Fewer house owners and potential house owners care about gardening than you think. Most are just looking for a piece of the game world they can consider theirs and can decorate as they want.

This. ^ No one is forcing anyone to camp for 24 hours straight, people do it because they think they have to. It's not hard to do research on the average times plots pop for purchase (there are multiple discords that can help you with that) and focus your attempts at grabbing the plot at prime hours. That way you don't have to waste your entire day and feel burnt out after, you can just use a couple hours of your time instead. I've seen people show up for an hour and walk away with it.

After I camped the first time for 14ish hours, I decided that was a waste of my time and looked into whether or not there were any ways to make my life easier. Turns out there are and that's how I got my houses without putting myself through unnecessary pain.

Just to be clear, I don't advocate that at all. I'm not trying to remove anything that people have now.

What I'm advocating is additional instanced housing that includes garden plots. Something along the line of condominiums in the US, or row housing with a backyard.

As I said before, I understand the cultural differences. I was born in Japan, but raised in the US. Basically, in Japan, they are trying to preserve resources for future generations. I think they're right for doing so, but I also recognize that won't work in the US for a variety of reasons.

Modelling Japanese values for resource conservation makes no sense in a video game. Video games are all about indulging fantasies.

Someone earlier mentioned that SE is also bound to server hardware that they trust, which I can't fault them for (although it reminds me of IBM's fate, which I watched in the US since my Dad worked there) and that these servers can't handle instanced housing for some reason.

It's not clear to me why they can handle apartments without gardening, but can't handle them with gardening. But if that is a real issue, maybe it would be a good opportunity to test another server provider.

It definitely is a game mechanic put in place by SE. That's the whole point, isn't it? To make it so anyone can get a plot if they have the money and DETERMINATION(read willingness to camp)to get it. How can you say it's not intentional when it's the only way? No one in their right mind could expect a player to get to a plot, see there is someone already there, and say to themselves , "Well, he was here first, guess I'll go away."

That would require the naivety of a child. It's clearly functioning as intended. And it would work fine if they updated the requirements, but it's like a half-finished project that was abandoned with the way it is now.

It could be great, if only they just tweaked it a bit!

It's not a mechanic, you can easily come check out the plot, hit it twice and then leave and try again later. Where does it say you have to stand there all day and camp? It doesn't, some just think they have to because of the hope that it will pop right away and that's how you waste your time and day.

I've seen plenty of people show up and leave only to come back hours later. That's literally how I lost my first plot.

Because game mechanics are intentionally put into the game. The placard system (i.e. buying from the placard in general) is the system and mechanic. Camping for hours on end is an effect of that system, not an intentional mechanic. Like I said, people for some reason think the plot is gonna right away and dont bother to look into the devaluation timer (which can tell you how long a plot has been available for) and average pop times (usually between 8-10 hours after plot first pops). You can literally write down the plot number, go about your day, check on it every couple hours and closer to prime hours go back and do your camping.

Hearing people say you don't HAVE to camp for a house to me sounds the same as people saying you don't HAVE to do mechanics to beat a current content primal ex.

Like, ok but, you'll never beat it unless you do. And other players can't carry you to get a plot. It's just you against the world.

Again, if you did research you'd know the chances of it popping before the 8 hour mark are extremely slim. Like, extremely.

And again, you are choosing to take that chance in hoping for it to pop early, no one is forcing you to do so. You feeling some need to stand there all day is your own choice. Like I said, you can keep an eye on the plot and go back and visit it whenever you want so you can still be productive with your own day and avoid burning yourself out. It's not a hard concept. The only person making you stand there all day endlessly clicking is yourself. I gave you legit advice that homeowners use to make camping easier. Up to you to take it or continue using the time you have every day to stand at a placard. I can think of better things to do with mine while keeping an eye on a plot I'm interested in.

So while buying through the placard is unavoidable, standing there all day is completely avoidable. You can easily walk away and come back later and get the plot. It's done all the time.

So, where can I find out how long a plot has been open after it's demo'ed or abandoned?

Cause if I can't find that out after finding an open plot then how do I know if it's been 2 hours or 8??? :O

There are discords with people who can help you determine an estimation based off the devaluation timer and how much the plot currently costs. There are discords where people post plots that have popped and their times across all servers. I've said this already. I literally belonged to 4 at one point.

How I got one of my plots i just checked every hour I was on gave it a few clicks and left. Sooner or later I got my plot. Never camped for any plot and have many over the years.

Sounds like camping. If you're dedicating yourself to multiple discords and sleuthing for any information you can get on houses it still counts as camping, if in a different way.

The hole I see is that no matter how you dress it up if you are using a substantial amount of time to get a plot, whether through the frustrating, but far more certain method of placard sitting for hours or hunting through discords and chats for times and estimates and tipoffs, counting on the good graces of others who are likely after the exact same thing as you (commendable if it works for you and not against you), it still requires a great deal of effort and luck.

And you have no choice. That's the only way it can be done. That's housing mechanics.

And? How many others were hunting the same plot? A single competitor who is willing to do that "unnecessary camping thing" guarantees your failure.

Sure, some people win the lottery by just casually snagging an open plot, but the odds are not in your favor.

It's laughable to suggest this method when players are openly using click macros to help. Indeed, if you've played for years then odds are you'll get lucky at some point, but wow, what a terrible way to try for a house in the near future.

How is what I did camping? I just check when I was already playing the game. I did not log in just to see if the house was open or anything. Even if I saw people I would get my clicks and move on. By mechanic we mean SE intended for people to stay up for 14 hours clicking, I highly doubt that was their intent but sadly they really do not understand western MMO players all that well.

I have won a plot with other present it is not a matter of how many clicks the only click that matters Is the one that gets the plot. If people want to camp go for it but to say it is intended to camp for hours does not seem true. It may foster that mindset due to the timers and limits but meh that is a player choice.

God forbid you have to put in effort to get things in life and any activity you participate in. You're looking for a hand out/no effort way to get what you want and that's just pure laziness at that point.

That was to Liana. I see you made a point in saying that you did not camp, just winged it and got lucky. Personally, I would not rely on luck with the way things are now.

I say it's a mechanic due to the fact that SE has NOT changed it nor do they seem to have any PLAN to change it. It's working as SE intended by all available evidence with no effective alternative to have the best odds of getting a house amongst any competition at all.

The only argument that it is not a mechanic is that nobody is holding a gun to your head to make you do it, which is no argument at all.

To suggest that SE didn't see this coming is to suggest that SE is composed of window-licking moonpies, possible but not probable. To suggest that SE STILL doesn't understand the result which is why that haven't done anything is to be completely blind to the truth.

Just because has not changed it does not mean they do not have a desire to do so. They have limitations to work around and maybe in there eyes this is the best way with the tools they have. They have already said a few times forgot when that they are not happy with the current system and are looking into ways to make it better.

Lack of change does not support the notion of intent inherently. I get you feel camping is the only way but it really is not.

It is the best way if you want a plot in that moment. Though that is still a personal choice. They miss likely lifted the restrictions due to limitations within the game. Cause for a brief moment that is how it worked but it appears people were having issues if anyone in the FC was in an FC on another character with a house.

I personally not buying any story like they want house because they want to decorate and gardening when 80% of houses are barely decorated and no garden plot, so people can stop to use that excuse.
The only changes this game need to make house ward alive is to simply remove repair NPC in major cities and only let small town has repair NPC.
This will force people to use apartment/house more actively because they are able to hire a retainer repair.
This changes not only able to get rid the crying of they didn't receive demolition notification (mostly fat lie) or camping (the number house that demolished will increase), it also starts to make people use housing ward more actively and less stress on each city (especially limsa)

Just make it so every plot can have hundreds of owners (instanced) You select the house you want to see there (and enter) via the placard, which shows a list with thumbnails.
Less desirable plots would have their prices lowered as needed to get more population in those areas.
Eliminate multiple wards (no need) With everyone in one "ward". the population in the streets would be much greater, making the housing areas seem less deserted.

This...THIS would be a great solution within the confines of the current system. I had hoped that they would do something like this with Ishgard housing. Keeping multiple wards, though not necessarily all of them, might help alleviate some server congestion though.

Make apartments with purchasable add on rooms - 300,000 gets you the current, 1,700,000 gets you down stairs, 8,000,000 gets you upstairs, 2,000,000 gets you an instanced garden.

(Or just do what other games allow and make a fully instanced housing system with the lot, available on mogstation)

It's pointless to try and argue against the very thing that quite a few people have admitted to doing in the first place, both before and after the changes.

God forbid you to criticize a clearly subpar system implementation, and god forbid you to criticize the unnecessary effort and leaps that people are required to go through in order to just simply get a house. It's hardly about effort. The fact the very system has on several occasions attracted means of botting and auto-clicking in order to get a house says something very substantial about it. Of any given approach they went with to solve people buying and selling houses between players they went with the absolutely worst possible implementation. Don't try and fabricate a narrative that people expect everything handed to them when there's clear issues with the system.

I'm sorry if I'm not in agreement on points but I'm just speaking on the reality of what we have and the potential of what will happen if they choose to not change anything.

The benefit of the ward is to be able to see the individual outside decorations just by passing through. If you're going to make it like your idea, then might as well remove the ward and choose your house from an NPC.

How many players bother to take the time to do that much as opposed to just porting directly to their house or their friend's house and ignoring the rest of the ward?

You don't have to have a ward setting to see what other players have done with their house. Other MMOs with housing have a variety of way for you to find and visit other player's properties (assuming they had enabled guest access). I used to go randomly cruising around RIFT Dimensions to see what other players had done and get ideas for my own and that was 100% instanced.

I said that in order to solve the issue they went with the worst possible implementation. I never even remotely implied the default system was fine or even better. Hence why it was addressed in the first place; it was obviously unfit for the direction the game was going. Why add a randomized hidden timer in the first place? A fixed visible timer of one hour would've achieved the same goal without people resorting to using an auto-clicker en masse. The issue here is you implied someone is asking for what is essentially a freebie system without requiring any effort which is false, and just a narrative you tried painting on it- There's no universe where an acceptable housing system should encourage the use of discord, autoclickers, or sat around for several hours before getting a house. It isn't even remotely healthy, and before someone comes out and cries the game doesn't require you to sit around and camp it, I said it encourages that behavior- As it is the most efficient option.

I never said it wasn't, nor did I even imply it, I simply said people are botting and autoclicking the placard to try and get a house- You know something that otherwise shouldn't exist in a perfectly reasonable system, at least to this gravity. It's 1 thing that people would bot getting Gil, but the simple fact they're botting the placard too says plenty of the broken system.

I never said the system was perfect or that it should be the permanent solution, I said that I'm speaking on the reality of what we have now and the potential of what we'll have in the future if nothing is changed. Because, the harsh reality is, this system is probably not changing and the farms we're getting are the compromise for that.

And again, it was said that this system was too much effort in which myself and others also gave alternatives to avoid having to sit and camp all day. Those were basically ignored. I feel like you didn't read all of my posts and are fixating on one just because you didnt like the language used.

I'm glad that I can agree on that much; that the system is far from perfect or should be a permanent solution. Nor did I really imply that is what you were thinking in the first place.

This point links back to one of my original points "and god forbid you to criticize the unnecessary effort and leaps that people are required to go through in order to just simply get a house. It's hardly about effort. The fact the very system has on several occasions attracted means of botting and auto-clicking in order to get a house says something very substantial about it." - Using the in-game features it's a disgusting implementation and should not really require external sources like sitting in discord servers as compensation for an already extremely poor system. - With the community of discord servers and such largely helping to drive what is an inherently flawed system. So chalk it up to expecting everything handed down on a plate- But I will continue to chalk the entirety of it up to very poor in concept, and extremely poor in implementation.

Some of the suggestions were effectively akin to pretty much largely gimping your chances in getting a plot. If you aren't camping that plot, then your chance of getting the plot in the first place is pretty low. Especially on a highly populated server; luck-driven. as is the entirety of the system itself. This is an inherent flaw of the system. It should not incite, nor should it provoke players to sit and camp a plot, or play the click game for the entirety of the duration they're sat at the placard. Whether or not their intention was this or not is irrelevant, this is the result of a blatant ill-considered implementation.

Oh, you got the plot after sitting there for 20 minutes, whilst clicking fairly infrequently. Well done; you as everyone else who gets a house on this system have done so largely by virtue of luck.

I feel like we're having the same conversation over and over again. So I'm just going to point you to the last post I made as a response to this one. You've repeated your stance multiple times as have I. I don't see anything else productive coming from this conversation. You can have your opinion and I can have mine. It's perfectly fine to not agree or like mine just like it's perfectly fine for me to not agree with parts of yours or other people's. Repeating the same thing over and over to me isn't going to change my mind same as nothing I say will change yours. I personally don't have an issue with the system as much as other people and that's fine for me to view it like that. I'm a blunt person and direct so while I will apologize for the word choice I used, I also don't take back anything I've said in this thread either.
