New Race Announced! The Au Ra

Dont know why people keep complaining sexist. Its sexual dimorphism. People keep bringing up the other races how they have similar builds well, there you go, doesnt kill you to have ONE race where there is a noticeable difference in body stature.

Overall I like them, I was expecting something more lizardlike but I like this. I like playing beast hybrid races but not catgirls because they're so overdone. I might change to these depending on if I can make the face like my hyur's...hyurs are boring and I really hate the midlander run so I'd be glad to get rid of it without being a race that towers over my miqo'te husband...but I've been midlander since 1.0 alpha, feels weird to think of changing now

I love the look of this new race, but I like my Miqote too....omg decisions.

And my miqo would look more fabulous in astrologian gear...

I love the males~ They have the build of males that I feel was really lacking. Strong but sleek. I can't get enough of watching them move. Such power to their movement. Can't wait to see how tall they are in comparison to my Roegadyn girls.

I was really hoping for taller girls, but I knew better than to hope too much... Yugiri is tiny.

*Sigh* Can I get my ladies build like Viera someday? I don't want them covered in fur, I just want a more sleek femme than the Roe's but with a stronger form than the Elezen, and taller than Highlanders please~

I am absolutely disappointed at the size difference between the males and the females... Japan's obsession with "Kawaii" is quite overbearing at times. I'm sure our overseas friends will enjoy the females greatly... but as for some of us not so attuned with Kawaii-ism... it'll be a bit of a let down.

Nevertheless, it might grow on me in the end.

This really sucks to say but you know damn well they don't. Outside of a small number of us, most zerg through the story, skipping cutscenes and very important and engaging dialogue to unlock the latest primal ex/endgame. Only to make learning parties and 2 days later have a l33t attitude in the pf. Thats unfortunately a majority of the player base's mindset.

I for one LOVED the story arc in 2.4. It got me very excited about whats to come in the expansion. It made me feel like its right around the corner! :)

It would have been nice if there was more difference between the clans/tribes than just skin/scale color. Like, if one clan/tribe was tall and imposing while the other was elegant and petite (like how Hyuran clans have more differences). Would solve the issue of extreme sexual dimorphism (and give both genders the option to play what they like). Also, I hope we'll have scale options instead of just having patchwork scales throughout.

Despite liking how Au Ra look, I am disappointed that FFXIV decided to go with extreme sexual dimorphism instead of utilizing their clan/tribe dualism if they wanted strong/pretty race.

Oh well, if their animations are better than Midlander, I'll Fantasia into one.

And she's right. What else do you expect from a japanese developed game?. I like the new race too, I don't mind how people likes to say "It is hyur based", "Oh, look, elezen + horns". If they'd add a race with wolf ears and tail they'll say the same and that we have a lot in the game, fox ears and tail? the same....

But, if they want something more.... Bestial, furry, there are other games for it.. (God, I really disliked the no-cuteness of WoW...Whenever I remember Tauren, orcs, etc...I want to go to any of the imperial bases and make a massacre of garleans.)

BTW.... DRG AURA.... That's going to be fun.

However...
I do believe we've been shown both tribes and I am quite dissapointed that they, much like the other tribes, clearly suffer from "Same Face" syndrome. Barely noticeable eyes and blue skin does not a great difference make.
I'd think something with greater range, like the Midlanders and Highlanders would have been nice
And this is coming from someone who plays the softer looking races, ie Midlander over Highlander.

This was only because some problems during the one-time character recreation at the first login.

The females look very adorable and I love the new hairstyle. The male would look just as epic, if only the their faces have a bishounen option.

I think this race will go quite well glamored with my behemoth mask :)

Padjal are not a own race. They are just ageless hyurs, touched by elementals ^^. And exist since the foundation of Gridania.
And Miqo'te are in Eorzea since the 5th umbral era (wandered over the frozen oceans before they reached Eorzea). Enough time to accept them.

And yes, there could be a problem if the Ishgardians know that a dragonkin work for the people in Revenant's Toll. So she hide her face until it get solved in the coming main story.

They look ok. Bit disappointed they're not fully scaled but I'll take 'em. I'm also a bit relieved now knowing I definitely will be staying Roe.

I for one love the new race and will be switching day one. The female is everything I ever wanted in a playable race. When I first began playing this game, I wanted elegance so I was an Elezen female. I liked her I guess, but she lacked something, she wasn't cute, she was elegant and pretty sure but I wanted some CUTENESS. So I switched to midlander hyur female. Once again, I liked her I guess, she had cuteness but all the elegance was gone and I was overwhelmed by their ridiculous SKIP of a walk, flailing their arms about in front of them like idiots.

In the end the cute won over the elegance, but the HORRIBLE midlander run animation and sheer lack of grace and beauty has always hit a sore spot with me, I've never been fully happy with my character. I longed to be able to play the Padjal race, as Kan-E Senna was both graceful and adorable, but the lore instantly shut down that ever happening.

But I've been given the next best thing in the Au Ra! They are absolutely beautiful while still being cute, and don't have a ridiculous stupid SKIP for a run. I will fantasia day 1 and never look back. Thank you SE, I will finally have my perfect race.

I believe ppl will mistake her for some succubus spawn rather then a Dragon hybrid.

I'm bit disappointed with the females. Didn't Yugiri say stuff like she wasn't ready to show her face because how people might find it disturbing or something the like? From what I see, that's barely different from a padjal. I was hoping for something like this:

I agree, from what we've seen the Au Ra females don't even seem to have scales on their faces. Showing her face would hardly disturb people.

Who is to say we wont also get more reptilian face styles, or different placements for the scale patches?
Until we see the full range of creation options, we wont be able to say for sure. Maybe Yugiri got a bit too much Dragon in her.

That's the thing though, it's a mere teaser with preset characters. We don't know what other face options etc. will look like. I'd say it's quite possible there will be a more fierce, if you will, option for the females that might have scales for example. We'll find out in 2.5 I'm sure. :P

Just rewatched the Au Ra video from this thread {http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/210223-For-those-who-missed-the-FF-vids}
if you look closely, the female Au Ra actually has scales on her neck and her forehead.
The horns also seem to be quite visible, even from the front.

They don't have ears?

SE has to design for the majority of players and potential players. They also have to take into consideration cultural preference/bias. Being a Japanese game the designers all have their cultural preference, everything in manga, anime and game character design coming out of Japan should have shown you how this was going to play out.

SE is looking to get FFXIV going in China and so when you take asian cultural views into consideration Chinese/Japanese/Korean the Au Ra pretty much fit what you would expect, more human looking than beast/dragon. Come on all you disappointed people Japan and South Korea consider themselves each to be homogeneous societies. What you see as a minor difference between the in-game races is actually huge to the designers.
