Huton? Is that some type of cake?
it's honestly something i was really worried about with the release of the class. if you mess up a jutsu, it is very punishing. you really can't even play your class if you cannot memorize the combinations for 3 jutsu.
the lower skillcap on class comprehension is one of the reasons why i really like Final Fantasy XIV, so i was a little surprised that something like mudras made it into the game - they are very unique in that they are something that adds an untrending layer of complexity to the class.
I always use Huton.
Dear tanks....
can you please start pulling faster! stop wasting Ninjas' Huton by doing nothing in front of the boss and does that useless ready check.
thank you.
Personally I've always wondered why people start their short-term buffs while standing there at the door in the first place. When I play the occasional DPS, I never put on a single buff until the boss is pulled and the fight is underway. That way regardless of the speed of the party, I get the most out of my skills. As a main healer, it fucking bugs the crap out of me when the other healer stands there and pops off Succor/Galvanize when we're still gathering and preparing to fight. The damned regen buff that results from it last like 20 seconds and you wasted half of that at least IF the tank is a fast puller. If no one pulls, you just wasted the buff entirely. This I see a LOT at S-Rank hunts and in WoD. Other healer pops off regens and they are gone before we even start to fight, then we start and you now have to wait for cool downs.
I personally do not mind if the tank goes at his own speed. I'd rather have a tank that knows their limits than one that shows off and gets the party wiped all the time. But even if you have a speed puller tank, don't waste your stacks or cool downs intil you are actually IN the fight.
haha. Yeah I get that a lot. It's one of those puns people have to think about for a bit before they get it :)
Regen buff? Also, most fights, except on the tank, the buff from Succor does drop off on its own regardless. The trick is either knowing when to pre-cast it and/or using the shield as protection from anything following up the first AoE. I rarely precast Succor and mean it. Even Adloquium I don't tend to pre-cast much. Right after the pull and after Virus, sure, but before, not really.
I swear on wod runs some ninjas and bards troll me. here comes that juicy foes with battle voice at the start of the fight, i decided to pimp out with raging strikes, then the ninja decides ha have a 10% extra damage increase. Then flare crits. Tears run down my eyes of the awesome big numbers that scroll up. and then I die because the boss is not having any of it. X.X
Any Ninja worth his salt will use Huton before the fight starts, Ninjutsus are on a 20 second cooldown.
You'd obviously want to have the Huton buff up pre fight so you can use an offensive Jutsu right when the Cooldown is up again instead of wasting that time to buff yourself infight when you could've used an actual damaging skill.
Huton can't be compared with any of the buffs you mentioned, you want it up 100% of the time and before a pull, to utilize a Ninja to it's full potential it's best to engage a boss 15 seconds after the use of Huton.
This will not only Increase the damage of the Ninja but of the whole party with 10% more damage against the boss with everyones buffs in use.
Doing so helps a great deal to push or even skip phases and is especially useful in progress.
Ninjas sound complicated. I did some reading (I do not have a Ninja, myself. Just a Rogue but he has yet to do anything Nina) and I guess these Ninjutsus (spelling?) are a series of buttons pressed per buff/skill/action? Sounds obnoxious. My standing on the prefight buffs was based on playing SCH as healer and BRD for DPS. Single click buffs, etc, so I can definitely see where some frutration would come into play for Ninjas.
I guess if I was a Ninja and i was with a tank that went slow and did ready checks, I'd start my buff during the ready check?
Huton has a 70 second buff duration. Using it pre-fight still gives it plenty of uptime once the battle starts, unlike other DPS buffs. It's better to pre-cast and already have Huton running so that you can cast another Ninjutsu (such as Suiton) once the fight has started.
Mudras (the combos needed for Ninjutsu) really aren't that difficult. I like how it works. The only pesky part is when latency causes lag when making a combo.
Greased Lightning is an exception to this. GL is built up during combat, and wears off pretty quickly if not sustained through continued combat. A MNK is at their best when combat is pretty much constant and continuous. While it is to be understood that there are times when a healer needs to recover MP or whatever, when a tank seems to be derping around for no good reason when they could be pulling, it can be very aggravating for a MNK who'd prefer to dive in and start punching.
The amount of damage per second lost between a MNK going into the fight already pumped up with three stacks and going into a fight having to rebuild their GL from scratch is quite significant. This isn't a "buff they cast while standing at the door", it's a buff leftover from the previous fight - which COULD continue on into the next fight, if the tank is snappy!
NOTHING IS BETTER THAN THE BUNNY!
except maybe

some WoD raiders are so horrible. like tanks who can't even tank the first mini-boss room and white mages who don't use Medica II or Regen.
probably because SE nerfed every post 50 dungeons and trials so new players don't know what are they supposed to do.
Dear ninja <3,
I would have to be a raving loon to pull a boss without at least looking behind me to make sure everyone is ready. I understand the logic behind speed runs, but pulling as fast as i can to make sure you never start a fight without buffs is redeculous. ask a drg or a monk about starting a big pull or a boss without buffs. sometimes life hands you lemons and you make some (slightly) lower dps-aid. the damn dungeon only takes 20 minutes tops even pulling slowly.
I feel your pain but there is only so much headlong rushing i can do, especially if the whm is waiting on bene and my hallowed is down etc. lots of things happening during a run. Ive tried keeping the pulls up for a monks GL once. Once. just not worth the trouble. so i balance it instead. I dont know about standing there and staring off into space though to be fair, so maybe im just missing your point. if so i am sorry. most tanks i run with pull at top speed, split the pulls in random, stupid places, and rush headlong through the mobs, whether they can handle them or not.
the amount of sluggish tanks is too damn high!!
why do they need a short break between each pull? please stop messing up with DPS buffs.
This whole thread is one of the many reasons why I'm so disgusted with humanity in general... We've got people from both sides continuously arguing about how each and every little detail should be handled, never once realizing that different people do different things... and resort to insulting each other over every damn response ever.
Seriously, someone just lock or delete this thread. It's too vitriolic.
EDIT: The thread didn't start out too bad, but the direction it took... At this point, at least just let the thread die if not locked or deleted.
EDIT 2:
I actually didn't know about this until I read this post and then poked around in the Character Config menu some more and found it. At this point though, I'm so used to holding R1 and flipping through hotbar sets with the buttons on the fly that I don't really need to do that yet. I may need to do that though come Heavensward...
when ur tank sits still outside of a boss until the EXACT second u re-apply huton so ur ninjutsu is on cd and u no longer have an optimal opener and ur like,
"tanks obama"
I hope your joking, but incase you are not...
I just started a mrd/war alt. Though I'm only at lvl 24 so far, I have come to the realization that I go through tp FAST. so I'm assuming most of them(I know I do it)
Stop for a couple seconds to get tp. I mean, unless you'd rather them run out and then no way to hold hate then you all die
Was in a dungeon other day, tank made big pulls. Sweet! I lay down circle, buff myself and start spamming blossom . . . . tank moves them over and out. ??? I'm like /sigh
Next big pull, he does it again. I'm like "Tank! Why u do dis???" /cry
Also, I was told that nin's aoe damage is worthless . . . as I'm playing nin and doing well over 600 dps aoe (according to my abicus ;p). It may not be as good as blm or whm, but it's not worthless.
*laughing at the fact that killing a boss five seconds faster is a big deal*
