Think about this one, if they had to remove elemental affinities to better balance the game, why do they ruin our chances at getting useful materia by making elemental materia even obtainable besides being entirely useless and annoying.
Why are there elemental potions? Gods and races affecting elemental stats, heck, why are the stats even in the game?
Your little list of 'examples' on page 9 was just a wishlist of how you want to revamp all the jobs and gameplay to suit your tastes. I like my blackmage as is tyvm, why should I have to relearn it because you don't think of it as an 'essential feature' and think its 'flawed'? That sounds a bit like you're spitting in the dev's faces there.
You want a different game, just admit it already and leave. See you when 2.2 drops though I'm sure.
You're right I DO want a different game, I'm sure you did as well, or was the game launch just how you wanted the game to be? I don't know how you came to the conclusion I want to scrap the game that's completely unreasonable and I just don't want it to happen to begin with.

I too am beginning to find the lack of will to log into FFXIV, rather than throw up a whole new thread, I'd thought I'd share here to hopefully shed light on the situation that SE seems to be overlooking when it comes to the games presentation and general flow.
First things first, I've been around MMORPG's since the Early days of Anarchy Online and Dark Age of Camelot (I'm not going to Claim UO because not nearly as many folk played UO as we seem to have claim, MMO's didn't really become popular until EQ: Scars of Velious expansion and they saw steady growth until WoWs release) I've played just about every game that the MMO market has to offer in current day so I've come to know what works and what doesn't.....
FFXIV, simply does not work.
Now lower your hatchets, torches and lalafell effigy pitchforks fans! I have an explanation!
FFXIV is confused, it has NO idea if it wants to cater to hardcore players or to casual players and fails to actually convince either group while successfully adding reasons for those groups to NOT want to play the product.
So I'll put by player type the reasons why those groups would feel offput.
Hardcore Raiders:
-Lockout timers, nothing gets on a Raiders nerves more than being told they cannot get shinies more than "x per week", yet they still allow you to continue running the raid even though you will get nothing after your drop so it has sort of a Jim Bowen off Bullseye thing going of "Lets have a look at what you could've won!". In a game geared by loot, lockout timers = BAD.
-Trash run daily levequests, is it really neccessary to force someone looking for their first set of gear to re-run the same content they did forty levels ago? I understand the ideal that has gone behind it but the implementation is poor.
-Enrage mechanics, It's lazy, it's sloppy it ISNT a good mechanic a lot of the older Raiders absolutely despise this mechanic (speak to anyone that was part of the large number of people that left WoW before WoTLK, we left because every boss was given that Mechanic because Blizzard were getting too lazy to come up with interesting boss fight mechanics) No serious Raider worth their salt enjoys being exposed to a timed battle unless the mechanic makes absolute sense on that particular boss.
Casual Players:
Locked progression on what should be a "solo" story: I absolutely understand what SE was going for here, I can say they absolutely dropped the ball too. Unless you rolled on a heavily populated server, you WILL struggle to progress at certain points, your Grand Company Hunting Log will be the biggest hinderance as one of the Dungeons (Haitain) never ever gets run on the quieter servers so you will find your GC progression halted and stuck for a very long time. Trials Yes, Dungeons No.
Headless chicken content: This is the name I give to content where you find yourself running back and forth between an NPC over and over, nothing more than an unneccessary time sink that makes the grind become apparent.
Levequest lockout limits: Whoever thought this was a good idea imho is absolutely bonkers, new players will not realise that you can save your levequests for later and thus build them up to a point where you have a reasonable number to quickly grind out levels, the lockout is a major putoff and one of the largest contributing factors that will stop players opening their wallets to a subscription.
Grindy content: Yes, the game has a heavy grind that isn't apparent until you reach your late 20's early 30's of class progression. Weather it be repeating fates, Levequests, Guildhests or your solo content you begin to feel the grind and it begins to take its toll. Now it's no secret that every MMO has grinding, that Grinding is very much part of the MMO business model, but the idea is to make the grind Subtle. FFXIV's grind is about as subtle as a sledgehammer (I've experienced real grind back in Anarchy Online when we had to run Adonis and Inferno hecklers 8 hours a day every day, I HATE grinding because of that experience and I feel like I'm back in that grind cycle when playing FFXIV)
Conclusion:
FFXIV does have some fun aspects to it, I actually quite enjoy the crafting system (but even that becomes grindy and monotonous) and feel the game has an absolute TON of potential that just isn't getting realised because it's being held back by:
-Lazy Mechanics
-Unneccessary Lockouts and Gating (Gear is enough of a Gate, there is NO need for a second Gate)
-Grinding
-Headless Chicken Questlines
-Repeated Content
I am going to give the game a chance to change my mind however, because I'm a huge FF Fan, especially of the Job system (my fave FF game was FF Tactics) so I'll give it a couple of months until ESO goes live to see if they can polish it up and if any of these issues are addressed because I really want to see this game succeed, but right now...I honestly cannot see it.

It's the very beginning of this game. You should come back @ its first expansion at least and see how things feel then.
I'm with you Mihael, I just feel pretty stupid that I was suckered in by the "Final Fantasy" name and played this. I mean none of these characters are even memorable, nor is the content interesting at "end game", you log in clear turn 1-5 you cap myth and log out. Not only that but the developers keep making this game easier as if it wasn't Care Bear enough, and for crying out loud this is an MMO and yet there is no content that instills a sense of competition. inb4someonementionscrappypvpandworldbosses. Tell me, how does the pvp adds to the story? It doesn't! This is just something that was added for people who have nothing else to do in order to distract them from the stale "end game" content and it doesn't even do that. What other reason is there to gear up with coil/myth gear other than to do "harder dungeons/instances"(lol)? Do you get achievements (or PSN trophies) for having a complete set of either? Would you use it in pvp over pvp gear? NO! inb4youreaspeacialsnowflake.
Only two games have ever gotten better with Expansions:
Dark Age of Camelot: The Shrouded Isles
Everquest: Ruins of Kunark.
Expansions throughout the MMO years except for those two instances have often made the Base product Worse even WoW (widely regarded at its best back in Vanilla pre-TBC) so unless SE sit down and seriously take on board every critism and make steps to fix them, the legacy of MMO Expansions weighs heavily against it getting better.

Anyways, I play a fair amount, and I still have fun every time I log in. I play 2 characters, and do Coil with both every week up to T4, do primals, cap myth, mess with crafting, etc. I play probably like 20 hours a week? Maybe a little more? My FC is small so we didn't blast through content and Coil and X modes.

I do agree the world is A BIT bland for an FF game. I think with the expansion of the beast-man tribes it might get a little better. I really prefer the story telling of Everquest (couldn't have guessed that, could you have?) In which every quest or NPC you talk to contributes in some way to an overarching theme per expansion. i.e. Talk to mob_01: "BattleLord EvilFace has invaded our home and enslaved us!", talk to mob_98 3 zones over: "To defeat BattleLord EvilFace, ancient magics must be harnessed, and can only be found in RaidZone_01." Kind of stitching together an overall situation that is brewing, where you don't need to watch cutscenes to understand whats going on, you just get the impression of what happening.
While that is not the case here, the gameplay is engaging if not challenging, the world is astoundingly beautiful, the developers are vocal, active, and producing new content A LOT, and there is a veritable "crap load" of potential. We've got new IPs like Coil of Bahamut, and a HUGE library of untapped pseudo-meta-lore from other FF games (seen this in Crystal Tower being implemented already). We've got A LOT of new classes and jobs that are conceptually drawn out already and only need to be executed. We've got chocobo breeding on the horizon.
I think FFXIV is healthy for the MMO Landscape, in that it satiates the accomplishment-crave that make MMOs so attractive, but it doesn't make me feel like I don't have a chance to be respected in the community if I can only play 2 days in a given week. If you are out of things to do (everything @ 50, DL'ed, AFed all crafting, capped everything for the week, Coil'ed etc) then go for a walk, adopt a pet, volunteer at a homeless shelter.
I find this counter-productive, Mihael simply put down thoughts into word in a hope that some of those thoughts are shared (it's clear by the number of likes and other posters that they ARE shared). There is a huge difference between going:
"This games bad, you should all feel bad for playing it"
And
"I feel this game has potential, but I'm not enjoying it because..."
Constructive critism, it's what the MMO industry has been crying out for, it's why they put questionaires in subscription cancellation and why they are encouraging people to come forward and explain why they are unhappy. They are trying to put a halt to the Revolving door that is the Modern MMO and being critical of people voicing their opinion? That isn't helping the problem, only adding to it by making less want to come forward.
There is an old saying in retail "For every customer that leaves while voicing their dislike, ten more just left quietly" remember, MMOs are still very much part of that same retail industry model.
Edit: Mattia I'll have to take your word for it as I was probably back in my hardcore raiding days when the FFXI expansions came out (one of the few MMO's I never played)
Let me just say, that if you expect people to not come into your topic with pitchforks you probably shouldn't word the title like that. People will always defend something they love. I don't know how someone who wants to be taken seriously on either side cannot fathom this..?
I liked all the EQ expansions up to Ykesha... and GoD and OOW were terrible.
The reason I loved the expansions is because they expanded a world that I found to be intriguing and I loved finding out more of the lore..... the world in this game is pretty one dimensional...
EQ had Gods, elementals... famous characters and wars... this world has a giant talking crystal... an empire that is defeated... and I kinda would have sided with them if I had the choice... and a problem with people repeatedly summoning primals over and over, because they have nothing better to do- which the empire would have put a stop to...
RoZ, CoP and WotG were all brilliant. The quality didn't really start going downhill until the mini-add ons (all of which were horrible, but they were also made by original design lead in XI and it showed) and then pretty much the fallout of Abyssea.
I maintain Abyssea was actually well done and fun - I thoroughly enjoyed the hell out of it. But it was too much coming down from such a high, back into the older more grindy (and far less rewarding) content that was the nail in the coffin for me. Namely Void Watch - it was utterly horrible, and when I saw the 1000 plates requirement for 95 Empyreans I lost my ****. It wasn't so much that abyssea destroyed everything, but XI had had its level cap in place for a solid 7 years and so it was a bit too much of a shock to have all that content nullified in a single patch. Had it been a gradual thing I think it would have gone over much more smoothly with the community because you can't honestly tell me that Abyssea wasn't fun - Running around with Atma and Cruor buffs, 18-man EXP parties that finally did away with job discrimination (for the most part anyway) - I almost never saw PUP or BST in groups before that. The whole weakness targeting thing was nifty as well since it gave use to a lot of older, forgotten skills and weird stuff like melee WHM was actually encouraged (Hexa Strike could do a loooooooot of damage with the right gear and atma).
But again, everything after that just felt... "meh". Abyssea was the sort of thing that should have come at the end of XI's life, as one final hurrah for ****s and giggles. That may have even been the original intent considering XIV was just getting ready to launch at the time, and then once it bombed I guess the XI devs probably thought "Uh, crap, what do we do now?"
But that's enough about XI. The main point I continue to make is that XI, for all its failings did a lot of things right and maintained a steady flow of subscribers for years, whereas all these other post-WoW MMOs made all kinds of fancy promises and looked great and then they all fell upon their own swords less than a year or 2 later. I don't want that to happen to this game too.
I'm confused by this post. You claim what you said in that long post of yours previously is providing "constructive criticism" but all you did was complain? That's like most of the posts on these forums about this same topic and even the OP is all just whining and complaining. Nothing constructive has been given.
For those of you who don't like the game in its current state then why don't you provide some actual "constructive criticism" rather than just say "this game sucks because of blah blah blah." Negative feedback =\= constructive criticism if you actually see potential in something.

Is he trying to spark an argument or something? What good advice about wine could you get from someone who clearly just wants soda? Constructive Criticism =/= Entitlement to the rights of development. MMO Forums love to do threads like this, and as a person who used to do the same thing, it's just a complete waste of time for everybody.
He needs to just quit, leave the forums, and look for a game that wont disappoint him. He can pray over and over that this one will eventually change, but lets face it. We all know it wont.
Here is what people are conveniently forgetting, since they just want to berate the OP:
When SE asked for feedback from us since 1.0 was a failure, and when they continually ask for more feedback, and then go on to tell us that our feedback was received and was used to make certain decisions, it fostered the thinking among the playerbase that our continued feedback is important and will be looked at.
Now, when some of you give 'feedback' about loot drops, or lockouts, or nerfing old content... How is that ANY different than what this OP was doing?
I agree with the OP, and with a lot of the other threads recently that don't like the direction the game is taking. Too much vertical progression, not enough variety, not enough story, doesn't feel like Final Fantasy.
I too am thinking about quitting when my sub runs out. Until then, I'm going to continue playing. My husband plays, and I have some friends in our ls, but I'm getting the feeling that the game is NOT for me, and never will be.
We come here to give our feedback because we've been conditioned to believe that our feedback is desired and will be looked at. We come here to give our feedback because the team that gave us 1.23 is the team working on 2.0 and we know that they can do better than what we're currently getting. We come here to give our feedback in hopes of finding people of like mind, or even different mind, but that are capable of having a grown up discussion instead of just saying 'cool story bro.'
You tell the OP he's wrong for posting here for x and y reason, but if that's the case, why are you even posting in his thread? Let's throw some of your own advice back at you: "If the thread isn't for you, just leave and find one that is."
Sheesh, I've been saving this up for days. I kept starting a post, but stopping because it's not worth it, and it still isn't worth it, but I can't keep my mouth shut anymore.
For better or worse, the dev team has done a stellar job in making this game hyper-accessible and familiar to WoW players -- which is necessary for making it a financial success (at least short term)
Now that they have the WoW players subbing, I hope they branch out from this 'marketing phase' and start incorporating some of the great design concepts that FFXI and FFXIV 1.23 had and make this game a long-term success.
Its not that difficult.
Ease them in slowly.. make the content 'optional' for a while... but interesting and rewarding.
Start cutting the 'flashiness' (glows, radical weapon designs, etc) out of the vertical grind stuff and instead add it to the difficult-to-obtain horizontal content.
Make alternate iLvl >95 gear that gives buffs to certain abilities like 1.23 AF, or has procs -- like 1.23 primal weapons had. But it needs to be more challenging to obtain than grind/rinse/repeat.. or memorize boss pattern. There needs to be some RNG to it *evilgrin* and it needs to cover a wide spectrum of gameplay. The point is the players don't HAVE to pursue it, and the more challenging it is, the more prestigious the items will be for those who obtain them.
People will work for items if they are interesting and rare, if not necessarily the most powerful. For a clear example, watch people flock to Odin or Behemoth FATEs to get worthless iLvl50 gear/bardings/furnishings. It's the RARITY that attracts them to it... The devs just need to harness this interest and energy and incorporate it into endgame.
Back in FFXI, relics were a total pain to obtain.. I never got one, but I enjoyed seeing other players with them as they proved it could be done... it was a far-fetched dream that made the player think that there was a vast ceiling for growth in the game, a way to 'touch the sky', even if they personally never reached it. <--- That is what ARR is missing right now. **
Instead we have growth gated by patches. And that gets old fast.
**Not to get too political/philosophical... But what we are seeing in ARR is a clear demonstration of the differences between 'Freedom' and 'Equality'. ARR is a game bent towards 'Equality'. Though many people like the idea of 'Equality' and pay it lip-service - in reality, 'Equality' is stifling and it oppresses in order to achieve equilibrium.
'Freedom' on the other hand, allows potential to be realized. It opens the doors and allows dreamers to go as far and as high as their effort, talent, persistence and dedication will fuel them - as a result, there will always be disparity between those who pursue their goals and those who settle for less. Note that those who would champion Freedom must be free of Envy -- because Envy is the the path that leads away from Freedom and towards Equality.

See, this is the kind of thing we're expecting when we post here. Not necessarily that we only want to see agreement, but this post is non-judgmental, not demeaning the OP, and opening the avenue to real discussion.
Anyway, yeah, I loved the fact that 2.0 was designed to be accessible, since I'm not the best gamer out there, and you make a good point about 'marketing phase.' That's one of the reasons I haven't given up all hope yet. I'd like to think that the dev team has a long term plan and I'd like to give them the benefit of my patience since I've supported them for so long.
I would love them to do this, which is more inclined with horizontal progression. But again, it will not work, these forums will explode.
The casual player base will whine to no end about it being too hard...they don't have as much time to play, why can't they get it as well in a shorter amount of time...etc.
I think that kind of mentality is what holds the potential of this game back. The way it is now, there's hardly any sense of accomplishment once you've completed something. Very little moments of overcoming obstacles to reach your goal. Everything's far too simple in a sense. Casual or Hardcore, as long as you keep playing, you'll eventually complete everything the game has to offer. Not enough content requires any significant amount of effort. There're only patterns the players need to memorize, and few of them will feel the satisfaction of discovering those patterns since all of the information is already out there and is pretty much expected to be studied beforehand.
Monotony is a word I keep bringing up because it describes a large amount of the content currently available. It's not enough to keep us engaged. That's why there's been a lot of these threads lately. That's why we keep voicing our opinions, hoping that they'll be heard and be taken into consideration. We're trying to help a game that we do love and want to keep loving. There's a lot that can be done to improve this game and keep people like ourselves wanting to play.
Someone mentioned variety earlier. That's one of my favorite words. It's something I adore. Especially in video games, because it makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable. If this game could reach a state where monotony is a word that I can no longer associate with it, I would happily renew my subscription at a moment's notice.

Why would they? Do casuals complain about not having Allagan weapons? True casuals are well-accustomed to not having the best gear, after all.
No, the Casual/Mid-Core base *which I consider myself a part of* will either: A) realize it's not worth the effort, and follow the more general path to endgame gear (ie, the path we have now). or B) dedicate their time exclusively to the task of obtaining the gear - to the abandonment of most other content.
If I had to guess, I'd wager that the "Elitist/Powergamers" will be the real complainers.
The Ultra-Hardcore/Completionist types (Mostly Japanese, if FFXI was any indicator) will work their asses off for it and after a long time, considerable hard work, and some luck, they'll get it.
But the 'Elitist/Powergamers' will whine about how they can't Get all the things because it takes more than above-average hours and brute-force to achieve -- No instant gratification/epeen enhancement will ruffle their feathers a bit.
It'll be humbling for most of the elitists to not have the Best-in-Slot within their reach, and most would agree that people with humility are pleasant and easy to get along with~
If you don't like it, move on... nobody want's to hear your one-sided OPINION about the game.
World doesn't feel dead/boring to me actually, the music is nice, the plants move, the rivers/water look amazing and the lighting works nicely with each zone, they are breathtaking if anything. They don't feel dead at all, from fishing, mining, cutting trees, running around doing quests/fates and watching the weather change.. again, how does this feel dead? let me guess, you're a FFXI veteran (i am too) but I remember hopping on a chocobo and taking 10 minutes just to run through a zone, a zone with nothing but plains and boring grass/rocks everywhere... no thanks, take your nostalgia somewhere else.
So would you have prefered me to approach it with rose tinted glasses? The idea is to get to the issues and bring them to light and get them adressed, not to sit High Fiving" the Dev Team over a game that may be in danger of being forced into the Free to Play Market to break even on its developing expenses.
Yes they have done things right, some of which I pointed out, but they want to know /Why/ the players are Exiting, so that's the feedback mainly provided.
