100% this. If casting Holy three times is chat spam, then Every single person in Limsa should be reported for harassment. Do you know how many emotes get flooded into the chat log there? It's absolutely absurd.

HOLY doesn't appear in the chat log if you use default settings.
So unless there was a Macro, or he was doing it just to be annoying and was asked to stop...
I doubt it's simply he was using Holy and got reported for using Holy.
No sympathy. You tried on reddit and failed, so you wanna get people to make you feel better trying to be as annoying as possible?
It should've been a ban instead of a suspension.
I feel no sympathy. The only reason to stand around spamming holy in a town would be to annoy people with it. Being able to blacklist someone doesn't mean they shouldn't get a suspension for spamming you in whispers, turning off spell effects doesn't mean someone spamming like this to be annoying shouldn't be punished. Doing it once or twice is one thing, spamming is another.
honestly yes it does mean exacly that the system is for that very reason if you dont like x person you black list em and turn off spells ... so honestly yes it does mean they shouldn't get punished use the damn system if you dont want a person saying something to you black list it
I'm wondering if maybe we need to get rid of warnings and suspensions, do one thing wrong, permanently banned. And yes, I would retroactively apply it, meaning that 10 day forum suspension I got about 4 years ago, will automatically be escalated to a permanent ban. And apply it to both forums and the game. I wonder if that would stop trolls knowing that one false move and they're gone for good? And by retroactively applying it, you're setting examples that it will happen.
Do people think that would change anything, as brutal as it is? I'm on the fence about this idea, but I would like to court feedback (respectfully) to see if people think this would change anything.
I never pay enough attention to my chat log to notice these things. Huh. TIL.
God forbid players to have fun, because someone could find it offensive, report them and ban.
Bad performance on bard - ban
Spamming skills in town with someone for fun - ban
Crafting in city - ban
Writing emotes - ban
Beating someone with emotes - ban
Standing next to someone - ban
Writing "hahaha" in chat - ban
Be nice or ban, inhuman order to be hold in a virtual world because something is annoying to someone, no meanies allowed lol
I hope Tencent will take over SE and bring some common sense into the game.
Overexaggerating is current Terms of Service thats is completely absurd and out of place.
They could ban you virtually for everything according to it, the person writing a report just need to come up with good reason in the report and boom you get suspended.
Today its spamming holy, tommorow it could be a crafting, because why not?
No, it doesn't mean that. Having that be the end all solution suggests that there isnt consequences for being an @sshat.
The solution shouldn't solely consist of OTHER people taking steps to avoid being annoyed by one individual/individuals that dont have enough impulse control from being annoying in the first place.
Lmao what? When is a good reason to ban not a good reason to ban? Comeon where's the common sense here? Am I missing something?
Commons sense dictates that when you are intentionally doing it to annoy someone, you will get punished. :)
And people wonder why people get reported? There's always more to the story and the way this person acts is why you always ask for the full story before jumping to conclusions. Who want's to put money down that when someone asks this person to stop spamming they will spam even more?
Spamming holy in town isn't fun for people who don't want to see or hear it nonstop tho. You having fun shouldn't be at the cost of other people. If having fun is trolling and bing a dick then yes that should be punishable. I mean do you go out and scream in random department stores to have fun? If you did you'll be asked to stop and if you didn't you'll be removed. so why should it be any different ingame? It's like people forgot how to be a decent human being nowdays. :c
There is no common sense, you are not going to find one when it comes to the ToS in this game.
Please have a read on it

So is crafting right? It makes really annoying sound around and flashes, you could take it to extreme levels and ask someone to stop crafting, if he wont then you could report him and say it triggers you seizure and the guy did not stop when asked, he will get banned or warned i could bet 10$ on it.
Does not matter, it is annoying same as someone using emotes.
The ToS is on the side of a reporter, you could make up soooo many situations in which you could get someone ban for doing something, you just need to do it smart.
Current ToS is absurd and easily abused.
You seem to think there is one defination of annoying while sorry to break your little fantasy bubble life but it doesn't. What is called annoying is fully determined by a single persons view points or personality in which case if you the invidual find something annoying then MOVE TO A DIFFRENT SPOT OR BLACKLIST don't be a little snitch. I sware people who believe what you said really has no right to be on the internet at all.
Serves him right for spamming :)
No spam no ban :)
Then let's break it down, because that's another assumption.
The information presented by the log:
- The player in question was SUSPENDED, not banned.
- The player in question was told by the GMing the issue was they were spamming
- The player in question established that they were spamming holy
- The player in question admitted to having a previous strike
That's ALL we know.
Let's consider some possibilities:
- The player was emote & skill spamming RPers whilst they were RPing. This is quite a common tactic by trolls
- The player was target specific people to harass and obnoxiously spam with their behaviour, possibly following them to do it, or doing in the space they were trying to do stuff
- It could be that there behaviours that were compounded as part of them being reported for spamming
- Their first strike could have been for similar trollish behaviour
- Any of the above and the people affected possibly asked multiple times for them to stop, but the OP chose to persist
- And other things I've probably not considered
Was it this dictatorship and GM abuse of power that people seem to decry it to be? I think of the "get to the gulag" rant I saw in another thread where I commonly did all the thing he said we'd get banned for. And for this thread here, if the case, we'd see it a lot more prevalent.
With regards to 'proof' we are not privy to any of the 'proof' in this situation, you're seemingly just assuming only weak evidence is all that's needed. For all we know there could have been an admission of guilt, because I have seen trolls do exactly that because they're cocky nothing will happen.
So what do I think is likely? My years of having worked customer complaints and years of being an FC leader and dealing with cases of drama llama, there's a few problems that are easy to spot when somebody comes by to publicise a problem.
1) The 'evidence' they provide either puts them in favour or somebody else in a bad light (or both)
2) They present it in a manner that favours how they want you to see it.
3) They omit information that could turn the whole situation on its head. So whilst everything you've been presented, could still be accurate, but in the way of tabloid journalism, what's been omitted could tell an entirely different story.
4) They don't show or tell you the whole picture
In customer complaints, I had the liberty of being able to gather evidence, particularly in listening to the calls they're complaining about.
As an FC leader, I can approach the party and get their side of the story and if they followed my golden rule, they'd have logged /everything/.
In this situation here? I doubt even if we got a hold of the GM in question of if they read this thread they'd be at liberty to disclose more info about a complaint because they may not be allowed to discuss actions taken against players aside from to the player in question. And possible there's legal issues for somebody representing a company to do that too (like GDPR or Data Protection).
My option then? Take it with a pinch of salt. Accept it's possible that it's a fair representation, but also accept that it could be totally wrong. When the other party is not there to defend their side, I find it wholly unfair to simply take the one side we know.
Be careful bard performers. I love you, but judging by this you might not be safe :(
That is the most irrelevant word salad that I have read here in a while. There are NOT multiple definitions of annoying. You either are or you aren't. And OUR definitions of annoying dont mean one thing as SE determines what is and isnt...and they obviously determined this was.
If people were asking them to stop and they continued or they were doing it excessively for an extended period of time for no other reason than to be annoying, no, I'm not moving. I'm not going to blacklist you as if that has anything to do with the visual effects and audio sounds, and sure as hell am NOT going into MY settings to turn off spell effects cause someone is being a jerk.
But that person WILL eventually stop being annoying when they are reported. That is what the system is for. No one cares about the snitch BS. Since no one can grab the offender through the internet and make them stop, this is the tool to use for disruptive behavior. And no doubt, this did not occur from one report and willing to bet it was multiple people complaining.
TLDR: Dont be a jerk and you'll be fine.
lol I love how you people simplefy everything like "jerk" is the only ones who get in trouble with a system like that hell most of the time I'm nice to people however if someone asked me to stop x thing I would be like to them 1 line only be like well why won't you move some were else this map is large you don't like it you can go elsewere. Also I've gotton in trouble many times over simple jokes and talking about subjects i rather enjoy which in those topics noone was insulted or anything it was just talking about for example axel x roxas or my opinion why human experimention should be legal and all that fun stuff all of which was never being a "jerk" in how you put it.
Also yes there are many and it does effect it I don't find anything annoying unless u basicly stalk the person doing it every where they move to
Fury take me! The mental gymnasts and whataboutists in here trying to justify being a nuisance...
SE tends to dole out punishment on an escalation system. Past offenses can cause future offenses to incur a harsher punishment than one might think is necessary. This dude getting a three day ban “just” for spamming means he either has a history or he pissed off a lot of people with his antics.
Don't give me ideas...I'll be the Crumplebottom of my server.
"Stop that ! I'll have you banned !"

How dare they enforce their ToS! This would never happen in another mmo! True enough. That is why I am here.
