That's because in most MMO's Auto attack is just an afterthought. Sure, it's there. Is it even a consideration? Nope. Doesn't generally do damage worth paying attention to and serves no other purpose, combat is all about using your abilities.

As of now, that's not what AA looks to do in XIV. It controls our TP gauge, and thus our level of downtime. If we have a consistent stream of TP that we don't have to worry about running out of, then sure, it'll be fine... but they why have TP at all?

Never base combat around something you, the player, aren't even actively a part of.

Now, if it does turn out that we can just hit skills throughout battle, then I won't complain, AA will just sit in the background, which is fine. It'll work just like City of Heroes combat does. I just don't see that being the case at this point.

Auto attack is stupidly slow, the current battle system seems like it would be much more fun.. /welcome back all the people who afk while partying.

I at least hope they have a way to disable auto attack, because as an archer sometimes you don't want to keep shooting arrows if you're watching your hate

I love this, now the actions are instant, instead of waiting for 5-10 seconds for provoke to activate, or getting stuck on invigorate. With auto attack, people can focus on other actions rather than focusing on pressing attack. That last part with the pug stun move then moving behind to sneak attack reminded me of thief, totally not possible with the stamina bar. That's how we used to kill NMs as thief, sleep bolt then move behind, sneak attack+weapon skill.

Pretty sure Archer won't have auto attack unless they gave archer secondary weapons like daggers. As for it being slow, that's what haste skills from lancer and maybe haste spell and gear later on are for.

Pretty sure EVERYONE is going to have Auto Attack, otherwise what's the point? It will still use the same amount of arrows, regardless.

I don't think Arch will change at all, probably why they were left out of that video like the DoM are.

However if they do get a auto attack i think it will be like ffxi with basic dagger or axe attacks.

Well since they are playing with TP instead of stamina, it should be a bit more balance. Can't revolve around the TKO full stamina combos.

archers like all other DoW need first build the TP requirements, so they need to go a round or 5 in fisticuffs first.

personally i love AA..One of best win of FFXI is that you can chat during a fight without stop fighting or other.

Someone said that AA is boring....

It's a true shot..but personally I think that continuosly hit a key is more boring...

And sometimes is a sort of issue when you write a word in chat and you can't immediantly hit 1 for atk becouse cursor was in text space XD

I did predict that there would be another delay pass the mid june schedual though. also said there would be no talk at all of classes being added in 1.18.

I hope archer has dagger/axe as basic attack in melee range instead of making them just auto shoot arrows... XI had ranger down pact perfect the way it was played.

not sure if i will like it yet, my biggest prob is people already playing this game like the last years of ffxi. afk half the time and no chain and bursts. i can play any class in that game half afk and was hoping for something different this time, specially since the game started off with a system that was more what i was expecting. i loved ffxi though specially at launch so it can work, but the last years were way less exciting for grinding. all the new mmo's comming out aren't even adding a target let alone auto attack so i quess we ill se how this turns out.

but either way how will this work with togling threw mobs? will it auto attack all of them while they sleeping or ones u don't want to attack get hit by it?

actually it was possible before, I ve done it, the major difference is that normally you can only do it if the monster is doing a WS, because otherwise it turns to face you. in this video the goblin was behaving pretty curiously, im thinking he was just a test dummy. his Auto attacks were some times fast sometimes slow, he was slow react to player movement in the lnc video, and apparently in the pug video.

From what you said it looks like you werent managing stamina well, doesnt matter though, it will be gone soon.

I assume they will he adding things like the haste spells and gear with haste on it as well as weapons with reduced delay that will speed things up.

But then are we going to end up with haste or gtfo all over again.

I think I posted in this thread at like 4:30a.m. when I woke up so I was pretty grouchy. Anyways the video looks cool, but that better not be all of the stuff battle-wise they implement into 1.18.

If you had to do all kinds of razamataz tricks to pull of a move the system was in need of improvement this is a big step ahead of the current battle system.
Now with weapon delay it adds another level of strategy when it comes to what weapons you use more power with higher single hit dmg/tp build or more speed with lower delay.
Hope they add items so you dont see every pug lnc arch ect using the same crap as each other for say lvl 30 40 ect just because there is no reasonable alternative.
I guess when you can slot weapons/armor with the materia system its gonna be nice.

Not if it means losing TP+attk in the process. Depends on the overall balance of things.

I rather have a good TP damage combo, on say a pug who seems to be sitting on butloads of TP, as oppose to a glad, who starved for TP because his TP usage is so freaking high.

This is not FF11, where TP is 12-18, and 100% is the same as 199%, etc. Not to mention you get TP for a lot more things (and lose as fast)

TP is going to be an actual tactical consideration. There shouldn't be a situation where you're sitting on TP or drain of TP if it plays out the way we think.

TP is going to be the new front man offensively and maybe even defensively.

Id rather a faster auto attack with lower damage, than a slow auto attack and higher damage, which is how it is now.

How is it now? spamming 1111 until your tp fills and wait for stamina to catch up while casting cure?

I rather have slow AA, because the delay of skills would offset any speed anyway. As long as TP keeps up, I get high WS damage modifiers.

I bet you didn't play FF11 pre-TP nerf (when TP from WS can charge up half a bar). Everyone used high delay weapons. TP > speed.

its not razamatza tricks its likely either the monster AI became a lot more stupid, or the goblin was just a test dummy for showcasing AA. his stun wore off, but he just stood there and waited to be hit. when the lancer moves to the side it stayed looking forward.

essentially dont expect to do that in the actual game, or expect mobs to be really slow on facing the target who has hate.

Switching to the delay mechanic will hurt for some people, but will be better gameplay over time.

People want longer, more strategic battles, people gonna get.

Not really that different from FF11 or even wow, etc. Half the time, the demo video was trying to select the massive skill list to do something.

We'll have to see how the job system comes up.

Again it's tactical. To save up TP for big combos, or to use them. The TP gain as it is is pretty decent in the video, and if that goblin was attacking any faster then the "weird" AI, then you would even have more TP to play with.

Not going to change even if you up the speed. Stamina bar was by far slower then the video. It was all or nothing in stamina world (and then just to stick TP made it worse)

The animation delay alone is already nearly maxing the attack speed.

i was saying that weapon delay stat and type of weapon should control that like a 2hand axe would have a high delay/dmg and a dagger would be fast delay low dmg of course how it should be

just wanted to point out how slow the auto attack looks, hope they fix it ^^

SO many people say "be patient", you guys are so impatient its amazing. Why don't you all wait 'til we see some party play, solo play is boring as hell whether auto attack was fast or slow. I'll take slow AA if it means more tactical party play any day...this said however from the video we saw AA was faster than before it was removed because soon as you run out of stamina its like you hit a brick wall.

Haste, from weapons.. maybe?

A Sword = 1.0 haste
B Sword = 1.5 haste

my personal opinion is that i don't really care how fast AA is. they're so many different abilities in the game that makes up for the slow AA.

with AA being implemented the way it is, having a fast attack speed would mean that you would have to wait for AA so u cant use ur abilites which i can see cause some problems. its going to be a balancing act but im more on the side of chaining up abilities rather then sit there and watch my character attack really fast

hopefully they keep the crit animations with AA to add some variation into it.

idk why people are complaining AA looks slow, 3-4 seconds for an attack isn't that slow at all considering haste isn't even in the game yet.

because when you swing and stand around looking at the mob for 3-4 seconds it just looks stupid. A quicker AA would be a lot more interesting to watch, something maybe that looks like an actual battle. There's no reason really to have it be as slow as it is except to make the game seem slower. They could make the AA faster and balance it by lowering damage and TP gain. In the end attacks would do as much damage, and gain as much TP in the same amount of time, it would just be more exciting to look at.

I'm going to have to agree with the auto-attack looking slow. Mentioning FFXIV is pretty much a sin around my friends due to its bad start, but I went ahead and showed a friend this anyway talking about how they're overhauling the game, and sadly I agree with what he said. It looks pretty (ie. weaponskills), but the combat looks way too slow.

Auto Attack is looking good for it to be in development, Weapon skills are looking good too. Keep up the Good Job Square, can't wait to see it when is implemented and ready.

They might make weapons have different delays.
