Glamours and Gear Preview (03/20/2014)

Glamours limited to level 50 is the most arbitrary restriction of this whole system. I already knew this was designed with end-game play in mind, but this is ridicolous. People will have to level all the way up if they want to stop looking like a clown. This is so ridicolous I didn't even expect it.

Its not limited to ONLY level 50's, just unlocked once one job hits 50. Just like how you dont get dye till 15, or chocobos till you join a GC or able to call out the chocobo in combat till 30. Once unlocked, you can use it on a level 1 job.

Do you realize that someone who hasn't reached level 50 with any class yet (new players, people who are levelling a lot of alt classes at the same time) will be locked out of this system for no good reason? This is a vanity system. It doesn't affect gameplay in the slightest. It shouldn't be level locked, the same way dyes shouldn't either.
At least if the requeriment was a level 15 quest then it would be consistent with the already implemented systems. Right now this is just taking the system hostage because lollol.

Whatever, I don't care. This system might as well not exist for me.

For how long, one week? One month if they play very little.

You'd have a point if it was something requiring i70, i80 or i90 lv average. But wtf is it with people saying lv 50 is some unattainable ideal? FC large house is unattainable, lv 50 is the BASIC thing to do endgame at all.

It took me a long time to get my 1st 50 but I still don't really think it's that bad it's a level 50 quest. I'd have wasted so much gil if I'd had access to this system at a lower level. I know I spent an obscene amount of money dying armor that I ended up throwing away a few days later while I was levelling.

A separate rule should exist for items that take up more than one slot. Otherwise stuff like the 4-slot odin armor goes from "it might be useful for vanity" to "you might as well /toss the odin mantles".

as previously mentioned... lv50 is reasonable accessible to anyone. if you want to talk about inaccessible, go complain about housing prices

I disagree too, but level 50 should be reachable in such little time I don't think that bad of a problem. If anything it might serve as motivation to get someone to level their first class to 50 right away.

I don't understand why we should have to level to 50 to access vanity systems. I really don't. So what if it's reachable "easily"? Maybe I've got characters who I'm kinda taking my time on, poking around every so often with and who I'd like to dress up but can't because... apparently not being level 50 means they're cut out of the vanity system. And then there's situations like the one with my MRD alt. I absolutely detest the outfit she has right now (well, mostly the massive pants that, on highlander women, make their thighs look ten times bigger than they should), so much so that it's killed my motivation to play her. If I could glamour away those pants into something I actually like... I'd actually want to play her.

There is no reason for restricting access to vanity behind a level 50 quest wall. None. It is 100% arbitrary.

This takes the fun out of buying a body piece or robe, dying it pink, and reselling on the market boards. Oh, the looks of surprise and shame I imagined after the purchases were worth the gil...

There is also no reason to rage over this kind of things, you will get 50 very fast. Is it silly the devs put lv50 quest wall? There's one thing I'm missing. We will need particular glamour prisms to cast this "spell", but ...

Will we really need to purchase a prisms for each single gear we want to change? I understood that these prisms will be available via crafting, so there will not be any NPC shop selling them: I'm afraid of the price crafters will be selling them at. I know that this is the way "the game economy" works, but the more I read about this vanity system, the more I just wish they didn't come up with something so complicated.

It will be probably like dyes all crafters will be able to do the prisms.
The 1st ones made will be expensive but then it will all go down. Depends on what is needed to craft it.

We have a perfectly good reason to voice our displeasure over SE making an idiotic move like this.

A vanity system is usually something EVERYONE has access to as soon as they get to whoever can teach them to use the vanity system or they get to an npc who does the vanity junk. TERA lets you vanity as soon as you get to Velika (or the other two major cities), which could be level 11 or even level 1, if you have a teleport scroll, for example. An older game I played let you vanity things as soon as you could find a player with the appropriate skill for it. I have NEVER seen a vanity system of all things locked behind a ridiculous restriction like this.

If it was level 15, then sure. Dye quest is level 15, and that isn't all that problematic, you can hit 15 within a day or two AND it's a reasonably low level to access something like dyes. But locking a vanity system tons of people have been looking forward to since 2.0 behind the LEVEL CAP? How does that make any sense? How is that fair to anyone? As Naunet said, why should people be forced to get to level cap JUST to access something as bloody simple as a VANITY SYSTEM, which has NO gameplay advantage nor any fathomable reason to be locked behind level 50. It isn't like you won't be able to use level 50 gear or lower to vanity over endgame gear once you hit 50, so why restrict it like this for lower level players? Why do they need to be forced to rush to end game just so they can enjoy a VANITY system?

And before someone says "well they don't HAVE to use it", yes they don't, but what if they WANT to? What if they want to be able to wear nice outfits they got while leveling while they're lower level? Why should they be excluded from this? SE's choice makes absolutely no sense, though I don't know why I'm surprised. They've been making a lot of bad choices for a while now.

Why shouldn't I protest a system that I feel could use improvement? That's how we get a better product. Saying nothing is worse than potentially overreacting in this case.

As I've said before, it doesn't matter how quickly it takes to get to 50, especially when being unable to change the look of my gear on certain characters is actually disincentivizing me from playing them entirely.

While it does make for messy on the fly glamor, and preview is a little rough, it's all backend. You just don't feel giving gil to crafters, stop whinning.

If they made it like materia, then a higher grade can be substituted in event you don't have a lower grade available.

Or, like myself, I LIKE to level sloooowly (yes I'm in the minority these days I know), so unlocking one lvl 50 character's gonna take me awhile :) I don't mind working for stuff, but locking the the content until lvl 50 just seems, as others have said, a bit dumb.

What's the point of leveling then? What's the point of getting new gear, for Vanity or Use? Why are you playing?

I think thats probably the most overly melodramatic thing I have read today. It brings to mind flavors of a totalitarian regime, or maybe a theocracy lol. Way too big of a sentence to use when it comes to a vanity system in a video game....you should have saved it for another day!

The point of leveling is to get stronger, to do more challenging dungeons and raids, to participate in PvP, to obtain more and better gear, to better earn gil, to participate in Beastman content and other level-cap story content... There is plenty purpose to leveling to cap. The vanity system does not need to be and SHOULD NOT be used as an incentive for that.

What's ironic to me is that by simply looking at your character's face icon, I can instantly tell you are already 50th level as you are wearing a Darklight cowl. So, you are raging over something that doesn't even affect you at all.

I didn't know level 50s weren't allowed to voice displeasure at things locked behind level 50. Apparently there is some rule somewhere which says otherwise.

I think Vanity system just has sense for 50s players. In this way, you wont have 100+ clones of your character around. Really, who's going to lose time changing his/her low level gear when the level up is so dramatically fast?

I actually agree with this. Dyes, Barbershop, etc are either super simple (pour the dyes on your clothes or call an npc). But Glamour seems to be a complex casting of magic. Definitely seems lore wise, to be something advanced that only the most seasoned adventurer could hope to master. And it is a really nice perk for reaching level 50.

Please enlighten us on the use of Odin's Armor then.

I feel it was extremely late notice to announce 50 requirement... considering you had plenty of pretty pre-50's amped about the feature. Felt kinda messed up honestly & should be reverted downward to lvl 30 req or something.

I've been saying for weeks that I can't imagine they'd just toss Odin's armor, a piece that virtually defines vanity gear, by the wayside for too, too long. That maybe it was a challenge to implement and there's no sense holding back the system for one piece. But, "No Plans?" I'm actually kind of surprised. Unless you plan to use it as your AFK Braggart Set, why buy it? And why buy the helm without the body to look forward to? Would it be feasible to see the set broken down into its four one-slot components? Maybe charge 2 mantles for the body and 1 for the other three slots to keep everything balanced, and allow those who already have it to trade it in for 5 Mantles as was done with the Seals-to-Tomes?

Because maybe... just maybe... I happen to like the acolyte or battlemage sets and dislike 95% else of whats out there right now because its fugly. Maybe its for people who want to look cool all the way around instead of looking.. well.. fugly all the way up to the end game armour.

Yes, and maybe, just maybe, we will have the whole server full of Acolyte skin and Brayflox set gear, basically the opposite of vanity system' sense.
They did terrible choices in the past, mainly the one to change the soul of Tanaka's 1.0 vision, but I agree with this... at least.

I don't have any problem with Glamours requiring a level 50 character to unlock, but Odin armour isn't intended to be a vanity item? Really?

Hjalmr has some of the worst stats of any lv50 helm for a Paladin / Warrior. And it can only be obtained through a super-rare spawn FATE, either getting Gold on it or doing it five times.

If it wasn't intended to be a vanity item, what is the point of it? It sure isn't for tanking, since darklight is way better and easier to obtain.

Maybe they could just break the graphic set down into a helm, gloves, chest, boots, etc ? It seems like a total waste of graphics right now, which is sad considering even with the new content Warriors / Paladins have very few armour sets that actually look good.

You will need to purchase a glamour item crafted by another player in order to glamour each item you want. Chances are pretty good they are going to be hella expensive, at least 10k a pop. A pre-level 50 character doesn't have the gil to waste on vanity. The developers are doing you a favor.

That is an idiotic excuse, a vanity system should never be locked behind level cap. Ever. Dungeons and certain gear, yes, that's always how it's done. That's the stuff level 50s have to look forward to. Everyone, NOT JUST LEVEL 50s, was looking forward to vanity system, and now SE basically gave them all a middle finger and said "too bad, you wanna look nice, you better rush to 50".

That isn't fair to anyone, especially not those who don't want to feel rushed to get to level cap by the very company making the game. It's bad enough players already rush everyone to get to endgame.

I love how so many people are complaining about the lvl 50 requirement already have a level 50 job.

Those also crying "it forces people to rush to endgame" need to read more. SE has said over and over again the point of the game IS endgame. It is why it is so easy to get to 50 compared to most games. Especially compared to FFXI.

10k for each item? then the vanity system is already partially dead. you sure as heck wouldn't be able to have much fun with it. not unless you're rich. besides what about alternate characters?

i don't know. but i have played several MMO's with a vanity system. and none of them were as restricting as this. not even remotely. it's supposed to be a fun cosmetic system. not end-game content. heck they may as well even throw in a boss fight and/or FATE. it's the only thing(s) missing.



while i don't mean to sound un-grateful. the restrictions ARE quite imposing. either way... restricting or not. it's a new feature. and i do applaud SE for implementing new features.

Very dissapointing to hear they aren't going to fix it so you can use Odin's armor with vanity... I guess you can still use the head & sword. Pretty lame move.

Shouldn't that tell you something? We're 50, able to unlock it, and still think it's asinine to have it locked behind level 50. It may be easy to reach 50, and as a result a lot of us already are, and it is still stupid to require max level.

I'd say it's likely this was a deliberate decision because of the volume of gear at 50 that becomes obsolete disproportionately more quickly than the rest of the game.
