I think Summoners are fine.

Never use Ruin II in your normal rotation. It eats up too much mana. Most of the time if you keep your usual 4 DoTs and Ruin I until you need to reapply, you should be fine. Use Aetherflow everytime on CD. Multi DoTing however will run you dry faster.

Yeah, the only time I really use Ruin II is if Im moving or if a mobs almost dead, I just throw one in there.

I would like to point out that damage parsing for dots is currently broken. if you add up rotational potency for the dps classes, summoners are a bit gimp. this is coming from a lancer who looks at parsers a lot.

Are these people seriously saying SMN's aren't good DPS?

1.The Dislike of Pet Aesthetics
I actually would like the Egis to look more like the original primals, even if they are in a smaller form. I don't mind the looks, but was hoping they would be more in line with the awesome primal looks.

2: The belief that the class is too DoT based and not pet based enough.
This I agree with. The class plays like a WoW warlock. WoW warlock was great, but I expected all of the 'spells' summoners get to be based on their pets. IE, fire moves used by ifrit or earth moves by titan that I controlled as a summoner. Think ffxi summoners for a list of obvious choices. Sure, you can't give summoner but like 5-6 spells to match the other jobs. I get that. So, keeping it in line with arcanist has to be done in a certain way. However, I didn't expect a dot based WoW warlock class when I leveled up for summoner. Having said that, I am still main job Summoner right now. I don't expect this to change.

3. Boring to play.

You need to realize you have Fester - 300 Potency

You have a pet that is doing 150-200 damage (around 100 Potency attacks from Garuda I believe)

And you can cast Ruin all the while your DoTs and Pets do damage.

Your damage adds up tremendously over the course of a fight.

The summoner dps is not bad per se it just takes a lot of ramp up time to get the dps going compared to other classes something I think square will sort out. I personally feel that the pets need to be re examined because garuda is the only useful pet because of her contagion skill. The pets need to interact more with the summoner and each pet needs to fill a niche that would be useful in the group. Since many people on other gaming forums and people I have talked with ingame are disappointed with the summoner. They either expected a pet class or they find the class boring to play and switched to scholar as their main and proceeded to have more fun. Personally the summoner disappointed me from a lore standpoint and from the pet standpoint plus when it comes to rpg's I am a lore buff first most.

These days talking to people they just use the summoner class to level a bit easier.

Think about the sheer number of complaint topics compared to people who like the class? Square will most likely be looking at the summoner class and making changes I don't know what changes there will be but I feel they will do something.

Hopefully cross fingers that square will examine the pet design of the summon(someday) and personally I find playing the summoner boring. I am also applying this to black mage too since their job skills are rather lack luster the only useful one in my opinion is flare. The only thing that made me stick to black mage is the class quest(firstmost) was dam awesome from a lore standpoint and plus lots of explosions(lol).

They need to make the caster classes rotations more interesting since I have also been talking with white mages about the class being rather boring.

I personally feel scholar was the best designed caster class. Well sorry to go slightly offtopic with talking about other classes but these are my current thoughts at the moment.

A few things, does anyone actually know a true dps of a smn? The parsers that are out right now are not accurate. They are adding extra damage to current dots.

What are the opinions of ifrit vs garuda egi? I know I would like to see the ability to command your pet while casting.

How much extra damage? If you know they are at least specify what it is so we calculate how much padding it is giving

Honestly people claim parsers are doing a terrible job but no one seems to specify what or why and by how much

funny how people are now only finding out that summoners are way over the top that arguably needs to be tuned down a bit (even I thought summoners were weak as hell a few weeks ago), yet my friend has told me that in JP forums, everyone knew that summoners were already too strong even before the parsers were out.
