Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

I am hopeful for the May liveletter. EW is a long ways off, but I'd be satisfied with some concept art at the least.

I am also hopeful for the LL in May but at the same time....I expect nothing at all. I have a fantasia sitting in my saddlebag atm just waiting to switch back to Au Ra if nothing comes then either. I adore my viera but it has just turned sour how SE doesn't give us ANYTHING, not even a hint to us getting more hairstyles. I am not to fuzzed about hats (and there are mods for that now anyway) but I would love some more hairstyles. People in this and other threads that whine about viera and hrothgar players complaining honestly just need to make their own thread where they can complain about us bringing up the topic.

I legit remember many a thread of people convincing themselves that the pale clan "should be shorter" cause of some bs comparison going around with misleading information back in the day and many people whine to this day about the lack of bunny tails.

And that's perfectly fine, SE should have realized that above all else most people wanted to play dress up with pretty animal eared women over having a 1:1 version of Fran if it meant the race could be "normal" and I don't see a world where an alt bunny race doesn't become hella popular.

(And I actually supported Viera getting into this game since before HW (was super bummed at the Draggo reveal), actively posting here in support of getting them in. Fran was the only non-human FF character I knew at the time and I knew the race was black coded, so they would make great tall black women. The legit only reason I don't play one isn't because of the head stuff, it's because they barely animate or show emotion and I don't personally like to play such reserved characters, so they're a let-down for me. I'm not throwing shade at all, people like pretty characters, and I'm no different. My taste is far wider than most, but I'm picky af about things like animation and hair types ... so I'm highly disappointed with the options in this game for a number of reasons)

*points above at my long history of actually supporting Veira to the point of shouting down people who wanted "beast races" because there's "no way SE would add them when that means remodeling all the headgear" ... that stance aged well.

My fascination with these races actually comes from a background in video games and animation. I like looking at the puzzle that is these messes and seeing how the devs think even if I feel 1 is a complete waste of an option because of stiff, lack luster animations.

And I have no clue how we're "talking in circles". The devs didn't go "Opps, forgot to make hat hair models ... welp, no hats!", they didn't make hat hair models because they made the race with no intention of giving them hats. If you can look at how it's technically possible and easy to have hats show up on Viera and come up with a reason other than "They think "let it clip" isn't acceptable for hats and most all helms" then feel free to say what that theory is ... cause there's really no real reason that I see other they don't think it's acceptable.

BunniEclair has repeatedly stated they personally don't care all that much about hats but you keep bringing it up to the point it's going in circles.

Headgear is part of the discussion of course, but it's a drop in the bucket of the other issues the races have.

I just want male buns lol. Gender locks are bs.

If I were picking between male and female unlocks and actual hairstyle + headgear support, I'm going for the latter. Ironically, I think that might be the harder of the two.

The point of a megathread is to be a hub to discuss all of the things the other threads that keep popping up are addressing, with the thought that instead of making more threads they can just come here. To one big...megathread. There aren’t any other major threads discussing the current state of viera and hrothgar. Only two other major threads discussing male viera and female hrothgar specifically. The rest are passing gripe threads - usually triggered by something specific like the 2B hair or the Valentione event. Hope this helps!

It's always amusing when miqo players tell others off for wanting more customisation options for a race that has animal ears.

Female hrothgar must be added. Male viera fans can bug off. I need fluff but I'm straight.

On the contrary, while they haven't said yes. All of Yoshi-P's interviews about the subject have been "I can't say yes but I don't want to say no. They're very hard to implement but if we can overcome the challenge we'd like to do it."

It's a fuzzy non-answer but it's closer to a "we'll have them... eventually...", discussions about THAT probably belong on the Male Viera thread.

Yeah, we’ll get the missing genders. Not this expansion but probably at some point in the future.

I honestly think the reason Viera and Hrothgar have not seen any new hairstyles is probably cause the team that does that has been working on making Male Viera and Female Hrothgar for 6.0. Then when they add hairstyles for those races they can do both genders at the same time and not have to go back later when they eventually add the genders down the road.

Twelve above I hope so. They have my permission to skip over male viera and just do femhroth. It'll save them time and resources on a race that actually matters.

Honestly, more hair and headgear options would be a great 'bonus' but personally I just want Hrothgar to stop walking hunched. The thousands of Hrothgar going with the Ludwig Von Koopa hair don't bother me nowhere near as much as everyone being hunched for no reason.

This is the reason I stopped playing a Hrothgar. I happen to change to warrior one day and the axe on my back looked like it would fall forward in an instant. Gunblades and Polearms float like 2 feet away from your back as well.

The hunch is a non issue for me, but that probably comes from playing WoW for so long. But I wouldn't complain if the option to run around straight backed was available. More options is never a bad thing when it comes to character creation.

Is backwards logic. Saying "I don't care about hats that much ... buuut they wouldn't need to do xyz or 4 extra models to get them to work because I think clipping is fine" doesn't cover up that you're basically saying the result is the cause. "Take the L" is good practice.

The fact is there has been nothing or if there has been any sort of reference its been "Its in the works." or "more info coming" With no follow up to what exactly is being done. as we have all stated we aren't looking for miracles. We just want information that has been with held or passed over or glazed over in hopes we wouldn't notice.

At this point is just ridiculous stalling. If promises are not going to be followed through with and we are going to have only 8 hair- excuse me hairs styles with a Bangs and No bangs variant with one additional "armor hair" then just say it. If the Hrothgar are only going to have what it is 3 faces? and no more are coming as promised. Then tell us.

Its not so much that we are mad or "whining" over the fact that we aren't getting new things. Its the fact we aren't getting what was originally promised and were given what is essentially a Beta run of a race. Even the core base races had more hair styles and customizations when starting out in 2.0...i might dare even say 1.0 when a planter had the same amount of polygons as your player character!

(Warning this is where I NOW rant about hair cause I CAN!!)
For a cookie cutter game - you can at least go a few teleports without seeing a Lalafell or Elezen or Miqote that looks alike. You can't go two yalms without finding 3 or 5 or 12 of the same looking Viera. And of those 8 hair styles- if we are honest only like 2 of them are descent looking so you have 2 hairstyles both one with bangs one with out bangs for Viera. While no one is 100% original looking in this game, it's even more so disparaging for Rabbits. Though at least we don't have to fantasia our faces to hair swap like our poor Hrothdaddy counters.

Same, I don't really mind it, but would like to stand straight too if given the option. That said, I have a hunch (:D) that once a race is created their design is set in stone, or else they would've fixed Elezen years ago.

I'm kinda wondering, is it big enough news to cover at a Fan Fest?

Normally I guess it wouldn't be but this one's different from other years and with how long it's been.. maybe?

If it happens to be an addition to Endwalker then it could be announced there. If it is something along the lines of "we are looking into it, please be patient" then that would probably be said during a Live Letter during Fanfest. Or they could just ignore it entirely like they have been.

It should be! After so long of these races being left out, they deserve - need - something shown then. Still, last chance I give them is leading up to, and the actual expac's launch. I'll be.. quite annoyed if there is nothing, I think many here would/will be.

That’s what I was wondering. Maybe not in the keynote but at one of the other panels? It’s also possible that they may say something in the 5.55 LL taking place that weekend as well. Generally these sort of things don’t get a lot of attention but this might be an exception. Especially if they finally address hroth’s fantasia issue which feels like a pretty big deal.

If nothing else we may want to be on the lookout for NPCs donning new hair and such. That’s usually how they tease that sort of thing.

That datamined side ponytail really has me wavering. I didn't even like it that much at first but the more I see it the more I want it :(

They never said never. They said *not right now* and that they would determine if it happened the future according to player feedback. Well, a lot of the feedback has said release the genderlocks.
