And when exactly did they "bend knee"? They simply released on tuesday games that had an independent release date in the US. This one will not.

PS: america doesn't constitute the 70% of the market share of the FInal Fantasy franchise, it doesn't even get near to the 30%.

Which one? XIV? It was released on a Tuesday already? At least the CE. Or are you taking the date from the website as fact now?

As for market share, I didn't say Final Fantasy. I was referring to video games, although 70% was still slightly high estimate. The top selling game for this week in NA sold about 550k copies. The top selling game in Japan for reference sold 57k. Europe does have some pull, clearly, as well.

Added trivia, where did XIV sell the most copies?

Basically, this news statement has no source and has no precedence to back it up. Timing wise, I think it's fine, this is another 3 patches away. If no official word by this time WED, I'd put this rumor to bed as just that.

What is says is basically that (quoting Wada as a source) the PS3 release of Final Fantasy XIV will be on August the 18th, and together with it the monthly fees will be restored for the PC version, given that the content will have reached satisfactory levels.

Though, this isn't exactly a random blog of a random chinese, as 17173.com is one of the biggest MMO networks in China (you can compare it to Zam), and SE considered them relevant enough to let them have an interview with Yoshida that they published last month (it actually includes a couple interesting tidbits, like further mentions of PvP).

While I would be definitely surprised to see the PS3 version THAT early, i thought I'd report it and let people believe what they will :D

Anyway, granted I feel this 'information' is just rumor, being posted on the site might have some relevance on XIV's progress. XIV has changed quite a bit since the actual beta, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the changes even if it takes longer than August. SE, keep up the good work and best of luck to you!

My point has been that starting a thread based on unconfirmed information, on top of the fact that its in a different language, doesn't contribute anything to the overall discussion of the game. Everything is just rumors and speculation, and that just feeds more ignorance and misinformation. Threads like this devolve into multiple subjective and useless posts arguing about east vs west MMO, QQing about lack of content, Yoshi-P vs Tanaka, or WoW clone nonsense.

As Ash said, there are somethings that kind of make sense if it were true, and some things that don't. But that is completely irrelevant because it is all baseless. We know the free trial can't last forever, but wait until there is an official announcement. I'd think that these forums would be for more constructive topics like suggestions for meaningful content/changes or strategy discussions.

If Tanaka were still in charge, he'd be blaming the foreign fanbase for spreading misinformation.

But would it be satisfactory for new players or launch worthy? I think that is what they are aiming for, enough content to justify a monthly sub to someone just starting out. I could see August as the PS3 and monthly sub implementation.

Maybe there will be a cash shop that opens on the 14th of august.

The first person was trolling. You are just grossly misinformed. Games released in China will never share a server with the rest of the world. This means, that it doesn't matters if a game is released in China, they can get the NA or JP version and RMT it up. (Think of FFXI, never released there yet they had stranglehold on RMT activites)

Globally speaking in an online gaming sense, 33% of that revenue comes from China. To not release there, when you already had plans too (And probably servers in China purchased) is leaving a LOT of money on the table.

Also, World of Warcraft's economy is so bad that no plays it anymore amirite? (Note: In The9's version of WoW, you do not have an option to log into EU or NA servers. For gilfarmers to work, they need to purchase NA/EU versions of the game.

No, the Crysta is so that they can abstract away currency and allow you to buy playtime points regardless of fluctuations in world markets. I'm probably going to get the details wrong here, but there was a point where EU players were registering FFXI in the US and paying US subscription fees in converted dollars and coming out cheaper than paying the actual EU subscription price.

Plus, you can't buy gift cards for an FFXI subscription. You *CAN* buy gift cards for Crysta.

That's why Nintendo has Wii points, that's why Microsoft has MS points, that's why SE has Crysta. The fact that Microsoft sells MS points in irregular sizes is a completely separate form of douchebaggery. And yes you can buy PSN giftcards, but AFAIK DCUO does not deduct from your PSN wallet, it requires its own payment system, so in terms of payment processing it operates in a similar manner to PlayOnline.

I have no idea if they're going to implement a cash shop but it's not why they have Crysta. WOW doesn't need a faux currency to have a cash shop.

Since this pointless thread was highjacked, I'm not sure this is going to matter. But for what its worth, consider the following 2 online sources for FFXIV PS3.

So unless it comes directly from SE or is backed up by a credible SE source, no reason to get worked up about it.

Actually they did say there would be features you could purchase with Crysta. But it was the stuff like Server transfers when they become available.

Before Christmas 2011 would be a more reasonable estimate if they want to have a chance of sucessfully attracting people to the game. And that would have to be with an announcement of an expansion that will give the game a massive overhaul.

I also read that that XIV would be in China but ran through Shanda, and would have it owns servers. I wonder if this is true. Its not that I'm distrustful about China or distrustful to Chinese, I just hate the lack of information about a game I play, when it comes to lore or dungeons or battle adjustments don't spoil me, but when it comes to money I would like to know if I have to pay at the end of August or not so I can prepare some crap lol.

The Chinese version will not run on the international servers. The Chinese government doesn't (tries to) allow any non-state run form of communication. This is to control the flow of information, and subdue any possible talks about overthrowing the government...it makes it easier to lie to your people. The only reason SE does business in such a country is for the massive amounts of (potential) money. I personally wouldn't do any such business in that country for ethics reasons, but that would also be unfair to the Chinese people.

Just remember China = one effed up place that has more violations of human rights every day than any middle east country ever will.

Amazon UK still aren't listing a date. In fact, the only place that sells new copies of FFXIV for PC in this country seems to be Zavvi (£4.85!).

Seems a little odd that all 3 are also saying dates in August. I think there would be a "proper" announcement on Lodestone and gaming media though if it were definite.

If online sites that sell the game are displaying an exact date then that is probably it since SE needs to send the final build off to make massive amounts of copies on blu-ray disks. To get sufficient numbers this takes weeks, and a spot at the plant needs to be reserved. I'm sure an official announcement will come soon.

Although the US Amazon.com predicted December 21 2020!

Very true if Aug was the ps3 date... Who would beta test? It would be a really pointless test. We know what happened during the last test after all.

If PS3 does not have at least a 3-6 month Beta test I will consider it a insult as SE trying to pull same crap 2x in a row. No more of this BS about having a Internal team doing the testing. Give this game the proper Beta it deserves and take honest critiques from that. Don't make the same mistakes 2x SE, we want to pay for this game we want it to succeed we don't want WOW 2.0 or Rift. If you build it people will come...

The PS3 is not a computer. FFXIV is not a new game, it's been in existence for 9 months post launch. All fixes done through the PC version would be present in the PS3 version. The only thing stopping the ps3 version, which players cannot test, is graphically and memory wise. It does not need a long beta test period. It doesn't need to be just a few weeks so to say, but it doesn't need to be a quarter of a year.

I'm not an expert on these matters but isn't the purpose of beta testing an MMO to test load balancing, report bugs, and comment on features? Haven't we been doing that for 8 months now? I know part of the Crystals Tool Engine is for easy portability between consoles and PC. A beta test period may not have to happen and if so, it could start in July and last for a month or so and that would be plenty...maybe.

I would imagine its because there is only a couple other MMOs available on consoles. Regardless of the state of FFXIV is in now, the PS3 version will have much more to offer. Add to that one of the few consoles MMOs, a FF title, people that dont have good enough PCs to run it and you have a product that will sell.

You know... there's a simple matter of if it is going to come out and not rumored we can always check stores like Game stop they tend to have information on what games are scheduled to come out a few months in advance.

a PS3 beta would not need to be any longer then a month or so...... any more then that and it gets silly.

Definitely not "silly". More time devoted to tweaking and fixing = better game at launch. And the transition to console is a big one, there's a lot of things to consider.
