I love the new Tank set. It's just a shame that it won't be dyable until its Savage equivalent is made obtainable.

I love the new Tank set. It's just a shame that it won't be dyable until its Savage equivalent is made obtainable.
that lancer set on the male Au Ra tho... that is a good looking set!!
I went to the vendor took a look at the caster body piece..and just said "nope". The colors are really not good (healer set looks better) but even the whole piece does not look that great either. Also Omega is in Ala Mhigo and not in Doma, so why asian styled gear?
Most gear that I saw in this expansion really looks lazy or uninspired. Well at least this means that I will only farm the V1 of omega for the accessories and dont need the other ones for glamour.
Lazy and uninspired is stuff like reusing previous models as role-locked filler gear. There's nothing lazy about making a set of themed gear from scratch, and taking inspiration from the 'wrong' place isn't being uninspired so much as just not doing what you personally wanted them to do.
The Omega gear is more a matter of personal taste. Genji armour, however little sense it makes for the setting and wearer, has been in various FF games for ages. I personally love proper bushou armour so I like these even though a lot will look less than wonderful on my character.
I haven't seen them in game yet but I think they look wicked in the screenshots. Especially the fending.
Glad they're in the game but as they're quite a specific style (that appears to be very controversial) maybe they'd have been better as the 69 dungeon armour drops - more a fitting place to obtain them no? Too late now though!
I like 'em!
Hideous. I was expecting something cyber-robotic-ish, kinda like ironworks gear. Now we are interdimensional samurais.
I love the set, but just find it weird to have this samurai armors for exchange in Rhalgr's Reach. If it is set in Orthard area, then it will actually suit it more.
Game need to make sense NOT only to FF fans or its the most stupid thing in the world. We didnt fight any asian themed bosses in the Omega, we are getting sets from OMEGA PARTS and Ironwork people are crafting it for you...and you get some samurai armor and also ugly as hell? What the hell, how does it fit theme if you are not blind ff fanboy? And FFV is not that popular and important, ive heard a lot from FFs and this armor is new to me, its not iconic by any means.
As far as they are ugly, I'm still looking for my caster gear, people keeps telling me there's one but all I see is love for samurais.
Feel like SE really don't care anymore about us raider. Fanservice is cool but... meh. Difficulty has dropped down significantly in savage, and now we get even more ugly gear.
Arn't they just!?
I thought this set would be some trash lvling dungeon set,the entire expansion has been one gorgeous design to another... until this ugly set!
Absolutely. I just wish they designed it differently.
Oh well! /glamour
Oki i see some people did not like alex. But i liked alex the most.
i did not like coils because they were lame and tame and was.. meh.. and too much.
But this omega set is ugly.
What bothers me the most about these raid sets is the samurai look has nothing to do with Omega's aesthetic.
Looks like I'll stick with my Dyable Midan gear for another two patches
It's strange to me that it looks like gear better suited to a Doman Area. Considering Omega is essentially the rift from FF V, you would figure the gear appearance would be FF V based.
Genki pieces are related to Gilgamesh though. While you can make the argument you did, as Gilgamesh was encountered in the Interdimensional Rift and apparently makes a habit of void hopping, it's still a bit of a stretch without Gilgamesh actually making an appearance and being involved in their acquisition somehow.
I was really confused why this eastern gear is obtained from the ala mhigo area... Omega's aether portal actually takes us to Doma? Lol. This gear is terrible, none of my friends like it and it is pretty disappointing. Some of the Binding Coil or Alexander gear was not the greatest for me but it worked with the story and theme going on (allagan designed and designed from alexander parts) but this is...not related to anything. It is just ugly gear which doesn't work with the raid.
That doesn't refute my point. Binding Coil gave Allagan gear, yet we fought Twintania. Where was the Twintania-style gear? Second Coil gave High Allagan gear, yet we fought Nael's She-Bahamut form, where was that style of gear? Etc. with Gordias and Midas. The gear doesn't necessarily. Hell, the Gordias tanking set matches Alexander a lot more than the Alexandrian!
Gear isn't going to be consistent, just glamour something over it and call it a day.
There's a multitude of other things that are stupid about this, like people complaining about casters and healers finally getting some form of armour to wear, even though it's been requested for so long. Just so much lost on so many people just because vanity is everything.
So, a FFV themed raid tier. FFV a game with 22 different classes. 22 different classes that look different depending which of the 5 characters you are use, making for 110 different armour designs to chose from.
And all you could come up with basically 3 different armour sets with marginal differences between the classes that look nothing like FFV?
And it DOES. It's also allowed to make sense for FF fans considering fan service and brand is one of the major driving factors of this game. It's absolutely not a crime for them to incoprorate such nods. It's a Final Fantasy game afterall.
Yeah, so? We didn't fight any Onion Knights or Warriors of Light in Labyrinth of the Ancients and still got that armor. There's no magical rule written in stone saying the raid gear MUST visually match the raid it comes from. There are tons of MMOs that don't come anywhere close to following that kind of logic.
Completely unsubstantiated assumption. There's nothing implicating the Ironwork people are crafting anything for us, and it's more likely they are finding the armor in the Deltascape, and trading it for the bits we get for their own research, since only we are capable of combating the challenges within to get the components. On top of that, your argument goes out the window when it comes to Savage, in which the gear absolutely just drops from the encounter, meaning we can find it in there.
It's almost like that's just a subjective opinion, man. Many people find the armor appealing and like it for what it is.
Where is it written as law it has to visually fit theme of the raid? I'll wait for your official confirmation from the Development team of what they should do with their game. Again, this is a Final Fantasy game and it's not a bad thing to be a fan of the series and have this fanservice be given to you.
You don't like it? Tough.
Genji Armor
I guess FFXIV must be your first Final Fantasy game.

I think the Omega equipment is pretty far from the best looking gear in the game, but to say that the appearance of raid gear has gotten worse over time is definitely subjective.
For me, I really disliked the gear from Final Coil. In my opinion, it was all just a purple mess with too much in the way of fiddly bits.
As I recall, fans had been asking about Genji armor being implemented in XIV, and now seems like a pretty good time to add it.
I'm not overly impressed with a lot of the SB gear, but that's what glamours are for, yeah?
Does anyone else feel like the Striking and Maiming chest pieces where switched? Any and every katana or pair of knuckles clip into the sides and it looks terrible. As it stands, my samurai won't be wearing any samurai armor because of that.
You guys ever see that movie Coneheads? Well just go try on the hat of aiming.
Eh. I have yet to find any armor sets more atrocious and nasty than the HA and Allagan gear. Though I'm confused how the Alexander Gear was in anyway steam punk. It just looked like casual clothes from a local store to me for the most part.
I can't help but wonder if SE is going to say or comment on anything regarding the enormous amount of backlash on these gear sets.
I mean, I'm not expecting them to just yank the designs and swap in something else but they usually say something in conferences and the like when something has enough negative feedback. My hope is they will and use that for incentive to design something more fitting for the next two tiers of the raid.
Shippuu has a point though: these forums have never once represented the majority of the community, and they certainly don't now. That being said, there's no reason for anyone to be hostile with each other.
On topic: while I agree they're not my personal taste, I actually applaud SE for trying some traditional Japanese designs for gear in this game. Haven't read through everything so I apologize if it's been said already, but it's rare to see stuff inspired by the Sengoku period/feudal era Japan in games these days (games usually go full-on Edo or Meiji era if they do traditional inspired gear). The healer hat is reminiscent of the garb strategists and court members would wear (if I remember correctly). That being said they could have done better with the color combinations. The defaults look dull.
Then again I haven't really liked any of the raid gear in this game. It's either way too busy or way too dull. I honestly prefer leveling gear or crafting sets.
I calls'em like I sees'em.
People grossly exaggerating because a set of armor isn't to their particular taste, some going so far as expecting SE to comment/apologize or change the gear. Especially on a set of gear that Yoshida has expressed the dev team and himself spent a lot of time on focusing on accuracy since it's culturally important to them.
Yeah, that's a pretty extreme reaction for what's one set out of dozens upon dozens in this game that cover a huge variety of cultures, styles, and themes. Disrespect often gets met with disrespect.
Its not about the sets being japanese looking, its about not fitting the freaking theme of the RAID. The raid where partly the motivation of farming it is the gear.
The sets would fit very well into a dungeon in this expansion, or hell even tome gear.
Why the hell are you making this a cultural problem when it is about not fitting a theme?
Again, there's no rule that the sets have to visually match the raid, and that's been the case since 2.0 came out with plenty of raid sets not thematically matching.
You're trying to inject some bogus rule that the sets have to match the "theme" of the raid and it's bull. On top of that, we've already established that they DO match the theme of the raid, being a tribute to Final Fantasy V/FF games in general. Just because they don't match the theme you want doesn't mean they don't match a theme.
Ultimately the devs get to decide because it's their game.
I am not setting rules, I am giving my opinion. (All raids so far matched their theme very well, which is the reason I am surprised about Omega gear.)
Well anyway. I wont try to have a discussion with you. Its no use. I am out of this thread.
You are arbitrarily dictating that A) Raid gear must match the "theme" and B) Deltascape gear somehow doesn't match it's "theme".
The "theme" of the Deltascape raid is a love letter to FF5. The bosses have nothing in common with each other, same as the zones, except that they were all in FF5. The strongest armor in FF5 was the Genji equipment.
So what would you have the armor look like? We didn't fight Omega at all in the raid turns, so it absolutely shouldn't look like some scifi tech omega gear. So then what? hmm?
Really? So how did these

Match Labyrinth of the Ancients again?
Oh that's right, they matched in exactly the same way the current gear matches Deltascape.
