I must be doing something wrong. I go to the Windows Update page like it tells me and Win 10 is not there. Both my computers are registered for the update.
That tech support rep is an idiot, swapping out your video card or adding/ swapping ram wont invalidate windows. It's when you SWAP out too many components that happens. Also the likelyhood you wouldn't be able to reactivate atleast a few times is pretty low.
actually I think it's newer OEM machines getting it first
if you're wanting to update sooner go here
Windows 10
just make sure you know if your PC is 32 bit or 64 bit
Just to add to this:
I have been using OEM versions of Windows 98 and XP. Both on heavily upgraded machines (like I was changing components on a monthly basis back then...). And it worked fine for several upgrades. And when it stopped working, you just had to call MS, tell them that you are only using the key on 1 PC, and they would remotely activate it.
1. Did you upgrade after the release of Windows 10? (Jul 29th)
Waited a few days after.
2. Did the game start with zero issues?
no issues
3. Running DX11 version of the game just fine?
yes
4. Noticeable changes? (Game wise)
Running smoothly than before (windows 7)
5. Personal experience you would like to share about it? (Windows 10 / FFXIV with W10)
Only issues I have during the game is when teleporting/zoning games freezes up during the load screen sometimes and crashes or it just takes longer than usual to load.
Does anyone have the same issues or know any possible solution to this?
Edit: 6. Did you follow up with a clean install after the upgrade?
no
My advice for all of you is that you must make your free upgrade through your windows following the guides or the official tool then for the love of god make a clean install by formatting your HDD/SSD with a DVD/USB. Windows always messing with the registries and leaving unnecessary trash files behind. There is No need for product key after your free upgrade for the same machine. You can clean install and format your drive countless times with your USB/DVD after you've done the free upgrade Windows remembers your hardware configuration and reactivates automatically. If you have no problems or you don't know how to clean install don't do it then but it is highly recommended to make a clean install with format after the free upgrade to eliminate chances of getting problems later on.
1. Yep, the moment it was released.
2. Yes it did, I've had no issues with it.
3. DX11 runs perfectly fine on my PC too.
4. Yes, my game performance has increased by a few FPS. Might have been the nVidia drivers and not Windows 10 but it's the only difference I've seen.
5. So far I'm loving Windows 10 and I'd recommend the upgrade to anyone who can do it.
6. No, had no need to clean install.
1. Did you upgrade after the release of Windows 10? (Jul 29th)
Yes (yesterday)
2. Did the game start with zero issues?
No, the launcher itself had some browser connection issue (resolved)
3. Running DX11 version of the game just fine?
No problems so far
4. Noticeable changes? (Game wise)
Slight increase in frame rate and overall stability
5. Personal experience you would like to share about it? (Windows 10 / FFXIV with W10)
Interface is much closer to 7 than it is 8. But I still have little use for live tiles as I don't really do social media or anything...
Edit: 6. Did you follow up with a clean install after the upgrade?
No, I plan on building a new machine in the next month or so and doing a clean install on there. For the time being, unless I run into any problems, I'll just leave it alone
The only problem I had after I installed Win10 is that the launcher for XIV stopped saving my SE ID (Even when ticking the box to remember it), No idea how to make it save it again but its not a big issue.
I've had no issues with Windows 10 itself, and actually a slight performance increase I feel.
I did have a problem with Avast! which would cause the launcher to come up blank (it got the news items, but nowhere to enter account information).
With windows 10 I have no issue, the problem is the game. When I'm on DX11 I can't have my browser open, I can't have my usual chat programs open, I literally can't have anything open with hardware acceleration. I can't even alt+tab when in borderless window, because the game will freeze....
All worked fine for me, no tweaks or changes required after the Win 10 upgrade. In honesty though, Win10 is a bit pointless if all you do is play XIV, I certainly have not even looked at the OS's new features.
Well...
It brings a performance upgrade over both Win 7 and Win 8.1.
If you were using Win 7 on an SSD your startup with Win 10 will be like 3 times faster.
If you were already using Win 8.1 it cuts out the need for a 3rd party program to bring back Start Menu.
And well, you only have a year to upgrade, and there is a possibility to forget.
IMO those are good enough reasons even if you don't care about any other of the new features. ;)

i upgrade from 7 to 10, and i get a massive incerase in FPS with my potato laptop, it incerase almost 30% the FPS (from 25 ish, to stable 30 all the time,i limit the fps to 30)
1. Yes, but I was "forced" to change back to 7
2. Yes
3. For some weird reason, I can't play with DX11. Not even when I was trying out windows 10 (I'm pretty sure my computer has DX11, but go figure)
4. Reason why I changed back to 7, my game sounds were all messed up. They were swinging up and down and I could barely hear any combat sound. For example I couldn't hear Ravana music in the background when I did trials.
5. I absolutely loved windows 10, such a shame I had to change back because I couldn't figure out why my sounds were like that. I will probably give it another try later on.
I recently change my laptop to Windows 10 and it doesn't have any issue.
I updated my crap top could barely play and since the upgrade to win 10 catalyst don't work right and my SD card reader stopped working and can't update driver and tbh I doubt I can get ffxiv to even load to do crafting since it's all I can do with craptop
Much, much better than mine. It's probably a good idea to see where the problem is since you should be flying.
I assume you upgraded the gfx driver with the AMD ones from thier site rather than rely on the Windows 10 one, if avalable. I use nVidia but always do a 'clean' install when I upgrade.
No I didn't upgrade, pointless. Sticking with 7 till either myself or it dies...
This is awesome! I had no idea that was out there. Suffering through wrong inputs on the ds4 was driving me crazy. Ty!!
I'm sure there will come a time when I actually need to upgrade, but right now there are things on my PC which apparently don't play nicely in Windows 10, so I'm not going to rush out and buy a copy.
1. Did you upgrade after the release of Windows 10? Yes.
2. Did the game start with zero issues? Yes.
3. Running DX11 version of the game just fine? Yes. (GeForce GTX 960)
4. Noticeable changes? Shiny and reflective floors.
5. Personal experience you would like to share about it? Not really. It is just slightly prettier.
Edit: 6. Did you follow up with a clean install after the upgrade? No.
Upgraded from win ultimate 7 64bit ot win 10 pro. Easy install. Had to redownload some drivers for network adapter and graphics card. Ran the updates for win 10 pro and game ran fine and its feels a bit smoother. U run the game in dx11.
My pc is built by me and is a few years old but i ditched the old hdds and ran with solid state. Its an ati build so nothing fancy.
I've been getting random occurrences of the game not crashing outright, but kicking me back to the desktop while continuing to run. I click the icon to bring the FFXIV window back up and I just get a black screen. But the game is still running (I can even do things even though I can't see). Eventually the game does crash, but I've gotten pretty good at doing a /shutdown and letting the program close gracefully while blinded.
My guess is the graphics cards are doing a hard reset and the game can't figure out how to keep going once that happens. I'm running an SLI configuration (two GTX 980s) and Windows 10. Anyone having troubles with Windows 10 and SLI?
Obviously you haven't taken the time to discover what's new in Windows 10, because the UI is WAY better than 7 or 8. Much more keyboard-friendly and quicker to navigate.
im haveing no probloms but i went from 8.1 to this so all it did was update what i already had i know some people who did clean installs are haveing probloms but im not at the moment
Heads up, known issue with HW, DX11 and R9 300 series cards.
Installed Windows 10 day of release, did not do a fresh install. Only driver I had to manually reinstall was my graphics driver. It is far better then windows 7, and lets be honest, windows 8 was a waste of time to begin with. (I did try it, uninstalled and have used windows 7 sense forever.) All my steam game, all 112 of them, are working fine. Im not sure why people are experiencing slow start ups or slow times opening apps, as I am not. It runs just fine and looks very clean. It's easy to use and still has all the technical stuff for people who like them, like me! XD
Upgraded to Windows 10 when I got the change and have seen a noticeable performance improvement. Did have a couple of issues. Print screen locking up my computer and Uplay doing the same. I fixed it with this:
In the "search the web and windows" type msconfig, select boot tab, advanced options, in the top left untick Debug. Then restart as prompted.
But there’s something you should know: Windows 10 is also spying on nearly everything you do.!!! you can google that its true :)
Microsoft 10 is a spy software and they dont tell that to users, they know when you start your computer! have fun with it but i stay on windows 7 ^^
And you know what? You can deactivate it!
-Cortana can be disabled
-No need of Microsoft Account
-Very Good Privacy Options to deactivate any spy function
And you know what? You can Google this from good sources and not the ones you used to freak out!
Every website knows as much as possible from you and if you are using iOS or Android on your mobile it is the same as W10 lol.... you are a real MVP
why would anybody install spyware like win10 is on your pc?
