The pug weapons looks like magnet fists...
I actually really like the look of the weapons. I think they fit the Ifrit theme nicely. I guess that's the funny thing about art... its subjective...
I think the problem right now is the people who don't like it love to voice their opinion.
The game is undergoing a complete overhaul right now, the community said there was not enough colour in the game, and everything was really bland, and this is the start of the changes to that.
Also you say the weapons are not eorzean, but is ifrit directly from eorzea nope, he is summoned which could be why the weapons look differant, there are pages and pages of possible lore they could put into why all weapons dont look the same, or in FFXI are abyssea weapons bad designing because the dont look like there from Vana'diel?
If you don't like just craft the new Cobalt gear...geezus people...complaints getting old. Ifrit gear looks fine...epic chuckles of doom.
I always wondered why these supernatural creatures would have weapons and armor desiged for humans in the first place.
Ifrit would be like "Yes I have this incredibly powerful bow specifically designed for you mortals but NO YOU CAN'T HAVE IT YOU FOOLS. Me likez shiny stuff."
It's like with dragons and treasures. If I were a dragon I wouldn't hoard money in a cave and live in it. I'd have humans build me a giant aery with chocolate fountains. Honestly.
Anyway I think the weapons are fine, some of them could use a bit of downscaling though (like the bow).
Okay? Does this mean there is not even a slight possibility that they could perhaps go a little overboard in their crusade, and as such need the community to point out that they are taking things too far?
Expecting perfection right from the beginning is the flaw of this community. We do not criticize their inventions because we want them to fail, we criticize them because we want the game to become as good as it can be. Not as good as they can get it the first try around.
"The aggro icon is a bit too large." "The monster sizes are a bit too large." This is a continuation of that, and to tell you the truth, even though some people didn't "mind" the rather bulky aggro icon I find it much more appealing now that it has been slightly modified.
They look fine from what they come from, Ifrit. They're just Ifrit themed weapons and I don't understand why some of the playerbase is bitching and making a big deal out of it.

The spelling and punctuation mistakes in the title make me kind of annoyed. Am I bad person?
Also I think the weapons are mostly fine, these are after all, weapons from Ifrit. I dislike the fists some and feel the bow is clunky but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. The other weapons I think look pretty good though.
no one here is losing sleep over these weapons lol
the complaints are merely gut reactions. like you said i have no problem with any of them in terms of ugliness and silliness the thm takes the cake since it's obviously ifrit's dildo, but there are ugly items in the game already.
In terms of actual practicallity however the pgl weapons are the worst of all pgl weapons you physically can't hold those things by the handle because when you punch they will turn either up or down best you could do is grab one of the sides and slap your adversary with it. I know theres other pgl weapons like that but this one is far and beyond and i'm not talking about other pgl weapons.
The bow is an abhoration. Do we even know how bows work? energy from the bent bow is transferred to the string and then to the arrow. The less you can bend the bow the weaker it is. The physicist in me cries.
The weapons look BA! They could scale them down a bit but nothing worth loosing sleep over lol
Umm, Subjective stuff is subjective?
When Ifrit was born he was destined to become a prodigal craftsman. At the age of five he made his first glass castle. He was surprised by his immense skills after creating a sand castle at the beach. But through the process of vulcanization the sand turned into glass. Maybe he should have tried to make a glass slipper to fit the evil step sister as well. After going through magnet school for craftsmanship/sculpture, he decided to ask Michelangelo to take his as an apprentice. Thus began Ifrit's master craftsmanship in weapon making.
Yea, that didn't happen. He's a primal, don't expect his weapons to be the weapons of a revered knight with the most expensive and flashy armor. Though I don't know what people mean by poorly designed, they look pretty good.
I love how the new weapons look. :)
Just a bit of a nit-picky word choices here about the geography of Hydaelyn and Eorzea;
Eorzea isn't the continent. Eorzea is the country which consists of the city-states Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, Ul'dah, Ala Mhigo, Ishgard and Sharlayan. Regions Eorzea covers are La Noscea, the northern part of Vylbrand (O'Ghomoro is still unclear on whether it is the region's name or the volcano's), and in the continent of Aldenard; The Black Shroud, Thanalan, Mor Dhona, Coerthas, Gyr Abania, Xelphatol, Dravania and Paglth'an as well as numerous small islands. Land masses which Eorzea expands over are the island Vylbrand as well as the continent Aldenard.
So just be sure to make Eorzea a country, as Eorzea is not the continent. It's easy to mix them up, so just be wary. :D
Otherwise, I agree with you, Arcell. On nearly all your posts. And those who somehow think that a higher diety's weapon drops will resemble those which are crafted by a mortal's hand are truly ignorant of the hierarchy which surrounds the typical balance of high-end dieties with low-end mortals.
A bow is a flexible arc that shoots through elastic or spring energy. Essentially, the bow is a form of spring powered by a string or cord. As this string is drawn, energy is stored in the flexible limbs of the bow equally; the energy is transferred to the arrow when the string is released, projecting it much farther than a weapon could be thrown.

Hooke's Law states that the extension of a spring is in direct proportion with the load applied to it. But beyond that there are practical limitations depending depending on the specific case. In the case of a bow depending on the material it may snap if its pulled back too far. Also, you cannot pull the arrow back farther than its head or you will not be able to control it's horizontal direction, most people might agree that if our char. pulled their arrows back 6 inches behind the bow-as subtle as it may be-it would look completely silly.
This bow in particular contains incredibly dense and organic mass assuming it comes from ifrit, therefore, it's elasticity should be reasonably high but so is the force required to bend it. Therefore, the bow would shoot incredibly strong if there were someone strong enough to actual arch it to its optimal position (unlikely even if you assume your char is as strong as an elephant).
The point is moot however as the difference in density from top to bottom means that the bow will always shoot upward higher than your aim.
It's not so much that it's ugly as much as that it's just a crumby bow. Fancy though i guess like shoes.

Nice post. Though honestly I think that the elastic part of the top is similar to the bottom side. The dense part of the top is separated from the elastic part, so really it would only make it weigh more(Unless there is something about archery that I do not know which would affect there being more weight at the top).

better example

whats funny is no one is trying to argue about the realism of Archers shooting one arrow up into the air with dozens magically raining down on enemies.
in Eorzea, weight is no matter as weapons will come in all shapes and sizes, also, all arrows always shoot straight forward but instead of actually missing like they would in real life, they dissappear and a message pops up informing you. (this was all light sarcasm)
the weapons are generally not bad looking and i think its the incorrect attitude to expect a fantasy game to ONLY cater to realism especially when the games history and title incorporate a large amount of fantasy.
if she was shooting arrows with the arrows pointed backwards then i think itd be time for people to start to complain about realism issues.
some realism might stick out more so than others but these weapons fit the over all look of the entire franchise and also the games future.
Topic started by a person with his main class fisher 50.
I dont need to say anything else.
lol I'm not trying to say that SE should change the weapons I'm just pointing some stuff out based on my reactions. It's like I said it wouldn't make sense to anyone if the game made you pull your arrow back 6 inches behind your bow. That's a generalized case that anyone will understand so maybe you understand what other people feel when they think that some graphic models in the game make no sense.
Again not personal, game. I am well aware.
i wouldnt doubt it. but also people with money who are into fashion. those are Alexander Mcqueen spring 2010.
not that i give a damn, im just saying veriety is great and elaborate designs can fit in in all environments. those are worn at galas with other people dressed in million dollar outfits.
Game should have more weapons and looks from FF12 & FFT. It has alot of Judgemasters in FFXIV why not...
Not only but the bow can also be used as a hat. =)
you guys are dumb, talking about how you need to figure out the art style of this. i dont know who you trolls think you are but i would bet 90% of you are not designers, or artists, (game profession) so if your gonna complain about perfectly good stuff like you guys always do, dont try to act like you can do a better job and and say it doesnt fit the art style.
i AM a 3D artist, and i personally think these weapons look amazing, and cant wait to get them.
and i would also like to mention if i was on that team and put out those awesome weapons, with the response you guys are giving, i would not be motivated to provide you with anything you actually want.
so i guess the main point im trying to make is, i hate you all... the trolls at least
