People can continue to say "who?", "why should anyone care?", but I'm sure SE does. Companies pay tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands for these sort of sponsorships.
He legit watched the job action trailer only for Dark Knight and got all flustered when the first job shown was Gunbreaker. He skipped around the video trying to only find the "big sword guy" instead of just watching it. So yeah, he is probably setting himself up for disappointment.
A toxic individual and his fawning moonies, god help FFXIV
Leveling isn't too bad nowadays, but yeah it's probably jarring for a new player, considering every new job after HW starts at 50, 60 and soon to be 70 and are easily accessible. Unfortunately, unless they do a complete revamp of the job quests for DRK, MCH and AST things will probably stay as they are now. Thankfully, they remembered this misstep and didn't repeat it, but still...that doesn't fix the issue.
I hope that he does enjoy the game, the more the merrier. My response was referring to his own expectations. He's made it clear on many occasions that he dislikes most of FFXIV's aesthetics and wishes that everything in the game was more "badass" (big bulky heroes, big weapons, etc). He specifically singled out Dark Knight as an interest, disregarding the rest in the trailer because they weren't in-line with the aesthetic he likes. If he goes in with that mentality, he is setting himself for disappointment because you can't start as a Dark Knight.
I really do hope he joins the game with an open mind and genuinely gives it a chance. If he likes it, great. If not, that's fair. I don't think most people have a direct issue with Asmon, it's more the crowd that follows him and their raging negativity.
This is a slow news day. If he plays, kool, if not kool. Lets talk about the important issues. Like hats and fantas to change hair :V I kid. But yeah, let me pose a question here. Is it REALLY that big of a deal he MIGHT play? I still don't think he will if you ask me my opinion as I think he's too invested /in love with WoW to move on. And if he does it'll only be until 9.1 anyway. So what does him coming here for the short time it'll be do for our game? Would we be up in arms if Mr. Happy played WoW or something else? D:
I may not dislike Asmongold, but I do dislike his fanbase.
He himself has stated multiple times that he doesn't want it to be a big deal if ever does try FF14, but his fans don't listen and have made it a big event.
Any opinion he expresses will be given the most extreme interpretation possible by the fanbase. Any praise will be seen as "OMG this is WoW-killer," and any complaints no matter how small will be seen as "0/10 literal trash!"
I already know what to expect when he finally starts playing. His fans will swarm whichever server he chooses and bring their attitudes and massive frustration at WoW into the game. The queue times will grow to massive proportions. The quality of duty finder groups will massively drop for days or weeks afterwards, possibly forever it he actually enjoys the game and decides to stay. The forums will be flooded with new players making thousands of identical threads complaining about the ARR MSQ.
Actually sounds liked it would be pretty entertaining to watch happen in real time.
I am here for the drama, guess in a way FFXIV will have new content the coming months.
And yet people somehow experienced a difference. So either the overlap isn't a majority, the overlap isn't the toxic part for the most part, or there is something in FFXIV that somehow curbs the toxicity to some extent, whether it's enforcement of the rules or something else.
It's not overpromotion. It's overreaction to other people having a good experience and sharing it.
Uh huh...Quote:
I hope...just to spite...
So, people in the community calling the community toxic but also want to spite the community and want the community to be riled up or made fun of. Like I said, self-fulfilling prophecy.
What a weird response to a neutral post.
he wont get to HW 100% he either boost his character or he gonna abandon by lvl 20
My belief is that most people complaining about ToS enforcement are those who can't say a sentence witout cussing or insulting someone. In my circles I never heard of anyone being penalised for "bad labguage".
Big part of Asmongold's chat is really toxic, even to himself, but definitely not everyone (especially if you see his latest tweet). From what I heard and saw recently myself, it seems he was quite toxic in the past, but was maturing for the past few years. Atm he seems reasonable to me even though some of his opinions are funny.
The people who hope for a kick at how the GCBTW will react are not the people claiming that the community isn't toxic or that they want to gatekeep the oh so toxic WoW players from the game.
Enjoying seeing people people who lie about the state of the community and who don't take any criticism of the game being faced with differing opinions, or worse, inconvenient truths about the game and its community and their reactions to their exposure to such vicious dissent, is not at all on the same level as basically saying "f off, we don't want you here you toxic pricks" towards an entire demographic while simultaneously claiming that XIV's playerbase is a paragon of acceptance.
While I find your troll baiting with this element very annoying, I will agree with you that his fanbase can be extreme. I think Zak (Asmond's real name) is a pretty decent guy (in his more grounded videos outside of his streams) when he's not got his chat trying to cause mayhem.
But if his chat were to come ingame (not sure they would like WoW) if they were to PERSONALLY attack you, without you baiting them (which now seeing both you profiles posts, seems what you love to do) , then SE would deal with them pretty quickly.
We don't even know if he will be on the same datacentre or server as you (I bet you will move to be on the same server to try and spin your trolling in your favour)
