My very first character was a hyur highlander and I honestly got bored of seeing him after a while. Maybe its because you "expect" a character looking like that to be able to perform crazy feats of valor but I get a lot more enjoyment out of seeing my lalafell swing a sword at squirrels larger than him.

Sometimes, the cute option is just more fun. *shrug*

Voting no on Viera; they're too much like miqo'te already and I'd imagine they'd essentially be the same model, but slightly taller and with bunny ears and tails instead. I'd prefer a draconian race or something else less humanoid so we can get a little variety, as even roegadyn just look like "prettier" galkas.

This thread reminds me of why I don't have much to do with the fan base if I can help it, starting back from where I heard the same complaints in FFxi. We already have option to choose from five races as it is and soon we'll have option to chose from the male/female versions from all of them... that's ten possible choices right off the bat (more than most other MMO) and that's still not good enough for you?

Considering how suspicious I am of deals like this I would say "No thanks."

And if they do add these newer race options I'm more concerned about wether we'll get an option to re-customize an existing character. This is something I'm sure a bunch of other players are concerned about as well.

I'd rather see a variation or addition of something already in the game than bringing in a completely new race.

Well, I honestly, really don't know how to start by saying my opinion on this matter, but this is what I would like to see added in the future:

For starters, I "think", and I might have to re-read the question from the poll again to double check, but going based off recent memory, I believe the poll was asking for races added to the game that weren't necessarily playable, but new beastmen types to be added instead to the game.

With that being said, concerning beastmen, as much as I would love to see new and lore-mentioned, yet to be seen beastmean (EX: Sahagin) I would rather they diverse the already existing species of ixali, Amalj'aa and Kobolds. I would even like them to add armored goblins and more variety of Qiqirn as well.

They all look identical and the only difference is:

A) A slightly different shade of color on their clothing (Kobolds)

B) A different weapon being used by some of the beastmen

C) Different names and levels

Other from that, they all look the same size, and are practically clones.

And I hate sounding like a badger about the beastmen in FF XIV, because in all honestly, I freaking love the beastmen in this game! I love them even more than the FF XI ones!

The amalj'aa are a really cool looking race with their own culture and primal god. The ixali have their own deep history about abusing their gifts to fly and the gods taking away their wings as punishment, resorting them to using balloons as a means of flying. Not to mention they're half bird half reptilian looking, which is a double win for me. And last but not least, the kobolds are completely original and very interesting with their history in La Noscea. They're jittery little creatures for a knack for building and collecting things out of precious ores and minerals, and they also live within the Volcano under O'Ghomoro and worship their god Titan from within.

If they added even one of these beastmen to the playable characters list, I would seriously jizz my $!@#ing pants dude.... No lie... Which is why we need more variety if that would ever occur. Even if it didn't, I seriously think there needs to be vastly diverse looking members of each tribe to give the world and its beastmen more flavor and character to each and every one of them. The FF XIV has some of the best concept artist I've ever seen, I know they can pull it off with flying colors.

I would also, absolutely love to be able to play as either a goblin, a little silly Qiqrn warrior/theif, or a Moogle, since they've already been shown donning weapons and basic armor in the primal fight.

I have never played FF XII, so I can't hol an opinion on the Vierra, but they do look very attractive and cool, but I honestly rather see a new unique race in FF XIV that sets itself apart from the other games, and may even become a series staple from that point on.

With that being said, I really want to have a non-mammalian playable race, if they were to add any new species/races. Reptilian or bird-like, similar to the beastmen, but more in the form of man, perhaps? I don't know exactly yet. But I voted for more variety of beastmen, then adding new clone armies of beastmen.

That's my take on the topic. *shrugs* You can disagree or agree if you want, but I just felt like saying that.

This is supposed to be a fantasy game, I'd rather play something that's not as humanlike than something that is if given the option. After all, I want to be away from reality.

My experience with FF is limited to X plus, so I can't think of one where there was more than one animal race at a time. Pre X I have no idea.

If what Yoshida said about making content based in other FF game worlds becomes reality then you could see Ronso, or Viera and whatever others there were making sense as additions.

I will say I don't think they should add any more races till they add expansion areas that can have their own lore for those races. Adding that horned race from Grid would make sense because its a part of current lore, but adding Viera now would just seem out of place. Forget the empire now we're being invaded by Harvey's stepsisters....

Most games did have only one animal race in your party at a time, barring special circumstances (Moogle army from FFVI comes to mind). FFIX had two though, with Freya (Rat) and Quina (Frog thing, sorta, I guess). FFIX also wins if we count folks who never enter your party, as I recall there was quite a number of varied animal races that made up the various townsfolk. Though, if games outside the main numbered ones count, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 both allowed you go to battle with nothing but a moogle firing squad of death (Or I suppose you could go with viera, bangaa, seeq, or gria if you wanted the inferior races), barring main missions where you're forced to have the main character and potentially one or two other units in play.

Their non-existence gets a high rating on my FFXIV pros list.

I voted for more different clans for the current races to allow for more customization. I do like Viera's but I don't want Miqo'te AND Viera in the same game as playable race. I know if they did that, that every server will be mostly filled with Miqo'te and Viera. I'm already tired of seeing Miqo'te EVERYWHERE. And female elezens barely getting any love at all.

I mean we're already going to get female Roegadyn, Male Miqo'te and Female highlander. I really want people to actually play those races/genders as well. Instead of seeing a server population that will end up looking like.
40% Miqo'te
40% Viera
20% the other races

I'm switching to a female Roegadyn come 2.0 if they look anything like Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn.

But a Viera option might make me think twice about that decision.

While I voted for Mixed race (i'm black/white) , viera was 2nd place, it'd be tempting enough for me to change over (irl girl)

I think mixing of races is better.. imagine munchkin mithras, elvaans, galkas, and humes?! lol

Realistically, mix a Lalafell and Roegadyn and you get THESE running around...

mixed races should be instresting if they do them.

viera burmeician gria there all good.new races are good to.

the only relation most of them have is the humanoid appearances.

I asked for more options for the current races, since i felt that some of the options were a bit limited (not to mention not being able to look at the profile of my character drove me a little nuts.)

Cute bunnies, rough bunnies, cute lizards, usually doesnt matter to me, whatever people want but..

To the folks who are saying theres too many cute cats so don't add cute bunnies, add a lizard or a ____. I would mention even if you did have a rougher, darker "un-sexy" race i highly suspect it won't impack the feline population all that much. If someone wants cute'n'kitty it unlikely they will turn around and roll up on your new dark'n'scalie. If you really want to see less Miqo'te you might want to support Viera.

If you have 400 people who want to be cute, you could have 400 cats or say 200 cats and 200 bunnies.

But if your really dedicated to controling the feline and bunny population, remember to have your pets spayed or neutered.

I'd actually hoped Viera would be the replacement race for Mithra going from FFXI to FFXIV. Miqo'te are good in their own right, but I would have really loved being able to create a Viera. Having said that, I'm not sure the two can coexist within FFXIV... I personally voted for Viera, but I feel like most folks would rather see a beastman race like lizard/draconian. Here's hoping I'm wrong!

Banga would be better.

I like the race differences that Ivalice brought to the table, and would like to see more races in the game, both playable and as NPCs. :)

Both the Viera and the dragon type race sounds very exciting to me. :)

To the people who suggested banga: You're sick. Lol. We have Roegadyn to take the place of ugly, semi-monsterous race, thank you very much. I'd love to play as a Viera and I'm certain they can fit in very well in FFXIV's aesthetics far greater than an ugly, scaled freak. I know FF is full of ugly sclaed freaks but they would fit the bill as beast tribe kill-on-sight mobs not as playable characters. It would in some ways ruin the beauty of our playable races. This is all just an opinion but I'm sure there are many out there somewhere that agree.

I'd love to see Viera in the game actually.

1.) They're really awesome aesthetically speaking, good proportions, great mix of animal/human features, etc.

2.) I love their lore, being spiritual creatures who are sensitive to magical energy. Compared to Miqo'te (Mithra) who are mostly hunters/fighters in lore and more savage/physical in nature.

Also, please never introduce a one gender race again, especially in MMOs.

^ This. This is a P2P(should still remain F2P until 2.0- not like Square Enix can't afford to pay for their own renovations in my honest opinion) not a typical poorly made Korean f2p with gender locked races and classes. Also, to the person who posted male Viera picture: I love you.

as much as I love the Viera I think a darker/grittier/menacing race would be nice, something from an unknown land. A demon type with wings, horns, spiked tail. We have the bulky Galka, cutesy Lalas, generic hyrs, slender Eleze, and animal sexy/cute Miqs (which adding Viera seems pointless considering they're basically the same but tall with bunny ears). We need something that s set apart from the other races, even though the Viera would be nice to look at like the Miqs.
