-_- thats a joke right... You been here to long... you.. 2.0... 1 year... How about us players that have been lv50 on all jobs for 4 YEARS!!... What about us 1.0 players?..
OK... i drop... what 200k and I got it done easy... My wife.. was 170kish... Im not seeing this crazy gil you'r talking about.. you don't need to be rich to mald a 10 I and 10 II to a weap...20-30k pre stat? give or take a few k. Bigger you're server the lower it is bc of more SB players/sellers
wait.. so we need other to help us O.o i soloed up to all the way form relic rank 1 to my 75Alx in 2-3weeks -_-; and my char is 5weeks old O.o and I'm on a small server.. what so hard about this relic quest..and i work 40+ hrs a week and get maybe 4-5hr on weekday to play... so im so lost as to way player QQ over something so easy! try farming one in XI 6-7 years ago then we can talk about hard ><
TBH this lastest quest is the more approachable of all. You not only get you weapon but get to cap solds and poets faster and get some money out of it.
I'm pleased with this lastest grind if you ask me. Roll on next quest 135
The relics in XI also remained relevant for years. Here in XIV you're lucky if you get a couple weeks out of your relic before you either loot a better weapon or a new tier is released.
Hilarious thing is we all KNOW that the final tier of the relic will come out just before the expansion ups the level cap and renders the entire relic chain obsolete.
The amount of use you get out of these relics is NOT worth the time investment at all. A lot of people try to make out that they're 'casual' weapons but they're not even that. It's easier to get tomestone weapons than relics now and no casual can do this quest because they could never keep up with the release of new tiers. These relics are nothing but a hardcore grind for a cosmetic weapon skin... and now that we've seen the final models and most agree that they're utter garbage compared to the original models the entire quest chain is pointless for a lot of people.
It isn't obsolete; it remains a relevant weapon to do the current tier of content with. You have to clear T12+ to get something better, and that also costs 3 weeks worth of poetics.
I have no idea from where people get that 135 is the end of it. Have you thought that it could carry on on the next expansion?why will it stop? A lot of people jumping on baseless conclusions. I'm gonna laugh hard when the expansion comes and there's a new quest for the zodiak weapon
Probably because Yoshi said that this quest line ends in 3.0. It makes little sense for them to release an expansion (and attract players to come back) only to drop this grind on them before they can work on the new weapon.
It's not a very interesting "quest" I mean quests have stories and lore to keep a player engaged and excited; the Zodiak is more of a grind simulator.
It's entirely possible that those who have completed this weapon will get a jump start, but it would be a grievous design error to require the full completion of the zodiac weapon from the start to even begin the 3.0 weapon line.
It's just to much of light required for those of us not wanting to farm it. I've had novus pre patch and have too today accumulated around 900 light. From regular play(i.e. DRs and other stuff) and 2 1h bright window farms(which at most got me 100-120 light) that I don't plan to do EVER again(my brain is still in a melted state after those). I wish there were some other options for light as well. Or maybe add a bit of rng to open world mobs so that 1% of them will give you some light. This could help people that spiritbond or do beastmen dailies get a bit as well.
Yes, but it was still faction leves. A content that got reused for the relic quest.
And yes, it would be really nice if the drop chance of the zodiac key items also increase the less time you need in the dungeon ^^
Or a point system, like in Hamlet Defence. Where specific things give you points, like open all chests, the time to kill the first 2 boss monsters, the time to finish the dungeons, how many party members die, /psych to every party member at the start, /laugh to the endboss and so on
The entire Relic line from the very beginning is nothing but glorified grinding. "I need X to make your relic weapon, oh wait I need another X, oh wait you need to get an Item from a boss, oh wait you need to get another Item from a boss, oh wait you I need you to kill X amount of fodder, oh wait I need you to meld materia, oh wait you need you to take down these Primals too!" And it only gets worse to upgrade it.
There really isn't any storyline from what I can see, and if there is one, it's overshadowed by the huge amount of grinding.
The very first steps to get the actual relic was fun though. Even doing it on other jobs, I still enjoy it because the progress was measurable and it mixed in a bit of variety (5 Trials, 1 Dungoun, 30 mobs)
Now it's just "Grind until you get lucky enough to get the drop" or "Spam dungouns until you've built enough 'light'"
that's my big issue with it. I just got my nexus and am working on my ZodiDorks right now. But I can't help but be dissapointed. When I got my Relic weapon for the first time in 2.0, it felt like a huge reward/accomplishment. I felt -great-. Now I just feel like another grind is completed. Meanwhile I feel great when I clear coil, because it was a challenge and not having me do dated content with overgear.
Personally I stopped at the books for the Animus quest and will never touch the relic quests again.
The first relic quest was nice: it was varied, required clearing a few somewhat challenging fights and gave you a real feeling of progress; I eventually did it for every job.
Then the Atma quest came out and, as someone who hates senseless RNG, at first I thought it was hell and just gave up on it for some time, but when I picked it up later it wasn't as awful as I expected: I just did random FATEs while travelling through different areas and without forcing myself to farm... Sometimes it was even nice to do them solo or with just a few people and, even if it took some time, I eventually did it without too much stress.
But asking me to repeat the same old, mindless, crappy contents from one and a half years ago another thousand of times? No freaking way, especially when it's for a weapon that becomes obsolete within a month or two after each new step comes out.
Somehow I am getting a strange feeling...
How the quest was set up with finishing zodiac it seems you no longer try to "reforge" a weapon...
Next step may be to upgrade it differntly, could be with adding stuff like feeding a chocobo...
From the info we have so far, if they really stop the questline with 3.0 i can imagine we reached our limit with "upgrading" it and it becomes like a souleater where it grows with our own strenght, no longer bound to this physical world...
There is much room for speculations!
I think in the future we might just be reforging Zodiac weapons again:

Kind of actually makes it sound like they always intended for Relics to be glorified glamour pieces... He talks solely about special graphics, not special stats...Quote:
Chuki : In the PDF, you said that Excalibur is a legendary weapon but that its appearance may change. What did you mean?
Naoki Yoshida : The reason behind the whole idea, I think Final Fantasy XI had the same problem, but because it’s a MMO, it’s difficult to bring these legendary, traditional weapons as additional items, for example, the Genji set, or Excalibur, Ragnarok… that kind of very important items which you saw in previous Final Fantasies. When you bring it to a MMO, the power level will always increase, for example, if I do bring the whole Genji set in the next raid, as a reward you can get in the raid, in a one year time, there’s going to be a stronger raid, and you’re going to need stronger items. And the people will be saying “the Genji set in Final Fantasy XIV is just a really weak rip-off!”. We don’t want to give that different impression while it’s supposed to be a legendary item, we don’t want to make it weak in MMO just because it’s a MMO. That’s why I decided to make this new system for Final Fantasy XIV.
Instead, of course, we can’t just keep Genji set off the game until it is old enough, because that’s not the whole point. We are going to divide Final Fantasy XIV in seasons, that might be one year or two years, we carefully see how the game balance is moving forward. But within these seasons, I want to make the players able to apply for these legendary items, in order to register for your own special item. For example, for the Grand Company, if you have a sword with like, level 30 strength and level 40 piety, and you have a weapon that matches that, then you can apply for the Excalibur. And in the case you have it, you will have special graphics for your new Excalibur.
But then, for example, in another year time, when the whole game is going to be even more difficult and complicated, we’ll be changing the rules of what can be called Excalibur. Then, you have to apply again to have the new graphics for this new Excalibur, there’s always going to be different types of Excaliburs, maybe having like a Legendary Season. For the next rule, you might have to work close with the crafters who can use Materia to make the new weapon so you can have a cooperation. We really want it to be like a Final Fantasy special item, to be part of this legacy item.
I'm getting my Zodiac weapon, still working on doing the dungeons and collecting the soldiery needed. But I also don't devote every day to it. I've only really worked on it for like 2-4 days since the patch and not all of those days were soley dedicated to doing the Zodiac quest. I feel like even though I haven't really devoted a ton of time to it I have still managed to complete a decent chunk of the requirements 6/16 dungeon drops, 3/4 cores, 1/4 waters, all of the purchaseable npcs items that I know about. Plus I have 2/8 needed HQ crafted items I bought off a friend who's a crafter (and owes me quite a bit, so I bought them relatively cheap and didn't pay for mats).
I'd say I've reasonably completed 1/3 or more of the things I need to do. Should have it finished before Christmas.
People who stress about how difficult this is (it's not) are rushing to get it completed and getting frustrated when things don't go their way.
Maybe I've got decent luck. It took me like a week to get all my atmas back when that stage was introduced, while I've read of other folks who spent 3+ months trying to get them.
I'll be doing it all over again for Dark Knight after 3.0, but that's probably the only other job I'll ever go all the way with the relic on.
People who are or have completed Novus and higher on 5+ jobs are crazy imo.
Well in the long run what the zodiak quest does in put people in que for 40-50 range dungeons similar to the atma books which actually help the population similar to the materia prices being boosted for the novus step. Because beyond the dedicated grind parties people will que up normally for them which in turn helps the leveling population. The planning behind forcing players to eventually help other players is well done and something that should be praised even if you hate them for it. Even the soldiery bonus while technically being abused is assisting other players for their personal benefit. Some one is playing the fiddle very very well.
Is there even a point to this? The instant the Atma quest was detailed before it even came out, I decided that I would simply ignore it, and I have.
even when Atma was new, there were still the EX Primal weapons and Coil drops. Now there are Levi, Ramuh and Shiva drops, as well is ironworks and whatever in the new coil drops.
I think it's literally only there to give grind-lovers something to do. I've never seen the point to it. Even at its highest upgrade, the relic weapons are at best only a point or two better than whatever the highest primal/coil drop is. I'd much rather beat a primal and get a drop then grind my face off on some KMMO type crap.
And I love square for that. There are just 2 different paths, luckly one is not preferred over the other. One is 100% RNG grind, other is skill-based with a much lower RNG factor.
I love my relic weapons.
It's been fun getting them and challenging although granted a lot of work. I'm working on my 3rd Nexus (need 900 light) and will have my BLM Lilith Rod soon. I only have one more dungeon to do (Qarn HM) and about 1450 tomes. I will also be working on my Yoichi Bow soon although I won't rush it. it'll just be something I put some effort toward each day when I have the time.
Well, depending where the player is in coil progression if the player does it, getting a i125 weapon can help the group out. Considering you need to clear T11 and save up 3 weeks worth of poetics to get a weapon that is only i120 with non-customizable stats, and only one player can get an encrypted tomestone per week, depending on how fast you can get the zodiac, it can help. Especially if you are going to be one of the last people to get the tomestone.
The ilvl on the zodiac is relatively high with that in mind.
the whole quest line after Zenith is a pile of garbage. when I want to play the game I want to be entertained, not being suffered.
how can game developers forget about such a basic thing to make a good game like this?
Here is what frustrates me. My main is SCH and I play as WHM and WAR when times call for it. Luckily, SCH and WHM share the same armor so I don't have to buy two different sets for them. Since SCH is my main I decided to do the relic quest line for the weapon. I'm currently on the alexandrite phase. Here are the things that frustrate me. My WHM who is currently using his Zenith weapon and with the same gear is only 2 or 3 ilvls behind my SCH, who I have put many hours of work into. I've been farming Shiva EX I've done about 14 runs for my WHM weapon upgrade. No matter if I do 5-20 more runs it will have taken me 1/10th the time to get WHM a higher ilvl.
I thought the relic versions were suppose to be for casual players. I play far less often on WHM and its already going to pass my job which I play most often. It's the same thing with WAR. I've just been using gear I get randomly and it is creeping up to the ilvl of my SCH. The upgraded Shiva weapon bumped him up pretty quick. I have no want to switch from SCH from being my main. What I will probably end up doing is getting the Shiva book and 'casually' working on my relic. I guess the point I'm making in this, and I know it will make endgamers angry, is that with all the work put into the relics they really should be BiS.
Just finished my Excalibur and i came to conclusion that it will indeed get upgraded in expansion(maybe sooner), because theres no more relic to upgrade as its now legendary instead. Mutamix actually converted your relic to get black materia for that legendary, so current step is pretty much full reset thus making it like original ilvl80 relic. I can totally see new questline to get current weapon when expansion comes, and those who has it already will get small headstart.
Sooooo much effort and time for just 1 small upgrade on 1 weapon... is it really that worth?
Why people do that? o.O
I mean those weapons on the tome shop for just 1300Soldy-tomes + UAT + 1 time sand = lv110 weapon = Fast and with 100% chance to get!
Personally... I've been enjoying the hell out of speedrunning these dungeons without a level sync in place. To each their own.
Just a quick thought. Maybe after you've unlocked the quest for Atma and Alexandrite they should drop from Fates no matter what job you are. That way you can level other jobs and get something out of them other than the tiny amount of GC seals.
You are on a healer, you get instant Q's; I did farm relics on XI... At least the community wasn't so shut into their tight little static groups within FC groups. I also work 40+ hours a week, but I don't spend the rest of my day playing the game. I am not saying it is difficult, just that it goes much quicker, and smoother, literally becoming a one day event, if you have people to non-stop grind with you.
As weird as it sounds, I do it for fun and to be able to say I got it. Also, it may be upgraded to ilv135 sometime soon, and that would make it BIS since we got to choose the stats. On top of that healers are always the last in my static to get their tome weapons upgraded, since it benefits the group the least. As for T13 weapons, that's up to RNG. The weapon I want may never drop. Knowing my statics luck, we will probably get ten DRG weapons before anything else drops. lol.
On the bright side - the rewards are more worthwhile than what people got for completing all of the beast tribe quests (a lot of work involved when you total it all).
I'm pretty sure they wont add a higher iv or some sort of content besides t13 that drops ilv135 weapons before they upgrade the relic. I'll take that gamble any day.
For example the novus was bis before final coil came out. Only shortly, but it was nice to switch to it. I loved the look of my high allagan but I wasn't thrilled with it's stats.
