Hi. I was a STR tank since.... MY FIRST MONTH IN GAME!.... (2.1! )
People back then was like... "WTF, our tank is full STR, look at that low vit, we are all doomed!"... (They thought it meant to have more defense or only Hydaelin knows what.)
I'll miss STR, goodbye, my dear...
Now, I won't be able to know which tanks are newbie just by checking their accessories
Now, I won't share accessories with my monk and dragoon anymore... Those lovely -for-5-job-accesories...
Now, I won't be able to carry as I did before this, and to push up things when the DPS were just 2.0 powered despite being in 3.1 content.
Now, I won't feel I'm going risky and I'll have to supply my lack of vit with skill and knowledge for tank killers, it doesn't matter, I'll have....Lots of VIT.
Having more DPS than the proper DPS is not added to the list?... Oh, and... .In a dungeon is not that it really matters to have 2k less HP or more. Only to have DPS and aggro better. (Aggro better = more room to DPS)
The mentality of maximising DPS as a Tank isn't going to disappear in 3.2, so to those who disliked STR Tanks in general you're still going to have to deal with people dropping Tank stance as soon as they feasibly can anyway.
haha this thread has so many salty DPS rubbing their hands together at the prospect of being the highest dps in their important expert roulettes once again.
Just remember that you're gunna have to step your dps up now. You too healers! No more dots without cleric and hoping nobody noticed ;)
But yeah. RIP Str tanks. Was nice while it lasted.
Which is fine. Because that is a skill thing. Mid fight stance swapping to prevent the big hit is a completely different situation because it evolves with the fight itself. Str gear was the equivalent of walking into a duty finder group and telling healers "git gud cause ima dps". What you do in a static is all on you, but str tanking became the only way to do things that it started bleeding down to the leveling classes. And not sure if have healed a dps try hard in scaled dungeons for leveling, but they don't even leave time to lay down a round of dots before the healer needs to panic.
Its normal to switch in dps stance as a tank. That means that you know perfectly your job.
Well this is more entertaining than the healer PDS threads that pop up once a month.
I never understood why the game designers originally had tank damage coming off of strength in the first place. Seemed like a miss back in the design phase that is now being rectified. After all we have dex-base, int-based and str-based damage on other classes so why did it take so long to make tanks Vit-based for their damage?
As it is while running as my healer (AST) or as my DPS (DRG) I have never had a problem with either tank build as long as they were holding threat and using abilities to help keep themselves alive. The ONLY ones that make me cry are the tanks that pull big and then lay it all on the healer without using those awesome mitigating abilities their class/job gave them. Or as a DPS when I am not overgeared to the tank and I have to cut my rotation back to keep from pulling aggro (On the mob they have been concentrating on).
But yes, good bye STR tanks, your time has come to an end but I know the good players will still be good and hopefully in my groups. ^_^
Good riddance, i say.
I still have nightmares from the first couple weeks of HW, with all the fresh baby DRKs trying their hardest to be a dps.
The good STR tanks shall be missed, but i never encountered enough of them to want things to stay the way they are.
Woohoo now I can actually need on gear that I need! Who woulda thunk it?
Man some of you guys are gonna be in for a rude awakening tomorrow when...
Nothing has changed. Tanks will have a bit more HP but thats it, if anything I wouldn't be surprised to see some Tanks still rocking full strength because they didn't read the patch notes and are very confrontational in DF.
Warrior still going to be best tank DPS though, right?

Gonna miss them asking if anyone saw how much their fell cleave did if not.
Tomorrow is going to be hilarious when all these salty healers realize bad tanks aren't magically good in the morning.
This is the last full str day. Tomorrow im a new person, a new tank, a full vit tank with 21k hp.
I'm happy with this. I really don't understand why (a few) people are being so sentimental about it.
The only annoying thing is I'm going to have to buy vit accessories. But that's fine. Gives me something more to do.
R.I.P to my Slaying accessories on my tanks. *pours out 40oz* we had good times
I was a str tank too, because there was never needed for extra Hp. I did it in 1-3 savage, hell I even did half of a2 with tank stance as war :) I talk about savage. Did thordan MT as war with str gear and 15 points into str and rest on vit ^^. I don't blame the healers, but I blame that people never want to be better. Ive ran dungeons in 10 min, while I was in str gear and healer was dpsing. I will however blame healers once vit gear is the main stat on right side for tanks now ;).
Crappy thing is I'm pretty sure tanks are going to do far less dps too, even with the added bonus damage with vit, they gave all tanks increased enmity so yeah... DX
All this complaining from Healers and DPS when they don't realize now they actually HAVE to do their JOBS. There will be no excuses when a 25K+ Tank dies on a healer who does nothing but heal and there will DEFINITELY be no excuses why DPS are doing only 400 DPS @ ilv 220. I look forward to the NEW EXCUSES you guys come up with in 3.2
I bid my Slaying accessories a fond farewell. Except you, nasty smelly Eso ring. I'm glad to replace you.
I'm confused as to why this needed to be a thread. STR tanks aren't going away. They'll just now be called "tanks that didn't read the patch notes or the new stat descriptions".
That's more a reflection of bad players than the meta itself. Under the STR meta, the emphasis was being on point with your defense (i.e. good CD management) as well as your offence. The ignorant/bad got it twisted by only seeing the DPS numbers and thinking that's all they had to focus on.
Either way I'm glad for the shift in accessories. Like I said earlier, it's not like the mentality is going to shift; the ones who knew what they were doing will simply stand out more vs those who got by off following the meta but not really understanding how/why it worked.
That's why I said "at the prospect of". The ones that get out dps'd by tanks now will probably still be out dps'd.
It's just funny to see people saying that running Str as a tank has been inconsiderate etc. The only ones who really have a right to complain are the healers and I'm yet to see a good healer complain about it. Note that I said a good healer.
I would like to say don't get me wrong by my previous post. I have no problem whatever gear tanks now use.
But when i see people being hypocrites I gotta point it out.
Enjoy tanking in 3.2 you guys <3
why is everybody acting like tanks are getting a huge DPS Nerf? i recall that the DPS will be slightly lowered but no so much it warrants a "R.I.P" thread.
Good bye strength tanks and hello to all my new stance swapping pld's and drks welcome to the party! Str tanks will live on in spirit through more efficient stance swaps! It would have been nice if grit's mp cost was reduced to help our drk pals out but that'll have to addressed another day.
I hope our damage isn't that much lower

Already mentioned this in another thread but I guess it wasn't a dedicated tank thread. We're not getting nerfed to the ground like some people will believe, we'll still be able to carry bad DPS, because bads will continue to be bad. We'll still be able to make dungeon runs go faster by playing optimally at our job just like any DPS or Healer contributing to the dungeon run. Each pull of dungeons we'll have a higher kick starter of HP so the Healer's can DPS more before healing, same for raids, during downtime of raid scenarios our HP will be back to 100% allowing more healer DPS uptime.
Someone apparently doesn't read patch notes or read live letters.
Str tanks are getting a rip thread because it has been stated black n white. Using str gear will be a dps loss for tanks compared to vit gear. That is why there is a RIP thread. It has nothing to do with any dps loss as we don't know how high vit will scale for dps.
I dont think I've ever seen a WAR with full VIT gear...I wonder what that juicy amount of HP is going to look like :o
