doing 1-2-3 repeat as any melee job gives you more than 500 dps (tanks excluded because tanking stance, though some i210 tanks manage to go under 250 dps....). Even Ice mages can go above 700 dps.

Unless it's a "ruin only" smn, I'm not sure how you can achieve such a low dps without purposely spending full GCDs doing nothing. If anything, I'm impressed by the willpower of these players. It must be harder to be that bad than to perform on a good level on a regular basis.

I really thought the training grounds was going to be a parser of some sort...

Why doesnt it tell you your damage at the end? have a "your best score" or "server best score" so you have something to compare to or how you need to improve? :( I hope they do some adjustments..

Being on ps4 I have wanted to know where I am at with dps. Sucks having to find someone with a parser all the time. The New SSS gives enough that you can get a good idea of your dps. http://www.2digitalgames.de Is what I use on my iPhone. Select the job you are on, the trial and then the % not finished or time remaining and you get a parse. Simple, helpful and while it doesn't give you the same info a parser on PC would, it isn't bad and can help you work on your dps or at least know where it is.

Nope, that's not how it works. It's kind of like the phrase "guns don't kill people, people kill people" (sorry if this is in poor taste, I'm just using it to illustrate that an object only does what the operator wills).

Damage meters are like computers in that they can't do anything they're not told to do; they can't promote anything but data. However, an already terrible human CAN use them for negativity... which I think is closer to what you're getting at. It doesn't really change anything that's already been stated in this thread, though.



EDIT to clarify: I'm for damage meters because they're a tool. Whether they are wielded by good or evil, well... that's a risk taken with any tool ever made.

Without pcs us ps4 players wouldn't even know what a parser was or its uses. We should remove all pc support from the game or add in a background checker to disable anything from screen recorders to parsers. >:[ [Not really serious about that]

So much support in this thread with almost an equal amount of opposition. Poses two questions of why so opposed, as Priya said, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" kind of rings true and with current policies instated for delinquent use of parses already being harsh, and if they implement a parser I believe those policies wouldn't change...so people would still need to hold hands just now there's no hiding your inadequecies...why oppose a tool that should make people better with these limitations? (and if someone brings up improper use of a parser in anything other than current primal and raid content...just wow)

If SE made a server for competitive orientation, with this straight split in this thread about this, I wonder how many people would transition over.

I would feel bad for the "let's have fun" group because not everyone in that group has fun maxing their capabilities.

I just tried the new Stone, Sky, Sea thing and it's absolutely horrible and doesn't even compare. It's just a standalone dummy that doesn't even fight back. Also it absolutely sucks for healers, it just makes us dps the entire way. No way I'm going to be dishing out that much dps in A5S as a whm (idk maybe I will, I haven't done savage yet). I've played games that had built in dps/hps meters before. The casual community of those games don't even recognize it exists for the most part, I mean is the ff14 community actually scared of a dps meter? Really guys? xD

The people that most in here have a problem with are those that are clearly not even attempting to pull their weight. If you're running the newest expert dungeons and still do not know what you're meant to do as your class then why even run it.

It was a Bard, can't say I know enough about the class to say how it was done. Considering it was Bismarck Extreme, I have to assume they've been farming for the mount for quite some time and resorted to watching Netflix/TV while clicking 1-1-1-1 over and over.

It's not so much people being scared of a parser, but what a parser will do to the community.

Already people fail simple mechanics. Adding in another distraction that the community will; almost certainly, expect everyone then to use will only cause harm to those that already have trouble with said mechanics only to add a new distraction on top of that. Then there's the toxic element, yada yada yada.

If one were ever to be implemented it should only be available to those in a FULLY preset party. If there's so much as a single random person in the group; from DF obviously, the parser should be inaccessible, therefore cutting some of the toxicity.

I'm not surprised it was a bard actually, now before anyone jumps down my throat, the reason I say that is that bards and machinists are the only classes that can completely disable their auto attacks, blm can do over 700 with just blizzard as Kuwagami noted and smn garuda can contribute enough DPS that ruin two spam alone should bring them over 500 in full 210.

I don't know if it's really a distraction insofar as people shouldn't be looking at it during a fight, but I can see what you're getting at if you mean that people will worry about it and thus possibly fail a mechanic because they're thinking too much about the meters. Not thinking about it is something that comes with time and practice, though, like most things that cause similar anxiety.

Being able to do mechanics means nothing if you dont have the DPS numbers to back it up.

Tbh, other games I've played with parsers have about the same amount of people ignoring mechanics, so I consider this just another false arguement...

Also, I don't know if you realize this, but parsers track more than just damage out, the also track damage in, healing out etc. So it's extremely obvious if someone is not dodging stuff in favor of a little more dps. Mechanics will still need to be done, so people will be expected to do them, and still get called out for not doing it.

Of course the odd person will get away with it, they already do, it's not the parsers fault.

A chat box is required for the game to function at a basic level. A parser is not.

Sorry but I have played WoW so I know exactly where dps addons go. It is not needed, it will only make the community worse... why waste resources? If you are skilled at any level where a parser may help you should be able to figure out if you are doing good damage or not. If you are not skilled then a parer isn't going to help because you haven't even figured out the basic rotation.

Waste resources? They already have a parser in their development builds as shown in a screenshot not too long, the only thing that would need to implemented is an actual UI for it, but that shouldn't be a problem as I'd imagine their UI team isn't exactly constantly active. Also, you can play the entire game from the beginning to end without using chat, excluding those quests that have you type things. Remind me, how is that required for the game to function?

So what exactly is your argument for a parser? It isn't needed since the game has been doing just fine for years without one. Maybe you are exactly the type of person we are talking about? The only purpose of these is to attack others or stroke your ego.

Chat box is basic, VOIP is an enhancement to that fact.

Knowing your rotation is basic, having a parser enhances the fact that you should know it by the time you're supposidly ready for raids and current primals.

Right at this instant in my servers pf list there are 4 groups "requiring ts3/vent/discord", this, just like this shaded arguement that a parser would alienate a certain group...at least with a parser you'll know you will need to improve whereas this VOIP requirement just alienates the majority who don't want to download it or speak in it or even use it cause they have..."voice interaction anxiety"? Who knows but this is just another reason we can't have nice things and enjoy them.

99% of the game's content doesn't require proper doing of mechanics other than "Move out of this big orange AoE", all challenging content I've done is learnt through written/video guides. You know why we fail a lot of that content? That's right, a lot of it has to do with poor DPS. If you mean resources CPU wise, then PS3 can either be singled out or it can implemented with 4.0 when the PS3 is likely to be dropped.

How so? I can go through the game from 1-60 hell even do endgame savage stuff without a chat box.

A parser does indeed help people improve, if you cannot admit that then there is no point continuing this conversation as we will get nowhere.

Do you mean resources like machine resources (CPU, memory, internet etc) or developer? If you mean the former, I'm no authority, so perhaps someone more knowledgeable than I can say how much they tend to take; I was always under the impression it wasn't too hard on a machine. If you mean the latter, perhaps SE can go the same route as Blizzard and let the community develop addons/parsers similar to what ACT already is. I think that uses less developer resources as all they need to do is make sure things don't go too far (e.g when Blizzard broke AVR because it was too invasive and trivalized heroic Rotface's slime mechanics).

I am fully aware of what parsers are capable of. I had an eight year relationship with WoW starting back in 06 and have seen exactly what parsers can turn a community into.

I'm not arguing the usefulness of a tool that "can help" people, I'm arguing the point that when the tool is used by tools to berate, belittle and abuse those who simply don't know better.

Moreover a built-in in-game parser isn't helpful unless it tells you what is wrong. Sure, if you're a knowledgeable player you can figure this stuff out, but to people relatively new the parser; in the end of all things, is just telling you numbers. It's not informing where you should be at performance wise at what item levels per class. It's not telling you your optimal rotation or how to align buffs and debuffs to maximize damage potential.

Again, it's helpful to those that know how to utilize it and it's information. Toxic due to the tools that would abuse it. And less than helpful; potentially confusing, to those who don't know how to use it or altogether new to it.

Like what I said in my previous post; or essentially said, I'd be fine with one, as long as it were limited use.

Not sure if you are serious or not here. From your inability to understand how damage in can be helpful, something extremely obvious, I would say you are intentionally misunderstanding it.

Do I need to restate the obvious for my argument for parser, it's pros are extremely obvious, thought from the last bit of your quote, (that objectively wrong fear mongering bit.) you seem to have an emotional bias against them, for reasons one can only guess at.

Also, has the game been "Doing just fine for years"? Has it really? Maybe for you, but what about all those groups that constantly fail DPS checks, look at BEX for an example, or in the "years" category, Amadapor Bees nerf.

Of course it can't play the game for you, that's essentially what it would be doing if it did what you suggest here. And of course it can be abused, everything in the game can be abused to that end. Hell, emotes can, do you aggree with that insano who was here talking about sicing the child protective services on SE because emotes can be abused?

Also, of course, people new to parsers won't be experts, like all tools, you have to get used to them to be proficient with them. However, they are fairly easy to understand at a basic level, and just as information can be used to berate, it can also be used to defend, and surprisingly enough, to improve.

Seriously though, why would you even bring up that it doesn't tell you what buffs and debuffs to use optimally, of course it wouldn't sit there and go "Virus now!" , "eye for an eye now!" but, with the info from it, you can figure out what are the better times to use these.

Well thats obviously the case, you learn the mechanics then you figure out how to maximize your dps. I am just merely pointing out that you could be the best person in the world at mechanics and still be an awful DPS/Healer/Tank.

New players know nothing when they start the game, that doesn't prevent them from learning. Nobody starts something thoroughly versed in it. And they don't have to sit around hitting a striking dummy to improve. The parser will tell them their performance every run, they will know if they are performing well or not, and are more likely to try to improve, if only a little. To a brand new person it is useless, just like most things in the game, as soon as they start running things, anything, they will be able to notice trends. "Hey, when I do this, my damage is greater most of the time, or when I do this, its less, I think I'll stick with the greater option." or "Hey, not dodging means I take two/three times as much damage as everyone else, maybe I should improve on that."

Do these things make everyone a pro player, no, nothing can or will, and that is not the goal, the goal is to make the player base better. And yes, I believe a large portion would take steps, however actively to improve when they are able to have a metric for their performance. Are you HONESTLY saying that a reason it shouldn't be implemented is because new players may not know it? Do you think they are really that lacking in the learning department?

You're acting like all of us started the game immediately knowing our optimal rotations.

I'll have you know that newbies are quite capable of learning things.

Why not a self viewed or group toggled option parser. For view or hide your numbers. Have them color coded based on your level, red if your numbers are lower than where they should be, green if average and blue for stellar. Letting you take pride in how you do dps. Letting you fine tune and test rotations and get real answers without doing massive theory craft. As a blm it be nice to know if the increase from convert and SC f4 during first Enoch is enough of a gain to do it. for mentors, fc buddies, even self, Google and see if the dps on par. The whole toxic argument is moot since people talk cap without numbers. At least knowing your numbers gives you a defense, or let's you know if you really are the problem and can address it instead of getting upset. I love running with people on pc who parse. After bOSS fights getting my numbers and pushing them higher, competing with other blm. And since pc has them anyway you might as well even the playing field for consoles

I used a parser in WoW. I saw no real increase in resource usage at all.

If that isn't good enough for you, I asked a friend who uses a parser. He said it at most takes 80 mb of ram (the game's minimum requirements asks for 2 GB of ram btw) and rarely even registered on CPU usage and when it did it was at most a measly 1% (this was gathered via the task manager). Parsers are incredibly light weight. A lot of the data that would be collected by a parser is already collected by your battle log tab in the chatbox; a parser would just use that information and calculate some things and print out the numbers that it came up with and a computer that can run FFXIV can easily do basic computation.

I wouldn't even think it would take a lot of developer resources. I am pretty sure they already have their own parsers for testing purposes. All they would have to really do is give it a nice UI and look, something they already have a lot of resources for like font size and type for example. And even if they don't, addon support. Didn't they say they would eventually put in addon support?

I mean, I still want it, better late than never. Emphasis on the BETTER LATE THAN NEVER. Seriously, add-ons would be really nice; not just parsers but other quality of life things that comes with a more customizable UI would make the game far more enjoyable.

I'd like to also add that anyone who would use a parser to berate and do all sort of toxic things is probably already doing it. An actual in game parser would do more good than harm; people can actually openly help others with them without risking ourselves. Yeah there will be people who don't want to improve, but there are also people who would want to improve but don't even know of the issue to begin with. Having a parser would help them in actually noticing any deficiency in their gameplay so they would know that they have something to work on. It is kind of hard to improve your DPS when you don't even know what it is, let alone whether or not you are underachieving. The first step is identifying the problem.

People who oppose a parser are just the same as people trying to police language because it can be "offensive and used to harass".
I mean for real, guys, put your feet on the ground. Anything can be used to hurt anyone from chairs to powercables, napkins and oxygen (breathing kills you :c), a lala thrown at your head, a glock or a clock. What you want out is the, indeed, problematic people who use any tool to harass you.
It's very interesting to see what number did you hit and why, watching a graph of your dmg, a log of your rotation, the damage you took, comparing variations on rotations to see which is most benefitial.

Then again what it's not acceptable is a i205 pulling 400dps on Faust or someone not being able to kill Bismarck's carapace when you can do it half assed. Just, nope. If you want a carry, ask for it. Some will do it free, some will ask gil from you.

I'm on ps4 and I want a goddamn parser. I want to know how do I do in every fight and what I could do better, and asking people to parse me gets annoying sometimes. I couldn't care less about ego stroking, I want to do better to clear stuff more efficiently and help people easier.

I mean, I still want it, better late than never. Emphasis on the BETTER LATE THAN NEVER. Seriously, add-ons would be really nice; not just parsers but other quality of life things that comes with a more customizable UI would make the game far more enjoyable.
