We're unlikely to get ugly races in this game. It just isn't profitable. Anything added will fit the 'hot' or 'cute' aesthetic.

While you might find this acceptable, SE most likely would not. A great deal of effort is put into making sure each gear item works for every race (this was mentioned back when Au Ra were added). It would look extremely unprofessional to just hack the model parameters of some other race, call it Viera and release it.

The "just" in the title of this thread is terribly misused. It's not like SE can just flip a switch and add a new race. They would have to do it properly, and that would entail significant development effort.

At least working on the Viera you do not take the risk of doing someting "useless".
People want Vieras, so instead of asking a team to create a new one (model + lore + stuff) adding them would save SE time/money cause they won't need to "hope" people will be receptive to their work and effort considering they ask for it.

NOPE!...not all people want Viera, Why do something like this? it would seem half as***, and like Singularity and some others have mentioned it would take a considerable amount of Dev time and work, dev time that would/could be used for more content and features that would be more beneficial and important to players than a new race...THIS would bring in/keep more players than adding a new race....but that's just my opinion, everyone has their views on this subject after all.

I did not say ALL people, I said people, like in "some people with a fetish for tall, beautifull bunnyeared woman" :p

more options for current races will be better than a new race. if new updated visuals come out for human or elf i will total fantasia my character

I know what you mean, It's just we have to look at the reality of what people are asking for...just for the sake of argument SE decides to add the Viera race...it will not look anything like what people are wanting, they will definitely be a bunny race...but they will not look anything like the concept art some people have posted in this thread, they will most likely be close to humanoid in appearance (aka look like a hyur or miqo), a good example of a change would be the feet...which someone mentioned already in this thread a few pages back, SE would not dedicate so much dev time and work to go back and change armor sets for one race, for them it would be easier to have the new race look as humanoid as possible and i'm pretty sure some people would be more than satisfied....and others not so much, and some of those "others" would be very vocal about it in these very forums lol.

For me personally i want to see something like this, the visuals already look great, but what if they updated the race models visually with more customization options...and i won't even mention they could totally do it once they drop PS3 support..what with that pesky ps3 limitations thing.....but then again i just did! :p

Also, as I mentioned a few times before, their ears... like tails and Au Ra horns, they'd just clip through the gear, which would not look very nice. Especially if they 'flip-flop' while moving.

^ Yeah this too, it's why i don't wear any type of head gear once i fantasiad to Au'Ra...crowns, eye patches, eye glass wear are fine and i use/display them, but hats, pot helms, or any of that type of head wear are out for my character.

SE should save any new races for an expansion further down the line, this next expansion should expand the character customization to give us more options and to give us more of a unique look to our characters.

I don't know...Worgen is pretty darn cool. I played one in WoW along with Tauren. Pretty fun races tbh and even though I like Viera I would prefer something like Worgen first.

I doubt SE will be able to make something like Worgen though unless they go back on their 'we can't do that because armor models/body type differences' etc. Worgen would look very strange if they didn't have their bent wolf like legs and huge paws so creating the gear to fit them is likely going to be an issue for SE.

So if they did add a wolf race it'd end up being a Miqote with wolf ears instead of cat ears and a bushier thicker tail. I would like it fine but I am easy to please because I just don't care as much. Most games have a race already in it that I can relate to enough to enjoy using it as my character.

Would of been cool if you could have full scales on your Au Ra. But I guess they want them to be mostly human.

and not care that it's a race established in its own universe? It's easy to port XI, XII and XIII mobs because they're just enemies can work in any setting but this is a race that's pretty much exclusive to Ivalice, kinda takes away from that a race BASED on Viera would be much better, not actual Viera, no ugly full furry races either, that's such a WoW thing to ask for ( never played it mind you but races in that game look ugly and generic western) and not really what people play a series like Final Fantasy for unless we got a burmecian-like race, cause it can be cute and be furry while still keeping that FF aesthetic.

From what i have gathered it's mostly back from before the expansion was even announced, if i remember correctly SE had a Poll to see what players would like to see as the next race introduced in the coming expansion, and Viera was on the list, and as you can guess it racked up a lot of votes, i don't think SE had any idea the race was that popular and as you know they ended up not using the poll and instead just ended up introducing the Au'Ra race instead...and since then fans had felt....i dunno i guess betrayed? lol...cause YoshiP gave a reason why they decided not to go with Viera, and so fans of the race had felt let down since then and they are still fighting the good fight and being vocal to get the race in the game.

I dunno...the players need to realize the Poll was not a "you pick the race and we'll add it in the expansion" poll...it was just a poll to get feedback on what players would want to see in game.

And Yoshida did the right thing. I like FFXIV to an extent for its fan service but Viera like I mentioned already have a home.

Viera are quite possibly the most boring, least-inspired non-human race that has ever been conceived in this series. Please, keep them as far away from FFXIV as possible. We already have 5 races that may as well be the same thing in a different flavor, we don't need another one.

both agree and disagree ff14 in its self is just an amalgamation of all past and future ff titles so to say its sepret from ivalise would be true but also falls eseshaly when all of the asions masks are bassed on the espers from ff12 google it

Jokes aside, I love the Viera. They're more than just beautiful and elegant - They have an interesting code and way of life. I love the relationship between wood wardens and salve makers. I could even see a spin off of salve-making being a new healing class. Something that uses illusion dust/incense to support allies or debuff enemies. (mortar and pestlel weapon? Incense Burner?) They have an interesting connection with magic that could easily be spun into a garlemald/ascian plot. I'm grateful that they were considered at all for a new race! (Yay pretty concept art!)

Not that I'm adding anything new to the discussion at this point, but I am vehemently opposed to adding Viera to the game. And I say this as someone who loves the Viera in every FF game that they appear in. We don't need another hyur with animal bits and we sure as hell don't need another cute race either.

Sorry for this little mini-rant, but personally, I'm sick and tired of this obsession with everything having to be cute in this game. I love cute things as much as the next girl, but between almost every female of every race and the vast majority of outfits for said females (even most of the battle/victory poses are designed to be cute), this game is fast approaching cute overload. Sure, SE could make them look "fierce" and "intimidating," but after what they did...or rather didn't do with Au Ra, does anyone seriously think they would? The Au Ra concept art was incredible, but they went with the safest, easiest option. Hey, clearly it paid off and that's great for them, but I think it's safe to say a lot of us were more than disappointed.

If they're going to do anything regarding races, they should just add a ton more options to existing races. If they have to add a new race, I would much rather that they resurrect that Au Ra concept art or come up with something totally original...and not cute.

I'm also opposing the idea of Viera in Eorzea. We must stop adding furry races already. We already have 2 animopric races with tails. They should focus on adding customization options to the current ones. Like faces, body features and more. No more wasted resources creating what we already have. I do not want to see any more races in game. Look at AuRa. It's been almost a year since we got them and they are still a mystery. I still have the sense they do not fit properly. Perhaps things will be better once we go towards their lands and learn more about them and their towns/villages/caravans whatever. Character customization still lacks a lot of things and the options are too limited. Focus on improving that.

Miqo'te and Au Ra aren't exactly what I'd call "furry." Beastmen are what would be one.

I agree with the development team's statement. I would rather see more some non-humanoid races come next instead another humanoid with "animal feature"

I just wanna be a goblin, honestly. Wants to uses my think-maker to boom-toss at angry-beasts.

Wow, really? That's really cool. I'm not too versed in XII's lore, played it heaps when I was still in school but honestly forgot all about it, I do need to replay it then if that's true.
Sounds shallow but for that reason alone I think the asions are alright now.

I don't think we will be seeing a new race anytime soon....well i could be wrong...no one can predict the future lol, but i think SE has given us hints at what we *might* get....they introduced mixed races already...Hilda is a good example, i'm betting they might give us something like this next at least to a certain extent, we will just have to see what the Dev team has in store for us...if anything at all as far as new races or more character customization go.
