Lancer not able to roll "need" on lancer gear.

Anyone who has ever had to deal with the "Need" ninja looter will appreciate a game enforcement of who gets to roll on what. Everyone has been in this shoe- can't roll on something that clearly is an upgrade. However, rather than spouting off at the mouth, what would help the game developers is examples. SPECIFIC items, class/job, party make-up, etc. Manoque example was very good- would have been even better if the screen capture was made at time of roll though.

Sounds like you are leaving out stats on the item it probably has a large vitality and strength stats making it ideal for a tank and decent for a melee dps. Now while you would use it until a more specific dps item dropped the tank will use it until he gets a higher level / rarer drop that's the difference. And I can say as a tank I have had to greed several items more geared for a dps role that would have been great upgrades from my current gear. But I gladly passed it up knowing there's more ideal fear for me.

The only adjustment I would make to the way the system works is you should be able to roll need on an item if your current class is on its eligibility list.

If an item drops that is used for Glad and Lnc then let both classes roll need on it. I wouldn't be upset since the item can be used for either.

That's a warrior item not a paladin item that's why you couldn't need. Argued if you want but it's the truth.

They changed it to what's there now because of that.

Yes, some pieces can list only GLA/PLD/LNC/DRG, because those are the classes/jobs that can wear the item, but if it's intended mainly for tanks, only GLA/PLD can Need roll on it. If it's intended mainly for DPS, only LNC/DRG would be able to need lot on it instead.

The problem with this line of thinking is that there is far more often the likelyhood that people will roll Need on things they don't actually Need, nor do they ever intend to actually use. It looks nice, so they decide they'll sell it, and roll Need. Now, because being able to choose "Need" based purely on what class the item was designed for, not what classes can equip it, gives people more reason to just mash Need on everything, and if they're the only DPS, or Tank, or whatever, they'll ALWAYS win.

Also, how about the fact that we can change classes at will? What if I have Lv.50 for every class, and some item drops that a class I'm not currently could use? With an active class changing system in place, where you can change class nearly whenever you want, restricting gear distribution to this extent is ridiculous and bound to cause frustration.

If this is the case then why couldn't I roll need an a necklace that dropped in one of the dungeons that was listed as all classes but had the Str stats which as a glad I should have been able to need on? Instead a thm got it... I was like WTF?

Also as a glad I have no issue with a lancer being able to Need on gear they are able to use. If a gear lists lancer in the classes that can wear that item then they should be able to need on it period. So yea.. this needs to be addressed!

God, i'm glad it wasn't just me, i was so pissed off. Lancer's have that signature armor look. Can't have tanks wearing our gear. Every time i do dungeons I NEVER get anything besides earrings and bracelets. Come on Square enix enough with the F*** ups.

I agree completely. Just because tanks are big on defense does that mean only tanks deserve high gear? That's unfair to lancers and other dps classes. The gear looks like it's being shared and the lancer is getting the short end of the stick. Phase 3/4 lancers and gladiators had their own gear. The only way i had a chance of better gear was to GREED on it even though i clearly should be able to NEED. I was doing level 30 dungeons with level 23 gear, I'm sorry that's f'n ridiculous. All my money shouldn't go to buying new gear when clearly that's what dungeons are for.

All that aside, it's unlikely a tank is going to equip an item longer than a lancer considering that in the five dungeons I've run, I've never seen a lancer main weapon drop, while tank loot seems to be the only thing that drops.

Just did a run in Cutter's Way. No heavy armor peices dropped, but two leather chests dropped.

As a DRG, the first was a good one so naturally I hit pass so the BRD can get first dibs on good leather first since I'm hoping against hope a tank might pass on scale class armor so I can get it. ( Long shot. But being polite works right? Right? )

Fast forward to end of dungeon. A second leather chest drops. I decide to use it since the dps stats were alot better than my current, even if the defense dropped off a bit since it was leather instead of scale armor ( The Vendor bought steel scale chest. ). BRD proceeds to get upset I rolled on it.

System doesn't want me rolling on scale armor. Players get mad if I roll on leather. What am I supposed to do? Play naked?

Ah, I accidentally made my own topic about this, because searching didn't bring up this one.

This is clearly not working the way it should. There is a tier of armor that only Gladiator/Paladin/Marauder/Warrior can equip. Below this is a tier of heavy armor that also allows Lancer/Dragoon to equip it--this tier has lower defensive stats, and generally higher offensive stats. This tier of armor is specifically made for Lancers/Dragoons, yet we cannot roll Need on it.

Lancers/Dragoons suffer the highest risk of taking damage of all DPS classes, which is why we have this tier of heavy armor dedicated to us. Yet when it drops in a dungeon, we can't bloody Need it. This is, flat out, DPS gear that is always going to the Tank, because he's the only one who can Need it. It needs to be fixed. A Lancer/Dragoon in bloody Archer gear is a casualty waiting to happen.
