Because his children are adults by Sharlayan standards and free to make their own choices, so he's not going to stop them even if he disagrees.

Quite a nice trailer even if the faces of the scions looked off to me. Sharlayan looked absolutely beautiful in the trailer, but a bit worse when we got to the ingame version.
I do kinda wonder if maybe the twins father disagrees deep down with the decision on not being part of the coming battle since we did see him balling his fist. I mean even if the twins are adults in their country they are still his children, I kinda doubt that he would be that cold. But it is interesting that they are basically the modern Amaurotines. Ignoring the danger until its too late. I mean even if they built something underground, do they really believe that all would be fine down there? That the final days are just another calamity?
About the expansion poster: I also think that the woman on top is Venat, since she is holding some kind of Ancient mask. Also the thing behind her kinda looks like part of a crystal. I still doubt that Zenos is suddenly becoming an ally. Others have pointed out that villians did appear on the posters in the past and he is kinda on the same position that he was in stormblood. Still curious on why they left out Fandaniel.
I was more thinking about their naming culture for males, do they follow same skin tones for both clans, how tall or short can they be etc aka the little stuff that we have to wait longer for.
I do want to hear how the Dramtaurge got their Viera information was it second hand from females (which is what I would assume happened) as well as maybe finding out why the males must be seperated once they hit adolescence(is it a more physiological thing etc).
The fact we could get 1st hand accounts from male Vieras has me all sort of happy.
The twins father(book isn't on hand and name escapes me) is someone I see us working with but not initially, he has respected his father and his children's views and let them do as they wish, compare this to what happens in the Ast questline and he is far more reasonable and respectful.
I suspect the Sharlayan portion is going to be about convincing him that we need Old Sharlayan to help and they must needs intervene this time or risk losing everything they worked for as well as possibly being where we meet Venat and Hydelyn again.
I just wanna say I love how Estinien has gone from
"I hate Dragons so much I will literally walk around bathed in there blood for days refusing to just wash it off"
to
"I am like 1/5 Nidhogg at least and swear by the Fury that I will actively becoming besties with every single member of the First Brood I come across"
It's legit one of the best character arc's the games history.
With Reaper starting in Ul'dah I wonder if it will be tied to the Order of Nald'thal.
Also wonder from which country trainer will be.
With the death and whatnot, I wouldn't be surprised if they're from Lea Monde, the Republic of Landis, or somewhere in Garlemald. If they wanted to give us a curveball, the trainer would turn out to be another Ascian who is basically keeping out of the main conflict and just watching what happens.
I wonder if Reaper will have Mhachi origins much like BLM did?
We know the Mhachi eventually reverse-engineered Ambapori golems and created at least one of their own. It was that mini boss we fought just before Ozma.
The nullstone is what gave Mhach dominion over the Voidsent and while that is no more, maybe Reaper soulstone acts as a mini nullstone that only works on very weak voidsent. Or maybe we beat the voidsent to submision and becomes a symbiotic relationship: why take over and risk banishment when you can have a steady supply of aether to consume?
But I'm more curious about its job storyline. Since its taking place in Ul'Dah could it be a secret organization that's main focus is to hunt the undead to release their souls?
I noticed in the trailer that on the map alphys dad was pondering over had a gap in the clouds just below garlamald.. any idea what it might be https://gyazo.com/1c70bda4cdf9ee2afb7f5aa8e9f0b8a8
With the level 70 requirement I doubt it will be an Ascian, since you would be able to start the questline before all the big Shadowbringers reveals. Unless they don't reveal their identity until 80 I suppose.
Being from Lea Monde as a nod to Vagrant Story's undead would be amazing but I don't want to get my hopes up.
Rewatching some things:
-The nautilus shell design that serves as Sharlayan's emblem appears in the first "Pandaemonium" dungeon on the floor.
-Labyrinthos' architecture appears closer to an undamaged form of the Dravanian Hinterlands Sharlayan colony than Amaurot. A local aetheryte uses the
-The music in the dungeon crawl, at least the organ riffs, sounds like an up-tempo version of "Golbez, Clad in Dark" from IV.
I'm inclined to believe the Reapers are an extremist, possibly heretical offshoot of the Order of Nald'thal.
That Sharlyan guy (who people are saying is the twins's dad) could be pointing at the floating island area. That could be the key area before we go to the moon.
Reaper stole the show a little bit from Sage. Then male Viera told Reaper to hold his ale. I'm having a hard time debating if I want to stay MNK/SAM or go REP(RPR?). Been wanting a cool gothic style class for a while, seems almost every expansion I end up changing jobs for some strange reason but end up going back to MNK at some point. I'm kind of hoping Reaper sticks because maiming gear is always the best looking next to tank.

The Reaper familiar in the showcase trailer and in the art seems to just be chilling with/Embracing the WoL. My little pet theory is that this is a reflection of us from the 13th shard. Maybe they couldn't fully rejoin themselves but still want to keep fighting for the salvation of the world so they teamed up with us? I like them! They're nice!

Labyrinthos as an underground zone with Sharlayan-style architecture makes me think that it's actually a homeland version of the Antitower: a research colony established deep in the earth to study the Aetherial Sea and Hydaelyn. In that sense, the reason we go there would be as a stopping point on the way to Hydaelyn herself.
As for Zenos... I have a feeling that the way Yoshi-P and Koji mentioned that he had Job-changed to Reaper means that he must have an avatar of his own. Does he absorb Fandaniel to use him as a 4Reaper avatar?
According to Gematsu:
I'm not sure if they got some special press brief from SE that mentioned that about Labyrinthos or if it's just another case of media sites making stuff up.Quote:
Labyrinthos is an artificial training ground that’s quite unlike anything the Warriors of Light have seen before.
That sentence is straight from Square Enix themselves.
On topic, I haven't finished a playthrough of FF4, but there were certainly a lot of callbacks to that entry. That game also had a blue tower on the moon, didn't it? What was it used for there (speculating in case its another intentional callback)?
I feel like Reaper starting in Ul'dah is specifically so the Order of Nald'thal can get on their case (At least temporarily) because as far as I'm aware, they're the only ones who have the okay to partake in sanctioned voidsent summoning and the practice is otherwise strictly forbidden.
I'm also curious as to when we'll get the lore blurb for the job to know where it originates from and what its purpose is.
Off the top of my head, so take this with a grain of salt...
The palace on the moon was a combination of several different functions. It served as a place to hold the Moon's Crystals—crystals in that game are essentially a repository of knowledge, history, and wisdom. It was also the resting place of the Lunarians, who entered a state of hibernation in the hopes of waking up to the day when humanity were their equals.
Furthermore, it was the entrance to the Lunar Subterrane, a massive underground cavern surrounding the Moon's core... basically, the Moon was actually a Moon-sized dyson sphere/spaceship, so to speak, and in that game's ending the Red Moon actually breaks away from the Blue Planet's orbit to travel into deep space for... uh, some reason. And finally, the Lunar Subterrane was also where Zemus was imprisoned in order to keep him from attacking the Blue Planet and trying to exterminate humanity.
Not entirely unexpected but there will be a continuation of the Nier quests in the next patch. To provide an epilogue to the story.
Penelo (aiming) and Basch (tank) glamour from Bozja. They didn't show the others armor types.
BALTHIER HOVERBIKE MOUNT
Also Belias and Shemhazai were shown as critical engagement fights which implies the IVth has some more auracite.
Looked like Penelo's recoloured green is the Striking set and a recolour of Basch's for maiming, It looks like Al-Cid Magrace's clothes for Black Mage (Better come with some chest hair).
Also Vritra (Sp?) is the youngest of the first brood.
I don't even pay guitar, but that FFXIV Fender is gorgeous, now I wanna learn to play guitar.
Ishikawa-san what do you mean by "say goodbye"? We talkin' retirement? DEATH!?!?!
The Scions came together mostly to deal with the primal and Ascian issues, so I'd assume with those being resolved at the end of 6.0 they might decide to go their separate ways.
I still expect they'll probably be involved in the 6.x raid stories, though. We need somebody to drive the exposition for our mute selves, after all.
I'd expect it to be a combination of retirement, parting ways and character death.
Although it isn't the finale of the story overall, it's the finale for many of the key plot threads from the days of 1.0, 2.0 and beyond. Furthermore, it's also supposed to be a return of the literal apocalypse and the destruction wrought appears to be global.
If we end up going to the lifestream and/or underworld, I could see it also referring to a second chance to meet and interact with deceased characters for a final time to say goodbye. If they take that route, hopefully it's a broad mix and includes the likes of Yotsuyu and Regula in addition to the likes of Haurchefant.
I'm hoping that it'll be a hierarchy-shift, myself. We've got Hoary, Ochre, Coultenet, Aenor, Riol, etc. hanging around as the "JV Squad". What if we let our main roster retire and let them shine? Let them struggle and grow and learned about them for a while, all while we recruited a third tier to replace their "stand around and say neat stuff" positions and make it feel like our purpose was growing and evolving as we accomplished our main purpose and re-branded for whatever we'll be in 6.1+
That said, I don't expect 100% survival rate, either. We're constantly told that the odds are against us, that we're suffering losses, that the cost is such a burden to our conscience and spirit, and yet we preserve and push on. Sometimes that has to manifest in the story as actual, tangible losses or I personally start to feel like nothing's really at stake. You can't always tell and never show.
Also the OP might get wiggy as I add the Q&A stuff to it.
Retiring or sidelining some seems way more likely to me. Hasn't Ishikawa said before she doesn't like killing characters when it's just for the sake of shock value?
This is all correct. Few things I'll add.
The Crystal Palace/Lunar Lair/Mansion of the Moon People acts as a protective housing for the teleporter to the moon's core. The moon's core also houses sealed weapons that are exceptionally harmful to Lunarians, namely the Ragnarok, Holy Lance, Masamune, and Murasame. In the events of FFIV, Zemus has mind controlled exceptionally powerful monsters, such as Dark Bahamut and Lunar Leviathan(Ogopogo) to guard these weapons. He's also riddled it with monsters.
It's also connected via a dimensional elevator to the Tower of Bab-il on Earth, which can directly teleport anyone from the Earth to the Lunar Core. It's not explained so well in the game imo, but the Giant of Bab-il also resides in the Lunar Core, sealed alongside Zemus. The main reason Golbez needed the crystals of the earth was to open the dimensional elevator to teleport the giant down.
Seeing the Amaurotine memory/concept crystals in Mare Lamentorium's crystal palace type place feels like a perfect tie in/reference without departing from FFXIV's world. I love it already.
Edit: Oh yeah, the reason the Red Moon leaves is because FuSoYa decides that the Lunarians would rather not risk endangering humanity again, just in case.
I do think about what everyone would be doing on retirement and it brings a smile to my face.
-Alphinaud I think would end his character arc where it began maybe him working his way to changing Sharlayan from within and fulfilling Louisoix's dreams in that way
-Alisaie could resume where she left off after Coils travelling the world as a beacon of Hope. Eorzea's new "Sword in the Darkness"
-Estinien could Chill with the first brood till the end of his days
-Y'shtola is setup find a way back to the first and explore the truths of that world
-Urianger pegs me as the kind of guy who would educate future generations (or maybe hide away in some hole)
-and hell what if Thancred truly does become a bard and sings tales of his adventures beside the WoL and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn!
*this is all assuming none of em' bite the moon dust*
Yes, please. I like Riol.
Although I started in Gridania, Vylbrand was my favourite of the ARR regions. I'm probably biased since I grew up next to the ocean, though. (Albeit one blessed by far colder weather...)
Riol always stood out to me whenever he showed up and although I can't begin to recall how often he has made an appearance, I want to say it's been a decent amount over the years but only ever in a fairly minor capacity. It'd be good to see him get the opportunity to step up properly.
