Protect? Really important? Low level content

It looks like anybody who would get anything out of this thread has already and anybody left is too stubborn to see the points being made. It should be noted that any healer totally averse to dpsing will not be capable of doing progression content without the dps and tank being over geared (I don't think it is even progression content at that point) because SE has made it very clear that dps checks will require healers to dps. SE also released the AST which is a support healer and shows that SE understands what dps mitigation is. If you want to sit in dungeons and put forth no serous effort, then do it. But please stop telling everybody else, who've done their homework, that they are wrong.

For low level dungeons dps is a better form of mitigation than protect. You can do both but for decent healers it won't make a single difference and will make the run longer by having to wait for cooldowns. If you are a tank who is uncomfortable with this then please get more comfortable with it. If something goes wrong then take a minute to remember all of those many times that you messed up and be respectful.

@Lunaxia I suppose that I must, from now on, start all conversations with "I'm bad at healing ;)" or else somebody might think I'm ACTUALLY bad at healing before they've even observed what I can do. That is absurd and the idea that you said that says a lot more about how your mentality in a debate than your opinion or understanding of the subject matter. To be frank, your idea of what a healer is is woefully misconceived and shows a shallow understanding of the role. My job is never to give other people "peace of mind". Have you done hard content... at all? There isn't peace of mind but that doesn't mean that I've failed as a healer. My SOLE job as a healer is to make sure other people do not die, and if they do die, get them back up. A lot of people in this forum don't seem to understand that healing spells are only one part of our healer repertoire. My dealing damage ends fights sooner (btw, that damage is DEFINITELY not nothing. In these low level dungeons I have, on many occasions, put out the highest dps.). The sooner a fight ends, the sooner people stop taking damage. If people aren't taking damage, I don't need to cast a healing spell.

Well, this has been my issue with the topic from the start. You have people basically saying, "You need to do it my way or you're bad, regardless of effectiveness or the end result, and even when it doesn't matter." and usually all because of some preconceived notion of what "healers should do".

I do what Skapoc does. Move protect into first slot cast it and then replace it with my other important skills. Get Gud guys...come on. Think...LOL

It's all about being lazy. Why innovate, think outside of the box, or consider all of your options when you will be accepted by most groups for doing as little as you can possibly get away with? They are the same people who use "FFXIV isn't [insert MMO here]" when somebody asks for a quality of life change (or any change) and uses another MMO as an example, but they will blindly accept what other MMOs taught them about what the word "healer" means.

The arguments against healers dpsing have focused solely on the fact that "healer" and "dps" are not the same words. That is a kindergarten level understanding of a role that should embarrass anybody who uses it.

Blizzard II is really good on big mobs, when you get the chance to DPS. This is after bane-ing dots, Miasma II + Spirit Flare. A fine example is using Blizz II in A2, which can make a scholar's dps potentially hit 900 if the other healer (ideally WHM) is willing to solo-heal a huge chunk of the fight.

I never cross-class stoneskin for scholar. Because scholar's heals massively rely on their own (more efficient and faster casting) shields, it becomes somewhat useless. There IS the use of having an extra buffer on a tank before a huge pull, but tbh I'd rather have BlizzII in case I can dps, which can do massive damage on huge pulls.

The whole point here is you can have both and not have to sacrifice anything to do it. The tank should not have bailed on them but healers need to get their crap together and think of how to best support the party and not just half ass content whether it is just running dungeons or not. you should always be trying your best when playing with other people so that everyone's experience can be the best it can be.

Blizzard 2 is flawed in a way. It's only better than Broil when there are 4+ enemies and Aero when there are 5+ enemies. But when you have that many enemies you generally don't have time to do more than Miasma 2 after you Shadowflare and Bane, and by the time you do stabilize, you have to reapply dots or the mob shrunk so much that Blizzard 2 isn't worth using anymore.

Um two things here. So SE has actually said they tune all fights assume 0 healer dps. There is no accuracy on high level healer gear which means you miss quite frequently. I don't even think it's possible to hit the accuracy checks on current endgame content. You miss a good bit when you get into ex primals and alexander.

Secondly can we stop with the asinine hyperbole. To get protect in low level a healer literally gives up one weak dot, oh the horror. This is why people think the healers are bad, they are throwing an absolute temper tantrum over no having aero on their bar, or lolbliz 2. Gotta get my uber 50 potency out there or this run would take forever.

This just in guys: not using Protect obviously means you expend zero effort at healing :rolleyes:

Sorry, but when a SCH fairy can heal an entire dungeon by itself, that is usually a sign it's not very healing-intensive.

Not really important if you're SCH. I always put Cleric Stance on first bar of cross skill
