Ugh everything in this post is 100% wrong
Considering they still support PS2 for FFXI, I'd say this is very unlikely, if not entirely impossible. Which is a shame, sure, but to play devil's advocate I'd have to say it was clear going into this (long before official release) that PS3 is a part of FFXIV. Is there a precedent for anything like this anyway, a large P2P Japanese MMO to drop support of a platform that the game launched on? If so, I'd be interested to know how it worked out.
Why is it that so many think that if you're on ps3 that you can't afford a PC? I don't play on a PC or own a gaming PC but it's certainly not because i can't afford one. I have no knowledge of tech when it comes to PC's. I know nothing about them. That is why i just buy consoles and never bothered to buy a PC. Just put in a game and play, nice and simple, just like me. No nerd stuff to learn, no need to worry if the system can handle it. Just pop in the disc and play, could it be any easier? The only thing that has made me even remotely consider getting a PC was for game mods, other than that, i feel a console is suited perfectly for what i need.
And Mortucus if you have an issue with consoles, you probably should have found an MMO that was PC only. Not trying to sound rude, just i don't think SE will drop support for consoles ever. There are tons of MMO's for PC only players. The search shouldn't be too difficult.
I don't mind it being on ps3. I would like (as a high end PC owner) the option for a high res texture pack for PC owners though. I'm already at Max settings and running just fine I want moar pretty!
Well i know it's not just my ps3, so you should count yourself lucky. Although i never get 9000 errors as well. I mean i did around the release of the game, but i haven't in a very long time. But crashing has really picked up tremendously. In like maybe 10 hours of play, i had 3 game crashes. 1 in each of the cities infact. Usually just before i'm about to go into a new area. My brother has also been getting game crashes a lot on his ps3. I assumed it was my ps3 since it was one of the first models, but even changing to the 320GB slim which is only 4 months old, and still have issues. :(
This made me laugh. Casuals and console players are the main reason current day MMOs have been dumbed down to this current level HA! If you can't see that, you are blind. The tears that flow because of current difficulties would pale if most of you played the old school Everquest. Most of you probably wouldn't have made it out of the newbie zone.
On the technology side, the main reason this game is held back is because of the toaster PS3. These super small zones, small overworld map, wild areas that are one of the tamest I have ever seen in an MMO. Heck most of the mobs don't even agro you when you get near them! The silly menus are the way they are because of the toaster PS3. Small group design, small raids, and everything instanced haha.
YEA YEA, the PS3 had nothing to do with all of that. :D:rolleyes:
Um... No. On both accounts. I really don't see PS3 support being dropped anytime soon, especially with so much popularity the PS3 has. Once the PS4 has been out two years or longer, had a couple price drops, and is much more affordable to the average gamer, and the PS3 is made a distant memory then they'll probably drop support for the system. But right now there are still many more PS3 owners than PS4 owners so if they'd be shooting themselves in the foot with those suggestions. Maybe rework the graphics and interface a little but I still wouldn't see them dropping support in the near or distant future.
Unless the OP is prepared to pay for every singles PS3 players PS4, he has no right to say that. In fact, to begin with, most people play it on ps3 because of budget issues not to mention that they would be unsupporting a game that they released no longer than 7 months ago.
Oh OP is also being extremely spoiled, dramatic and focused about the PS3 graphic capability.
Blatant lie.

I play with a ps3 tank, and he's one of the better tanks I've seen in this game.
Your logic flawed.
Why does this have 50 likes?
I have to agreed with OP. They never should have released it on the ps3 to begin with. It should have been PC with ps4 upcoming.
No one can expect to use the same PC for 7-8 years on new games and expect it to work correctly and still look good. That being said, the ps3 came out on November 17, 2006.
So why dumb down a new game for an 8 year old counsel when the ps4 was so close to release.
I do enjoy this game, but anyone that says ps3 limitations do not effect the rest of us are lying to them selves.
I think it's time this community showed some appreciation for PS3 players and SE's decision to bring it to the platform. The community would be half the size it is now without them, maybe less, and you're DF que's would be about 4 hours long. I don't ask what platforms my party are on, but on the occasions it's come up in conversation it has usually been about 2-4 members of the group.
What you constantly claim to be a limitation is in large part what gave the game legs in the first place. Have some damn respect.
That's not how duty finder queues work. Even if you remove half the playerbase (not that I think PS3 players account for half the playerbase, probably closer to a third) the proportion of tanks/heals/dps is the same, so queue lengths would be the same. Heck, I'd be willing to bet there are more DPS on PS3 than the other roles because of how unenjoyable the tanking and healing is at 20fps on a gigantic 720p UI with a gamepad. So removing PS3 players would probably speed up queues! Do it SE!
I don't care if you're on PC or PS3, if you can dodge shit and do your job well I'm going to take you in my raids but to say that there's very little difference between the 2 is just crazy, or you might be a die hard sony PS3 fanboy.

Plenty of people out there, both PC and PS3, don't know what they're doing. The same can be said for good players.
I play on both PC and PS3, and that second video from IGN is an absolute joke. Looks like they are playing without a HDMI cable.
Honestly, the PC version is obviously silky smooth and crisper but the difference is nothing to write home about, just the usual difference between a console and PC game. I play happily on both.
You play on an imported japanese version... what does that prove other than you belong to a very small minority that understands enough japanese to do so? The majority of players couldn't do that... and I don't honestly understand why anyone would play on ps2 when basically any pc sold in the last few years could run that game very well.
I agree also that it should never have been released for PS3, especially with the PS4 release so close (and apparently on a much easier platform to port to) the fact that ps3 will hold this game back in the future frustrates me to no end. I experienced the same frustration though with XI being held back by PS2 for years and years. I imagine we'll deal with the same crap this time around because too many people will only be able to play on a ps3.
PS3.. It is probably the PS3 that's responsible for the LACK of foot prints made when on a SNOWY terrain.
Good riddance if they stop support for the PS3. MMORPGS don't belong on consoles.
Many PS3 games play at 30 fps... that is normal. Character animations are limited on purpose... How does either of those things have any effect on you?
Truth is the majority of the anti-PS3 people here (including you) don't know anything about computers, programing, or business. You guys need to give it up. All you are doing is making yourselves look stupid.
The rerelease of FFX is going to suck... it was made for ps2 so its limited to what the ps2 can do and is going to look like poo.
RIGHT? Isn't that how it works? Yup it is...
FFXIV is in trouble for the same reason... /sigh
The difference is huge, and most people claiming that there's little difference are just lying to themselves (or did not watch those videos in 1080p). I have both the PC and the PS3 version and I've only played the PS3 version once. With my group I never have any trouble at all killing Twintania on the first attempt every week, but one day I decided I wanted to sit in the comfort of my sofa and try it on the PS3. That was the first time I'd ever been hit by Twintania's dives and the last time I ever played on PS3. As the OP says, it looks like an absolute disaster, frame rate is horrendous, and in all honesty it had no business being released.
Most PS3 players started on PS3 because they cannot afford mid-range PCs that can run the game, so they've never really experienced the game the way PC players have, and that's perfectly understandable. It's no doubt that to them the game runs "perfectly fine", and they have no problem with it, because they have never really seen the PC version in action, but as a PC player that goes to PS3, it's just an utter absolute nightmare.
Do I agree with the OP that SE should drop support for PS3 users? Of course not. Will I ever bring a PS3 player to something like Titan Extreme or Twintania? Hell no, not unless I'm selling the run to them.
So because you stand in bad stuff SE should stop letting people play on PS3... got it.
I one shot titan ex. I play on a ps3. In fact people ask for me to come help them for titan HM, and primal exs because... HAHA.. I don't die.
Turns out not being bad has more to do with it than the system you are on.
Fact is, the PS3 version has permanent fps issues, while looking bad and skipping animation frames. Sure, it is on purpose, because the system is weak, but that doesn't change the facts.
You called a guy who said that the PS3 version has fps issues a liar and everyone who thinks it has issues an idiot even though he stated a fact. Your backpaddling is quite hilarious to see.
Funny how I only "stand in bad stuff" when I got on the PS3. Again, as someone who plays primarily on PC and 1 shots all 5 turns of Coil with no problems and 1 shots all Ex primals with no problem at all, I can safely say the problem is not me.
Looking at your gear, you're primarily geared with Mythology, most of your allagan comes from lolturn 1, you do however have a piece from turn 4. So I'll make you this offer:
Go defeat twintania with your immense PS3 skills, record it and post it on here. If you can do that I'll admit I was wrong, I'll stfu, and I'll leave.
Edit: Also, looking at the first line of your post, I'm going to assume you're on here trolling for your own amusement or you're just an idiot. If you'll look near the bottom of my post, I said that I do not agree that SE should drop support. Please read my full post before trying to act like you know what you're talking about, instead of just spewing PS3 fanboy nonsense.
The PS3 is static hardware, and this MMO will likely run for more than 10 years. So anything they want to add 10 years from now will have to be able to run on PS3. So the size/quantity of content could end up being limited by it.
People aren't just concerned for no reason. This very situation is playing out in FFXI. The FFXI devs recently added an option to toggle display of people's armor, not so you could pretend you're wearing X-Ray specs and see everyone in their underwear, but because the PS2 can't handle displaying all the armor in the game. They are constantly having to spend time trying to make it so any new thing they add doesn't set PS2s on fire.
False, and everything about your statement is nullified in my eyes because you have this mindset.
The majority of PS3 players on Final Fantasy XIV play on consoles because they have never had a need for PC. This is very likely their first MMO, and if they own a PS3 and bought Final Fantasy XIV they are likely a Final Fantasy fan before an MMO fan. This game was built for those very people and that is one of the primary reasons FFXIV was designed so that it can be played almost entirely solo (without need for FC etc). Yoshi-P has stated this many times.
You're elitism couldn't be more clear. I play on both PC and PS3 and enjoy playing on both as I have already said.
does the OP realize that there are plenty o PC users with standard average PC (not gaming or top of line) who's game is essentially like running on PS3. you want PS3 support dropped because you think it holds the game back, it does not any more then wanting to hit casual market where many players do not have top end PCs.
PS3 support will not be dropped, but DX11/PS4 clients do not need to be (and from what I know will not be) restricted due to the PS3 and current PC client which will likely be used for people with low end PCs
