That was just a joint venture to publish a handful of games in the USA. Each of those was made by square in japan by square. You need to separate publisher from game producer.
OH! and JUST IN CASE my post wasn't enough. Here's a bit of a description for you of the little history of this company.... A little history lesson.
Under the terms of the agreement, Electronic Arts owned 30 percent of Square EA, and Square owned 30 percent of EA Square.
Square EA proved to be very successful, and during its five years of existence released a higher proportion of localized Square titles to the American market than ever before. EA Square, on the other hand, was somewhat less successful, and struggled to make an impact on the Asian videogame market, which has been traditionally difficult for American game developers to break into. EA Square had also developed a game, X-Squad, which was released for the PlayStation 2 during its launch.
Following the announcement of the merger between Square and former competitor Enix in 2003, Square purchased back Electronic Arts' stake in Square EA, and folded it back into Square Soft, Inc., its North American subsidiary, which was subsequently renamed Square Enix U.S.A., Inc. (now Square Enix, Inc.) and continues to publish Square Enix's titles in North America.
If this is true only the Twelve can save us.
It's bad enough that they turned into Square-Enix.
forgive me if this has already been said, but.. EA??!! LOL. expect FFXIV: ARR: Late night clubbing edition! etc etc etc... along with a transition into a freemium business model. No thanks, that does not belong here.
They failed the first time around and square purchased out there shares. What makes you think it wouldn't be the same? This time they would bring SE down with them. I'd have not one ounce of faith in this happening again. First, they didn't make a single good game. All they did was localize a few already successful games. Based on EA's history outside of Square I'd like it even less. They stifle innovation at every turn and only seek to make games "Accessible" with some sort of hamstringed multiplayer mode. They didn't do well the first time, and I'm afraid of what they'd try to do in the future.
I have no idea why you hold EA or the short lived Square EA in such high regards.
Do you really think square wouldn't have found another way to publish them if EA wasn't interested? I feel like you're trying to give EA more of the credit than they deserve here.
Also, a developer going to a new company is cause for doom and gloom. How many mergers or acquisitions in gaming actually worked out for the gamer? Honestly Square-enix is the only one I can really think of and even that had some side effects. At least they kept most of their IPs afloat.
A few for consideration...
Blizzard joined activation and entered the era of stupid decisions for their games. Prime example being the real money AH on Diablo 3. They only care about money now, but back in the day Blizzard was incredibly customer focused.
EA has purchased many, shuttered a ton, and stifled innovation for the few that remained afloat. They are a deathknell for IPs no matter how successful.
Square being purchased by anyone is an extreme cause for alarm. Things will change, and not necessarily in a good way. Historically...a bad way.
EA buys SE:
Teleporting costs $3.99
Changing classes $1.99
Logging out at the Inn $2.99
Allaghan Bundle $99.99
You think squares games have been lackluster lately ,wait till EA gets their hands on it.
Every company activison buys becomes utter trash. Look at blizzard. A once great gaming company, falls in pretty much every game they were known to be good for.
Diablo 3 was a true masterpiece, not sure what you're getting at.

Hopefully not EA or Activision, because I refuse to play anything they're connected to.

PWE is such a godawful company.
If they bought Square (which is a laughable impossibility since they seem to just barely afford keeping themselves afloat) we would NEVER get updates, the hacking and RMT problems would be far worse and what little content we do get would be locked behind microtransactions and lottery.
I checked the news and there isn't any rumor about SE wanting to sell, or other companies looking to buy them.
EA scum of the gaming world…
I never heard of theses rumours before but in any case I have always wanted Sony to buy SE, if there is one company that will do it justice, it would be Sony. On the other hand, any other company in the OP list = auto quit, I refuse to pay Perfect World, EA, Activation & Micro a cent for anything to do with gaming.
EA as in the "simcity" EA? Fuq them!
This is a troll thread.
If they do I think I'll never buy another square-enix product again.
Any one but MoneySoft
SE have a lot more going for them than just Final Fantasy. They also own a number of other companies.. just because a couple of games flopped doesn't mean they'll be selling
if it was real say good by to this game the first day it cost them money or not make the numbers they wanted. EA love pulling the plug ASAP.
Please let none of them win, they all suck.
SE will never sell.
yes to sony, no to the rest. hell to the no
Reaction to OP.

Troll food here! :p And comments to other posters
Sony - ok ; Microsoft - see below ; perfect world - who? ; EA - new FF every year, with one new thing period! buy FF-2015 and not have any changes until FF-2020! ; Activision - Final Fantasy FPS... wtf...
Fixed for you. Everyone would get banned within a month for some BS. cussing over XBL is against ToS/ToU
Also, anyone else realize the entire movie is actually nodded to on PLD/GLA50?
I'd rather have a FF6-2
I don't really care for any of the company's but if EA bought it I think I would cry my self to sleep every night. swtor still brings a tear to my eye >_<
Perfect World, home of the lockbox where you pay $1.25 per key for a 1% chance at the best drop, average cost to get said best drop is 125 dollars. Yeah, let's bring on the PWE purchase. Everyone can play for "free" except when they're dumping $100+ on lockbox items, or buying PWE cards for ZEN so they can pay to win their hearts out and never have to grind ever again. We all can play on just one server with multiple instances, and even pay sub fees anyways to have priority on login ques and other things I forget about. The idea of this possible future(anything is possible) for FFXIV makes me truly excited. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to find a rope, razor blade, or a shotgun to prove how excited I really am about this.
laughed at Perfect World, only if you want this game to become a wasteland in 3 months ;D
