Actually, I think a 9 person group would be called a "fellowship"

/cheer for wasting the time of the Community Reps/Anyone else who has taken the time to read this non-sense.
two parties = raid. one party = party one person = solo. three or more parties = war lol?
Group of 9 or more should be called Nerd Herd, Single party size should be Nerd Circle.
IT DOESN'T MATTER!!! now all of you send me all your subligar to my mail box!!!
Oh, look, another troll who resorts to insults when his argument is weak and based in nothing but opinion. How original.
"Just so we're clear" *rolls eyes* If Yoshi-P draws from an example in another game (like he specifically did in the quote in the OP), yet fails to understand that example, then that is indeed an error on his part that could affect the game.
Let's call them orgies. Take away the word's sexual connotation, and it's an accurate description, no?
kk, kinda off-topic but wth is up with all these "sky-Blue" my lil ponies i seen in a few ppl's sigs?
This the new EPIC FFXIV mount?
Anywayz, instead of argueing about "Raid or no Raid, why not come up with
a better / more suited word for the FFXIV dunegon raiding?
raid -
1. A surprise attack by a small armed force.
2. A sudden forcible entry into a place by police: a raid on a gambling den.
3. An entrance into another's territory for the purpose of seizing goods or valuables.
4. A predatory operation mounted against a competitor, especially an attempt to lure away the personnel or membership of a competing organization.
This isn't an issue with MMO terminology. It's English. Do you speak it? It's certainly not Yoshi's native language, yet ignorant people want to argue semantics with him. Fantastic.
Not cause I want to beat this dead horse but I really can't help myself.
Raid is a word, it has many meanings and wasn't born nor will it die in WoW or any other MMO for that matter.
SE has and will most likely continue to set the standard for what a good RPG is, so what if there were a few bumps in the road.
WoW is a clone and has had many clones made of it. That WoW began a trend that 10~15 year olds caught onto isn't surprising, very little work/effort for rewards is what kids like.
FFXI at it's peak saw more active players not WoW's, "Hmm think I need another account to try this other race ... it's only my 15th one." growth pattern.
Anyway use "Raid" any damn way you see fit, lead, don't follow, be the trend setter you've always been.
Thankyou S.E.
The whole point of this thread was so that when the OP bragged to his WoW friends that he was raiding in FFXIV, that he was doing something large scale and WoW-cool. SE squashed his dreams, now he has a BF (White Chicks terminology).
Lol and raid by definition actually seems to fit perfectly for what Yoshi calls a raid.
this thread is a fail.
I think you guys are missing the point.
Yoshi has two options.
1. He could call these instances by any name he likes.
or
2. He could call them raids which are an industry-related term denoting a specific iteration of large-scale instances.
Using option 2 even if the instances aren't in agreement with the general application of the term makes people question the logic. SE either needs someone to explain why raids aren't the appropriate term, or they quite simply need a thesaurus.
And do we really want FFXIV to descend into another cliche MMO? We already have "quest-hubs", wasn't that horrible enough? Now we must adopt the term "raids" too?
These are weighted terms in the MMO community and I don't really like them. For FFXIV, I feel they make the gameworld too unoriginal and generic.
Aren't we supposed to be moving away from copy-pasta? Now we're actively encouraging it?
Ironic.
This thread was in my Hot Topics section. So I clicked, and didn't check the date of the responses (irrelevent) and then responded.
This thread caught my eye because there were several people discussing the raid/dungeon misuse of terminology ingame, and some people still didn't seem to understand MMO terminology =/= the words definition.
If this isn't an adequate answer to your completely off-topic question... Then I suppose I could go post spam (just like yours and Verecunds posts) another 610 times in threads that have been previously posted in within the last 14 days.
My post was on topic, unlike yours. This post, however, isn't. And I didn't troll WoW. I beat WoW, I enjoyed WoW, and I will never play WoW again.
14 days? And this thread was in the crypt? I don't know what to say.

Excuse me, gentlemen. Could you tell me why the ongoing thread is still discussing about a manner of using words that the crowd could not care less than a cup of tea? I believe monsieur Yoshida has the rights and the good reasons to use some terms.
ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)
WOULD YOU SHUT THE F*CK UP ABOUT A TOPIC THAT NO BODY WOULD EVEN F*CKING SH*T ON IT!? IF YOSHIDA CALLS THEM RAIDS THEN LET HIM F*CKING DO IT!
( °3°)
Herpitaderpy? DERPITAHARRDERP RAIDS REDDERPARRAHURR!
Or you could post in threads that are actually being discussed instead of posting something that has been posted at least 5 times (including 2 posts before yours) in a dead thread.
Derpin da derp in this thread. Also you're dragging this further off-topic, good job.
OH MY GOD, METAL GEEEEEEEEEEUUUUUUURRRRR
...
ok, we'll stop it.
Love all the arguing going on in this thread when Yoshi just decided to use the word more technical rather than the slang use of the word in mmo's xD It's a english word people! Or is your vocab and grammer skills so bad that you only speak and understand slang? LoL ... Least a couple people in this thread have some smarts, next you'll all be complaining that he uses the word "loot" when he's referring to some future content which will involve stealing goods from the beastman tribes. Rather than new equipment, or the act of "looting a mob"(which is all auto in this game like 11)!!!
WTH this thread is still going? LOL I guess trolls didn't have any good thing to feed on so they just brought back old thread
