SICK OF THE LAG FEST

I have an older computer and lag can be a problem from multiple points from me. (PC/ISP/SE SRV) I found some things that helped me.
-In {System Settings} & {Character Settings} : I adjusted the amount of stuff i request to load like people and effect animations. At first this sounds like a loss, but, in all reality I didn't change the textures for the world or my own char. So i don't notice a difference.
-Frame Limiting : I set this aside as it may have nothing to do with anything. I set mine to limit because it would go from 35+ to 0 to 5 to 0 to 18 ..... etc and it almost seemed like it would pull to high top out crash and have a seizure, and limiting it and then restarting the client has stopped it from Seizen up. I still get a few slight jumps but overall smooth
-Misc Stuff : i use an Application Called Razor (Sorry for naming a product ) but its a game booster and when i launch FF XIV with it it will cut all un needed stuff running in my computer and free up Phys mem and CPU load . It has helped . Not saying get that program but looking at your Physical Memories load % & your CPU's Load% freeing up space and clutter always helps even the best pc.

Same thing as everyone here. On PS4 with a solid 50mbps/20mbps fiber optic connection.

Tons of lag since around mid march. Game is unplayable. Stops for 5-10 seconds at a time, sometimes up to 20 and then catches back up. Results in endless deaths in stupid easy stuff, and makes the fun level 50 stuff unplayable. Extremely disappointed this wasn't addressed ASAP. Can't progress healing or tanking classes with the delays. Not as if DPS is much better, but at least I only get myself killed usually. Do something about this or lose another customer.

Not that SE actually gives a damn about their players...but I am posting, yet again. About their errors. I was in a duty, and got a 90k, came back and I was kicked out and I still need to do it. Fix your freaking lag/error issues. I have been getting this bs for months now! Why the heck isn't all these errors (90k, 10105, 2002) fixed yet? WHY? I really do not want to play with this continuous bs. lol

Sooooo, any Dev team having anything to say on this? I mean the lag is still horrible. And some people have gotten 90k's on Sargatanas this morning. Why can't we get an answer to this?

There are known issues amongst the various ISP's involved in getting data back and forth between your client and the your world service. Uunless you are right there in Montreal and use PSInet or Ormuco for Internet, you likely use at least 3 ISP's along the way. It has been covered extensively on these forums and elsewhere. If you haven't done so yet, may want to run some tests to rule that out. TATA (AS6453) recently had big issues with some corridors in the north east, and Level3 has been known to have issues off and on for years... Cogent is a bit better, but isn't immune to such problems either. Same goes to Verizon's ALTER.NET and GTT's TiNet/SPA segments. Those are 5 of the major ISP's with whom Ormuco has peering agreements, and who most of us ultimately wind up using to get to SE.

So.. if you see their names along your route at hops exhibiting issues, they are likely the culprit or at least heavily invested in the problem. More often than not, it would be your ISP that would need to address the problem, as they are the ones who established the route that is putting you on that hop in the first place. They can either work to address the problems along that route, or switch you to alternate routing to try to avoid the troubled segment. All of this falls under your ISP's influence far more than SE could ever exert towards a solution.

The exception of course is when the problems occur only on the other side of those third/fourth party exchanges and are fully within Ormuco or SE's segments. Ormuco is SE's ISP, so from that point forward, SE would likely get better results trying to get things addressed. To that end... SE has been announcing planned maintenance by Ormuco, as well as maintenance of their own. One Ormuco maintenance had been postponed a couple times, but appears to have finally been completed last night--but another is pending this weekend (check the Lodestone for the time frame). Ormuco has done this a few times in the past and has addressed some of the congestion/stability issues that were found within their sphere of influence. With any luck, such will be the case again.

If after this maintenance completes you still have issues and you have not either diagnosed your route yourself or had your ISP seriously investigate it (as in, you typically need to be dealing with Tier3 support (sometimes referred to as Engineering) and not the guys that answer the 800 number or the techs that come on site--if your ISP has an online support portal, it usually gets you to those higher tiers faster), you really need to check out your route--either doing it yourself or getting your ISP involved..

Here is an article from Blizzard that gives a good run down of some basic tests you can run or have your ISP do on your behalf, as well as some server addresses you can test against. I will also include the DNS names for the lobby servers to FFXIV. You may also want to test against other established services like Google/Youtube, Netflix, Hulu, TwitchTV or even Microsoft to help draw some contrasts--and save your results so you can forward them to Tier3 later, as it helps substantiate the claim about issues enroute specifically to SE's servers:

Oh, and as for the Dev Team responding... this is user-to-user support more so than user to SE. It's covered in the sticky welcoming you to the Tech Support forum. They have however communicated to us through the forums and the Lodestone off and on over the past year--there are several stickies for gathering information on issues players are experiencing, and as I mentioned earlier, there is currently a notice about planned maintenance on the datacenter being conducted by their ISP, as well as a planned SE maintenance next week that includes some infrastructure work as well.

Weird... Not experiencing any of these issues, the rare time I lag is sometimes in Mor Dhona. It's like this stuttering, freeze, but if I restart the game it seems to go away. I do have a computer built, specifically for gaming though. I used to think I lagged in other games before, but after I built my gaming rig I went back and played those same games...No lag.

It had been my computer all along. Maybe some of you could start saving for a PC upgrade? My build only cost me $700 and is able to play anything out there in max settings, if you'd like more information on it, feel free to leave me a message. :)

lag since latest patch 2.55

ping goes extremely high when playing game after maybe 30-40 mins in. starts normal but would suddenly start lagging. have not had a problem like this before. only after patch pls help. this is getting ridiculous. tried everything from port forwarding, resetting router, calling isp.

problem seems to come from the game and is affecting my whole internet.

After I teleport, the game goes down to like 1 fps on ocassion and basically freezes. Sometimes it crashes, while most of the time it catches up after around a minute. The game feels very unstable. I have a good PC so that's not the issue.

Having the exact same problems on PS4 ever since this damn patch. Game is unplayable.

Adding to the list of lagging issues.

I will note that since the FCC passed that reclassing of Internet, things have gotten better. Before the reclass, I was getting 2-3 seconds of lag on everything. After the reclass, I'm down to 1-2 seconds of lag.

Issue is not my PC...

As you can see, PC is more then able. Temps are high 60s/Low 70s under prime95 load.

Using a VPN program (WTFast for example) all lag is removed. This rules out the FF14 servers as the culprit as the lag would be present regardless what I do.

Seems Tata Communications is to blame. Before the reclass, I would be at 32ms every jump until Palo Alto. From there, I would jump to 100ms+ per jump after and get a 15-30% packet loss during non-peak hours at Palo Alto.

Testing of lag done by Botany/Mining and timing the delay between click, swing, looting and abilities lighting up again.

IP assignments have changed with the infrastructure changes they just made. Noted in another thread that my client is now using an IP I haven't seen it use since back around patch 2.2. Since Beta4, I have tracked 4 differnt IP's in use for my Midgard connection. This is the first time I've seen it go back to a previously used IP address (199.91.189.31). Just to be sure your assigned IP's haven't changed as well, you guys may want to load resmon or run netstat to see just what IP you are actually connecting to, and then run some traces there just to be sure you are getting an accurate picture.

Yeah I have been lagging constantly and dcing, I don't have a problem with dcing when I am stood around but it seems to happen when I am doing coil or other dutys mainly and at the worse possible times, it does not help that you lose the lb if someone dcs. At this rate I might have to stop paying my sub till heavensward which I don't want to but will do if the game continues being nigh-unplayable.
I had never lagged before and certainly have never lagged this bad in anything before.

i just ran netstat and it shows me as being connected to Famfrit, not Malboro which might explain my lag a bit if its going through another server

no...they've assigned you a different IP to use. Since the first major revamp shortly after the initial 2.0 launch, the world services have always been hosted on multiple IP addresses (at least 3 per world have been documented)--the ARR site has always only shown one of the IP's that may be used. So some of the traces/pings being done by some players may be failing because the IP they are testing against is no longer valid.

It appears some of the IP's we have been using in the past have either been dropped from the pool or they have otherwise been knocked out of commission. Either way, something has changed in their topology--which could be in line with the notice of the last maintenance where they noted there would be infrastructure changes.

There was also a recent notice about issues they found on Ormuco's end that supposedly have been addressed. But it seems the old 199.91.189.57 and 199.91.189.60 IP's posted on the ARR site for a handful of servers appear to still be unresponsive. That may simply be due to the infrastructure changes though, and not because there is something "wrong', but more that the configurations have changed. They need to find the new IP's and update the site I guess.

I've been getting the Stuttering lag as well. I have good ping, before I log in my connection to the realm said its Excellent, and yet.Stuttering and 15 sec lag spikes from Last night when I tried to tank Final Coil. Whatever happened during the server maintenance or data center maintenance needs to be changed back.

Everytime I do a trace the 6th ping is a timed out..should I be concerned?

I've been getting the same lag, specifically on the second of 11pm PST or 9PM Hawaii time. It lasts from an hour or more. It's the only time I can play and if this keeps up, my play time comes down from 3 hrs to 2-1 hr. Might as well just give up and unsub till expansion.

not sure what going on but from what I gather...it should not be my end. I am rubber banding not stuttering....that is more accurate to what I am dealing with...its is quite annoying and hoping someone could give an explanation..if it's Squares end or my providers end, but I digress because I was totally fine on Monday until Tuesday came around and since then I've been rubber banding.

This is just a thought- but depending on how much Square changed, your ISP could be considering FFXIV as Peer to Peer again. This happened I think about half a year ago where certain ISPs would blatantly throttle FFXIV traffic in peak hours due to them thinking it was P2P. Square got around to the problem eventually and got it fixed, but now with recent changes, things could have reverted back. I've had some lag the past few days but there were several tornado warnings- whether or not the lag was due to that or not I do not know. If it's a P2P problem though (again) the only way around the packet loss is through a VPN.

This happened I think about half a year ago where certain ISPs would blatantly throttle FFXIV traffic in peak hours due to them thinking it was P2P. Square got around to the problem eventually and got it fixed, but now with recent changes, things could have reverted back. I've had some lag the past few days but there were several tornado warnings- whether or not the lag was due to that or not I do not know. If it's a P2P problem though (again) the only way around the packet loss is through a VPN.

you mean like WTFast....yes I noticed a big difference when I tried that..*sigh* I personally don't like relying on something else other than my net for a stable connection but until the issue is fixed I don't have much of a choice If I want to continue MT or OT Final Coil.

every mob, healthbar update stops for 10 seconds... And then comes the hope that I survived it all or died once again from mobs that I shouldn't even die from.
I wonder if the lag could also be caused by the increased gilspam that is also still unresolved.

Just going to say that I've been experiencing the same sort of things being described in here since 4/14/2015.

While I haven't noticed creatures jumping all over the place, I do see it happen with other players. I had a friend of mine run in a straight line without stopping, however I saw their character run, then suddenly stop, then zip ahead to where they should be. Its also pretty obvious when I'm watching groups of players move from FATE to FATE or commute from one play to the next in any area; the whole group will suddenly stop at the same time, then all suddenly zip ahead at the same time.

Before 4/14/15, I had absolutely no issue with lag.

I feel I should add that I play on PS4 and nothing with my ISP has changed.

Did some more digging around using tracert and it looks like I go through atlas.cogentco.com a number of times on my way to the NA data center, and that's where my packet loss starts.

I don't know when this change happened or why, but as I said before; I just started having issues starting after this last maintenance.

Hopefully something can be done about this. I feel that this issue is out of my control at the moment and its really effecting my enjoyment of the game in a negative way.

The routing is determined by your ISP's policies and those of the routing partner with whom they've connected you. Extremely unlikely anything SE did (not really much the could do to affect those routing decisions) It's pretty much all based on whatever analytics and/or routing protocol your ISP has implemented.

You need to get your ISP's Tier3 team involved to conduct a proper investigation and then request appropriate escalation if needed to address the problem. Alternatively, you could try some VPN/Proxy services to try routing you through different regions to see if you can find a more stable path.

I'm glad to finally see these lag topics be moved from Technical Support to Being Addressed; But what's disheartening is to see maintenance and hot-fixes, with no mention of lag or resolve.

The game has been in a horrible state ever since FCOB went to Duty Finder. Having access to the games most difficult content is in-fact worthless if the game/instance is unplayable. The issue mutes patch 2.56. What is echo or Duty Finder if you can't play. I hope to see SE tackle this issue with the up-most urgency.

seems like the ae-43-43.ebr3.NewYork1.Level3.net has some problems and then it switches to the ebr4.

im not sure if there is a workaround for that node tho?

well i went to 2 dungeons and i magically had no lags at all , and i didnt do anything fyi.

I've never had lag with my system and I've just had to use my task manager to end task my client because I was stuck on the loading screen to Camp Dagonhead in Corethas for 10 minutes. I could still type but could not do anything else after having lag spikes in the area 15 minutes previously. What the hell is going on?

had to start using WTFast recently too ATT has terrible routing for this game. Had issues at start then they stopped, then about two months ago started again and i just went with the VPN option XD

edit: about a week ago VPN was down for maint. and i did play it normal and was fine so maybe its been resolved by now.

im lagging so bad at times i can even go into any dutys just started happening like a week ago too i dont want to stop playing this game plz fix the lag!!!

SE can't fix North America's internet single-handedly. At best, they may be able to prod Ormuco to improve things on their end in/around Canada. Your ISP needs to be working from their end to fix things between you and Ormuco--be that issues with their networks or the routing partners they use to get us to Ormuco in Montreal.

Tier3 support is what you need from your ISP. You pay them for their service, and in turn their support to address known issues of congestion spikes and packet loss. Demand they work on improving it.

Please do something to fix the lag for the S ranks. Tons of players there and we can barely move. It's not just me and it only ever happens to me when there;s that many people in a zone for an S rank so it's your servers. With your new expac, you likely will have more players coming back so it will be even worse. We pay you well. You're a multi-million $ company. You can afford better servers.

They already announced servers will be coming to Europe. How close they manage to get them up and running to the 3.0/3.1 release time frames remains to be seen... but they are coming.

So, i'm not the only one with lag spikes in dungeons (outside, it's okay) ... Basicaly, it's since one week i've noticed the aggration of this problem (european player). And i can see that north american players have this exact problem too. It's frustating and can cause wipes. I do think it's the actual "interworld" VM that is the cause of our problems.

I really hope that the new european servers will help both north american and european players.

I've been having the same issues with rubber-banding characters and attacks hitting long after I had moved out of the area and I did some investigation to the NA datacenter. This occurs primarily in instanced dungeons and is much worse during the evenings. During off times such as weekday mornings it is much less noticeable or fight-wrecking. What I found is it is clearly not on my ISP, it is on the Montreal end, in between the datacenter and the iweb cloud server where bad packet loss is happening. Square Enix, if you're contracted with this "iweb" service, they are not doing a good job lately. Here is my pathping and you can see 4% packet loss, all in that area.

wrong IP address. They do have an agreement with i-web... but it is for websites, not the game. The game is hosted on Ormuco segments starting with 199, in a different section of Montreal. May not even follow TATA lines (AS6453) to get there (which is where your latency is most likely getting off-kilter, would need tracerts to see it better). Who you use to get to Ormuco depends on your ISP's routing policies and not SE.

Try one of these addresses instead, they are the DNS names for the current lobby servers in Canada.

Ideally, you would want to use the IP you actually connect to when fully logged into the game for the testing (can get that from Resource Monitor(resmon from search/run box) or the netstat command in a CMD prompt), but those addresses above will provide enough information for your ISP to track down either the subnet or the proper ASN to use to adjust routing--if they are so inclined. But that would require bringing in your ISP's Tier3 Support. Sometimes it can be difficult to get them by phone--you may fair better using online contact methods.

Thought I'd post here as I have started getting constant lag both in and out of duties. It looks like things constantly freezing and then catching back up again (rubber banding?), and I get the disconnect symbol above my head momentarily quite frequently.

I ran "pathping 199.91.189.26", which is the IP I was connected to once fully logged into the game as Raist suggested. Any help in interpreting what this means in the context of my lag issues would be great as I don't have much clue what I'm looking at. Called my ISP and they say the connection to my modem is steady and there's nothing wrong on their end.

[EDIT] Wanted to add that I'm on a wired connection, I have a Motorola SURFboard SBG6580 (which is a modem and router in one), and I've run multiple pathpings with pretty much identical results to the above.
