It should be this. No other way would capture the Monster Hunter feel.

So Rathalos is a trial. Already hinted with an 8 man party in mind.

Welp it looks like it's going to be that intense, or there's no reason for it not to be, since you'll have to be 70/done with SB MSQ to participate.
I'm more interested in the MH side of the crossover. to have an actual challanging fight against a Behemoth! It looks EPIC!
I missed the "MH side of the crossover" part of your comment, having barely woken up, and was making a remark regarding SE and its habit for disappointments. Indeed, though, the way MH will handle Behemoth should be interesting... just as long as it doesn't involve Cup of Noodles. <_<
Groovy! Gotta get some more coffee in ya! But yeah, I was a little confused as to what you meant, now I get it. Yeah, the FFXIV part of the crossover will be a 2min zerg and done. Nothing even slightly scary. Now, if they put him in Eureka as a big bad, that might have a bit more to it.
Ffxiv gets rathalos and MHW gets Behemoth.
I don't do coffee, actually. =p
As for the zerg, that'd only be the case for any and all FATEs that might be included to this. If this is relegated to a trial then it'll just be a bunch of simple mechanics that some of us can sleepwalk through on Day 1, and so many people will have trouble performing (and demanding nerfs or carries). Please look forward to it. xD
Indeed, along with the scene of 8 players popping that emote at the same time.
Begs the question, however, if it's going to be an actual instance trial does that mean it's permanently in the game? Or are they just experimenting with a new type of temporary duty for special events?
Considering how stupidly popular Monster Hunter is in Japan, it would not surprise me if it was permanent. XIV has already recycled their events from the past and once the monster is in the game, it's in the game. (Look at Yokai Watch.) It doesn't get removed; it simply gets disabled.
I wish the reward is Rathalos mount though, look way better than Twintania in the wyvern category.
RIP FFXV collab, no news since 2016
I know this won't happen BUT.... how cool would it be if you could substitute a Palico as your companion instead of a Chocobo? I mean, I love my featured buddy, but I'd love a Palico even MORE.
Might want to read the post I was responding to (sarcastically but in good natured humor) and try your own response again, chief.
It's not like I was clearly referencing the 10 year troubled development of FFXV, with poking a bit of fun at the last minute delay by two additional months, and attaching it to the FFXV+FFXIV potential collab that was last talked about in 2016, or anything like that. Nope, nothing at all in my post clearly gives that impression.
The beating up is dull, and the armor is ugly. MH started out as a PS2 game over fifteen years ago, and its mechanics only now are starting to escape that. I recommend playing horizon zero dawn sometime, which also has the "kill big critters" theme but it much more story driven with a better world.
I wouldn't mind the rugged aesthetic most MH armors have for my tank glams, since I prefer that to a knightly look for a female Xaela.
It would be great if this collab ended up as expansive as the Garo one with unique armor sets and weapons for each role/job, though.
Yeah HZD doesn't focus solely on episodes with one monster that takes 45 minutes to kill, and it has much better combat because it's less about using a very ungainly weapon and more about traps or tactical use of mobs and elemental weakness. But it takes a lot from MH and improves it; the triplines and rope caster are far more useful and strategic than any tools in MH, and its able to do a lot more with its world. Why cart when you can program a ride?
I'm not a fan of the gameplay either. That particular genre always seems to try to do too much, and ends up making the game too complicated to get into a flow state for most people. God Eater and Freedom Wars suffer from the same issues too. The JP focus so much on packing the game with a bunch of different systems that they don't nail the core gameplay nearly as well as they think they do. It's kind of why they never really designed a decent FPS till Splatoon, for example. There's always stuff like sharpening weapons, or meta gear solid's stupidly complex QTE flow system.
And honestly, can we all assume people are being subjective when they talk about stuff like this?
>Yeah HZD doesn't focus solely on episodes with one monster that takes 45 minutes to kill
it should only take 10-15 minutes to kill a monster 25 minutes at worst even the big monsters shouldn't take that long unless your severely under geared
>and it has much better combat because it's less about using a very ungainly weapon
Opinion and not all weapons are ugly
>and more about traps or tactical use of mobs and elemental weakness.
there are traps in MH and every monster has there own set of elemental weaknesses
>But it takes a lot from MH and improves it
it really doesn't since it plays nothing like MH
you haven't played MH much but you act like you know the ins and out of every game, you're entitled to your opinion but your stating things as facts and that others peoples opinions don't matter.
Looking forward to it. From what I've heard so far, gotta beat Stormblood MSQ, get to 70, and when watching IGN sounded like we're gonna have a trial in this event.
I just hope it isn't another zerg fest like Ixion or Eureka where there are so many players that just about every object gets culled and you spend your time dying to invisible things.
I'm imagining they played the game once without any semblance of tactic or strategy, slowly whittling away a monster, hitting it in the worst spots and dealing minuscule damage for 45 min and thought that was the game.
The visual aesthetic of MH is my jam, I love the broad use of bone, fur, and flesh with/out metal to create a large variety of armors. They may not all look perfect but even some of the clumsier designs I still have some love for; even some of the wackier niche armors like the Butterfly set are awesome, gimme dat!
If you go into Monster Hunter looking at it like it's a glorified hack and slash, you're not going to get much enjoyment out of it. The combat itself is the thrill of the game and just like FFXIV, you can gitgud or you can barely scrape by. The difference with Monster Hunter is "barely scrapping by" eventually weeds players out once high rank hits. Those that manage to stick around probably won't make it in G-rank, as there are legit combos, one-shots and tech traps. The game has a legit learning curve and those that don't want to learn it tend to give up with an immensely bad impression of the game. It is absolutely unforgiving in that aspect; you have to learn the monsters and you have to learn the weapon.
The limited time and carts see to it that you're forced to improve.
Played Horizon: Zero Dawn. Horizon lacks all of the finesse Monster Hunter has. The combat is not nearly as refined as Monster Hunter's combat.
The game has also had quite appealing armor, but only if you've actually looked at all of them. Early armors tend tend to be basic and slightly airing on the ugly side. There are people that are still obsessed with some of the older armor: Kirin, Nargacuga, Barioth, Bnahabra, Mizutsune and even Jinouga.
If you're playing the game right, a monster won't take more than 15-20 minutes (basically, your dungeon run in FFXIV). It's completely possible to kill a monster in minutes, or even, seconds. Monster Hunter both has traps and elemental weaknesses to exploit. Other varied game-play comes with the weapon itself: LBG laying down landmines; HBG turning into a tommy-gun or prone to snipe; bow turning into a long-ranged sniper capitalizing dragon piercer; etc.
You mean like FPS have ammunition and reloading of guns? S'same thing.
A lot of this stuff is subjective, but comparing the two games isn't; you can objectively compare their combat systems from a mechanical standpoint. I can already tell you that Monster Hunter's is better; there's no RNG behind your actions in Monster Hunter or applying status to monsters (dizzy, stun, KO, staggers, para, sleep, poison, blast, exhaustion, severing - NONE of this is RNG), but there absolutely is in Horizon: Zero Dawn (stuns, stripping, etc.).
Curious to see how that plays out. Events have, for as long as I've been playing and can recall at least, been accessible to most of the player base. I can't really recall any that have been any higher than level 20 or 30 max (and can't even think of any that high, but, conservative estimate).
They can't possibly expect us to enjoy an Ifrit NM-level event, and it seem unreasonable to expect this to only be accessible to players that have bought SB expansion and are level capped. Level 50 end of ARR maybe, but even that would be tedious. And syncing all low level players up will be a nightmare, dumping piles of new skills that most won't even understand.
So, special set of duty-only actions? Specially synced stats?
Hm. Fair point. Guess I'll be ignoring this event's existence as well.
Why's that? The event isn't going anywhere.

“We feel that volume-wise, it is pretty significant,” Yoshida said. “It does have some kind of story aspect as well and we feel like it won’t disappoint."
“For XIV’s case, we really had to set up a new gameplay mechanic,” Yoshida teased. “It’s going to feel very different from your typical in Final Fantasy XIV.”
Those worried they’ll have to jump into the content as soon as it launches later this summer should find relief in knowing that the event is not limited time. “It’s something that we want to keep so players can jump in at any time whenever they are ready to try the content,” Yoshida confirmed.
