Or you could show some respect. You wouldn't be here if it wasn't for 11. Also *fun fact* 11 has made the company the most amount of money of any final fantasy. This is a few years old but it is still accurate. http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/06/...of-all-time-is
So instead of relegating people's opinions of 11 to the garbage pile because you call it old and dead serves no end or purpose in this thread. Unless you have something constructive to add please do not bother posting, we already have too much blah blah blah going on in the forums.
Last point is that there are dozens of systems within 11 that can be fundamentally changed to fit 14 AND the 14 devs have access to the same 11 team to bounce ideas off of.
Blah blah i need to respect a video game and all the players who cant let go get a grip i should also respect everquest and WoW too huh they came before xiv
I'm not sure what he's trying to get at either, but I can relate in the sense that as a "New Age Gamer" as one would describe me, it does get a little annoying to hear how great a game that is presumably dead was get shoved down my throat all the time. I mean, honestly, I can never go anywhere without hearing something about FFXI. I once joined an FC where that was the topic almost regularly, and it sucked because I couldn't relate to the discussion at all because I never played it. Felt like an outcast. I mean, don't get me wrong, people can discuss it all they want. It's great that they have fond memories of something like that. But as somebody who never experienced it, it does slowly get to the point where you just have "Oh great... this topic again" running in the back of your mind. Perhaps it's jealously since I didn't get to experience that, I don't know. Sometimes you just wish people could drop it so we can try making new memories or rather, I want to be able to make those great fond memories myself, but instead I'm always left watching people talk about theirs; and most often about how this game isn't that game. Not that there's nothing wrong with that! It's just all the time about the same topic. Bleh, now I'm just ranting. lol Hopefully you understand what I mean.
I liked that article, because I can heavily relate to everything said. I started playing XI right after Seekers of Adoulin came out and when the Xbox 360 had the Ultimate Collection Seeker's Edition available for purchase. XI was my first/second MMO, PSO was likely my first but it got shut down after I played it for like a few weeks. XI was interesting to get into, the combat was slower and the game was also aged like a fine wine, wasn't easy to get into either. A new player starting out was a harrowing experience, but I got into a LS on Bahamut and made high level friends that helped me through my Limit Break quests and leveling, and without those people I never would have gotten anywhere.
People do need to try and be fair about what separates XI and XIV, because as someone else said, because of subs and how long it was around for, XI is SE's highest paying FF game to date at the very least. It can be attributed for XIV even being put into thought, 1.0 being a flop was for different reasons despite it's similarities to XI.
Nonetheless lots of things could be gained from taking ideas from XI, XIV is a heavily casual game because SE wants to play it safe with the game not push anyone away and keep it accessible to everyone, but the game is so easy if you're doing anything but Savage, a game where 90% of the content is barely thought provoking or challenging in any way is a soft point for me that I believe needs to be adjusted. Like with before HW Yoshi was saying "Yes areas will be dangerous and you will need to group with your allies to get around." Only because some would be 10 levels higher than us, after a few levels it was the same as it's always been, they need to make the overworld more varied and challenging in new ways. Elemental sprites in XI were bosses in of themselves, the same cannot be said for XIV, we need XI's influence and past implementations to be redesigned for XIV to give it new life, because I remember seeing trailers and gameplay for XIV 2.0. After coming from XI my mind was blown, I couldn't believe the graphics and the faster combat and how it looked, and it did feel pretty magical at first jumping from XI>XIV. But 14 is getting stale fast, and it's staying power is dwindling and SE needs to change things up and go about it differently for the next year. Because we're coming up on a huge turning point and now is the time for them to change how everything plays for us.
Fun fact ffxiv saved Squre from going bankrupt
But with this example you could replace 11 with any game you haven't played. This game had the already built in population of 11 transfers so this game had a starting base population that consisted of an overwhelming amount of 11 users. Naturally this translates to a lot of people comparing and being nostalgic.
I feel the same way as you when people bring up WoW and this game, but only because I never played WoW at all and don't understand the references. However, I just stay out of those since I don't have an educated opinion on the matter.
Actually 14 has been nowhere near half, not even a quarter. 11 is 14 *hah, ironic* years old, of course its glory days are long behind, no one once argued that and it really isn't up to you to debate the merits of it's success. It comes with the territory. Mmo's age and become less and less popular til they are very small or go f2p. While it may be true mmo's were not yet oversaturated there are many other factors to consider such as the weight of it's name at the time. Everquest, as an example, had been out for awhile and appealed more so to a western market. We also can't compare how successful 14 is compared to 11, because we won't ever have access to those figures but I doubt they will ever come close. Remember 14 1.0 tanked costing them millions and a ton of bad PR and then had to use even more money to rebuild. 11 only made them money, and a ton of it, though there was no cash shop in that game, so that certainly will help 14 in the long run but at what cost.
I'm done I just don't understand why you xi players can't leave it in the past where it belongs stop bringing it up on the xiv forums it's done time to move on
Have fun living in 2002 unable to let go
Again, all you are doing is resorting to attacks, and not adding anything positive or constructive to the conversation, so I repeat myself endlessly, why are you posting in here? I have provided examples, and evidence, and anecdotes.
All you say "stop living in the past" as if that makes any sense, especially since I literally never have once posted that I want this game to be 11 2.0. Not once. Check my post history, have fun. Borrowing systems is what this game is all about is it not? That is what everyone said, it's a WoW clone. So I fail to see any reasonable offense to suggesting it borrow systems from a game within it's own heritage.
I also apologize for kidnapping the thread a bit, its just I don't understand why someone posts if they have nothing of any context to add to the conversation or the will to carry rational discussion on the topic at hand. I can respect your points, if you actually had any substance to it.
lol plz plz give us a source PLZ i BEG you cause all I've read from you to this point is just childish drivel. Also again like others have said if you do not have anything proper to contribute without bitching then do not post at all. And like someone said you would not even be playing this game if it was not for XI. Good day to you sir.
I don't get why you guys are bothering to retort to a legit troll. I can sing praises to XI in all honesty, but comments that disagree with no foundation such as those are just bait and not worth the effort.
