just... deactivate that stupid touchpad mouse and just push the giant button in the middle of your controller to tab through the UI. Push it twice and you are at the loot and commendations.

I am playing on PS4 too and I always give a commendation, except when everyone in the party was just terrible.

Yeah, I do that often too. I usually play tank and give it to the healer or my co-tank in 8-man content as a little thank you, because they are the roles I interact with the most as a tank.

However, I also have no way to actually tell if a DD is going a good job. I can make out when he does terrible, but good? No idea...

But I can see when a tank or a healer does a good (or terrible) job, so they are the roles I can judge and give commendations on that judgement.

yes, I do know you can press it but it's still horrible, I do give commendations but only when people deserve it and that is rare, I always feel bad when premade parties give me all the comms and I did not give it to anyone.

If you are playing as a dps you have a less chance of getting a commendation.

In dungeon I usually comm the healer when I am tanking and comm the tank when I am healing. When I dps I comm the other dps unless the tank or healer does something that wows me. In 8 man content if I am the dps I comm the main tank or the healer who rezzed me. If I am a tank I comm the other tank or the healer who made the most impact.

Rarely do I comm another dps unless they are making a noticeable impact to the group.

Am I wrong for this? Maybe I am maybe I am not. However each individual who plays has their own decisions when commendating another player.

i have over 2800 comms over 4 years. mainly because i main a tank all of hw and some of sb. i am also a decent healer in dungeons and good dps. if you good at your job you get comms

Why the caps lock? Since when has full caps lock posts ever made a impact, on anything.

The com system could do with a overall but i feel your rant and demanding of coms might be the bigger issue.

To me i feel like you should have the ability to com anyone you didn't que in with. So you can com multiple people especially in 8 mans or 24 mans it would be nice. heck I have seen healers save entire 24 man runs by rezzing another teams healer and i can't com that person. Or I get dungeon runs where everyone did well and i could only pick one?

It would be nice if they updated the system but throwing a tantrum of 'its broken cause i don't get coms' is not the reason its broken. That sounds more like a you issue.

There is time when you take those 3 commendation by barely doing healer 101, those time when as a DpS you get commendation well earn because you're one of those bard who know about foe requiem (R.I.P my dear, you'll be missed like my flamming arrow), there is time when you don't get any, sometime you award your team mate for their effort, sometime for their presence and there is those time like now when you would like to give a 1 out of 5 star review on your Eorzea-trip app to OP.

Be the teammate you would commend, then maybe you’ll get more.

Other people in this thread have already gone over being nice in duties etc. and some have also brought up about knowing at least the basics of your job... and well, I can't speak for your conduct in dungeons (though I certainly hope that it's better than your forum posts), but a certain website shows several areas which I think you could improve on basic Bard play.

1. Song uptime. Currently all songs provide a crit buff to your party and since it's a buff, people will notice that if you don't cast songs
In AoE situations you would use Mage's Ballad first, because the DoT crits reset the Rain of Death cooldown time. In single target, you would start with Wanderer's Minuet.
2. Your songs need DoTs to function. In an AoE pull, try and DoT at least three mobs. Bosses should always have both DoTs on them, and you can refresh both of them using Iron Jaws rather than manually recasting. When these DoTs tick, they will proc each song's extra effect.
3. Your own personal damage buffs add up. Time Raging Strikes with Wanderer's Minuet cooldown, and also Barrage. Barrage should ideally be used on Refulgent Arrow whislt Raging Strikes is up, but if you don't get one, you can use it on Empyreal Arrow instead. Straight Shot should ALWAYS be up as it's a personal crit buff, so again it's giving you a higher chance for your DoTs to crit.
4. Use Sidewinder on cooldown, make sure the target has BOTH DoTs on it.
5. ABC - Always Be Casting. Ideally you always want to be hitting a skill to deal damage.

Overall there's a lot more things I could go through here but these are the most important things to keep in mind whilst playing Bard.

Other players in Duty Finder can tell when players are not doing much damage, even without using a certain tool - as an example I had an Expert roulette recently in the Burn where it took almost 30 minutes just to reach the 2nd boss. People get a feel for how long the average duty finder run takes, and if it starts to take longer then I think it's common that players will at least take a look at what party members are doing for a run to take so long.

I've gotten hundreds of comms just playing DPS. It's been slow because usually comms go to healers or tanks. The fact i got hundreds of comms playing DPS makes me feel good even if I don't get them all the time.

I guess I never really noticed.

I can say that the people who get comms from me tend to be female miqote or lalas with cute/unique names. I'm a sucker for a witty lala name.

I'm kinda like that.

For me it's

1. Those who actually say hello and interact
2. Cool gear or name
3. Someone doing something awesome

Just doing one's job isn't enough. I've also left dungeons giving no comms as well.

I do find as a healer, I get a comm about 80% of the time or so.

Just find some content that no one runs like guildhests and queue for that with 3 others not as a party but solo at the same time boom free coms .. the under the armor one can be killed in less the a min so get to farming you can have all 1000 you need in less then less then 6 hours if that is all you do and have 3 people tossing coms your way every time

you still have to make them at least feel like giving you coms. I've got a feeling there's another aspect of OP's playstyle we aren't hearing about.

if you want commendations, do dungeons as a healer or tank. if you are doing that already and not getting any, you aren't playing well.

I've got 2300 commendations so far as a DPS. Bard and BLM. OP is definitely doing something wrong.

i got 149 and been playing for like 3 weeks now as a bard just being nice will get you a long way :)

Well, there are a lot of ways to have a low number of comms after 4 years. Play lots of alts and your coms get divided up. Spend alot of time doing things that don't have coms, is another good one. I'm easily distracted and don't enjoy running the same dungeon over and over again, so it's normal with my play style to not have a ton of chances to get them, but I feel no urge to yell about it. Lol! The people with thousands of coms just look like bragging at this point though. ;)

If you are Tanking commend your healers.

If you are Healing commend your Tanks.

DPS you get nothing because DPS is a lazy Role that can only brag about Parsing.

I'm glad that not everybody feels this way. If they all did, I just wouldn't commend anybody.

What does the op actually want Square-Enix to do? There’s no update that will make people give him comms if they don’t feel he deserves them...

Yeah I have more than 700 comms mainly playing dps over 4 years on/off casual play (with several multi-month breaks), and that's just on one of my two characters. So idk what OP is doing or what they expect SE to do to "fix" commendations.

I hope this is a troll post. Also people aren't always going to tell you you did a good job.

I got AST to 60 and got 300 coms that way. It's not hard if you dont suck...

don't play a dps and you will get commends duh simple solution.

I've found it to be extremely fair.
1) I always check after a duty because, eh, I do, lol.
I find the vast majority of the time, the results reflect my play.
Like, I had a bad Trial today and got 0 Commendations out of 7.
I also had one where I totally was on it awesome style and got 5 out of 7.

2) Healers and Tanks tend to get more. You can be awesome at maxing your DPS and taking little damage, but you'll never get the same level of attention. I don't mind that.

3) This topic is pretty trash isn't it?

I think I did something wrong again yesterday.

Taking a look at every post on the front page of this thread.... can I assume you want the forum 'Likes' to go away too?

I've been on a long break from the game and when I came back I decided to create a new character (mainly because of getting rid of stuff on my main that I thought I'd never play again... Lesson learnt!) Anyway, I've been back for about 2 weeks, maybe coming up to 3 weeks and I've already accumulated over 100 commendations. Sometimes I get commendations when I don't think I've played all that well, or I've thought someone else has shined more than me. Like, the other day I was in CM and there was this really cute Lala tank that kept thanking everyone that used the cannons. He was the nicest tank I've come across that I thought he deserved the commendations (I certainly gave him one) but I ended up getting around 3-4 myself which surprised me!

Honestly just make a male roe and glam the bunny outfit. That is like comm gold.

I like to tease the lala, as annoyed as they say they are about it when you start listing the different potato dished you could make with their corpse if they die sure gets them giggling. A good, but nice, tease and just being nice overall gets lots of comms.

That and not sucking.
