I think Summoners are fine.

Honestly, in my opinion, I think summoners are fine.

I see three main complaints about the class:

1.The Dislike of Pet Aesthetics
Do you REALLY want a giant pet in the middle of the already insane cluster of attack glare?

2: The belief that the class is too DoT based and not pet based enough.
Everyone would want a summoner to be THAT class who does nothing but manage a pet until they realized it would be incredibly boring compared to having your own abilities. I look at it like this as a final fantasy fanboy: I have the Bio and Ruin line of spells, and Shadow Flare, one of the cooler spells in the final fantasy series. I like the balance in this game.

3. Boring to play.
People who complain Summoners are dull and simple to play are the same ones who leave their pet on auto and refuse to manage contagion of pet positioning. They never have contagion up for transitional periods in raid fights where it shines and they re-summon their pet multiple times, losing a ton of DPS. If you want a hyper complex class that will challenge you every single fight, play monk, that class will exhaust you during raids.


I REALLY love my summoner and the class is a blast to play. I really think most of the issues people have is that the class is incredibly different from what they expect from most FF games or FFXI.

Each FF is unique, and this one is no exception.

They are more than fine. Their DPS is overpowered as it is and will most likely be turned down. They got great utility with instant combat rez and they can DPS on the move.


But I agree. That pet really needs a revamp and the class is pretty simple and straight forward in its dps cycle, no procs whatsoever

Simple solution here; Play another dps class and come back an tell me the class is fine. Yes we have utility, we have heals, we have rezzes but it doesnt overshadow the fact that the class is labled a dps job yet it doesnt do a good job of it. I honestly feel why the class is in the state it is is because it was released in the last phase of beta which to me, isnt enough time to make changes to the class.

Dragoons hit for far more and overall do more,
Black Mages blow our damage out of the water with 800+ nukes,
Bards blow us away in damage wit 400+ AUTO ATTACKS and even more with their shots+awesome utilty with songs,
Monks do tremendous damage if the player is good with the positional abilities plus stance dancing.

full suit of AK+Garuda book+DL jewelry, my 4 dots are ticking for roughly 270ish every 3 seconds, pets hitting for 150ish and ruins hitting for 150ish, while it may all sound fine an dandy, the other dps classes do overall much more.

Bard 400+ Auto Attack is only when Barrage is active.


Mages make up for a lack of auto attack by basing their skills on higher damage on weapons.


Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal.

Want me to put in mine? Every single thing I run I am #2, or #3(behind a healer) on the threat meter. Is any single instance of a threat meter an indication of DPS? No. However, if I'm generally always in that position then I'm doing something right.

I was in a Garuda HM farming group earlier, everyone relics. 5-6 minute runs. Killing Garuda before 2nd set of sisters spawned. I was always #2. Always.

And that doesn't even consider Garuda-egi who has separate threat.


Tired of people saying SMN is weak when they have no clue what they're doing.

No its not only when Barrage is Active. Go watch any coil runs from a Bards perspective and youll see their auto attacks hitting 3 times for 150 each which is easily over 400 dmg just with their auto attack. Their auto attack is hitting harder then my 4 dots all together, seem fair? I think not, Auto attack vs ability dmg.... Abilities should be doing more then auto attack and in a bard vs summoners case, that doesnt happen. Then you have Dragoons hitting just as hard. Im a bad summoner for bringing up valid points of issues the class has? Ok, sure thing bud. Thats just your opinion. Instead of putting people down, or calling ppl trolls, or bad mouthing, or whatever yoddy yoddy bs you wanna throw my way, how about we have a constructive conversation about how we can better the class instead of measuring our dicks on a forum.

I have had a constructive conversation in the past, and even posted what your rotation should be, but people either don't listen or can't do it. It's not my fault if people don't have the aptitude to play SMN, but stop saying it's bad.

The class itself and the way it plays is why its getting a bad name, not me, someone, a very small fraction of playerbase are actually on the forums. Another thing to add that the classes I mentioned above have that us summoners do not is - Auto attack - Bards auto attack hit extremely hard alone, monks hit quick as hell, Dragoons hit hard and thats just their auto attack so those are more factors that take away from our dmg.

Someone clearly doesn't know how to play or is trolling. Summoners are currently the highest DPS class by at least a 20-30% margin. You need to learn to play if you aren't beating all other DPS classes
