Me pay gud too!
IIRC, even though they're called "preorder" bonuses, they were actually inside the case, like the CE's Onion Helm that I bought w/o preordering. Here's hoping that those work in 2.0's redeem also!
EDIT: Nevermind, only the first print batch of the XIV SE had Garlond Goggles. Much like XIII with the Armguards. *shrug* If you happen to have one unused, I'd still buy it tho.
I dont see how this would "waste" company money. Its like putting a demo up on the PSN. It gives a person who might not otherwise even try the game, a chance to see if they like it. I am a huge fan and supporter of demo's. I like to try a game out before deciding i want to throw $60+ at it. An MMO is a huge commitment, providing a buddy pass/free trial to people who already are playing it gives the pass user an intro to the game and friends to play with.
If they don't give 1.0 users another buddy pass, I'm ok with that. I just didn't feel your reasons for not giving one was valid. I used my buddy pass but my buddy played it for a couple days right at release, hated it, then quit. He dosent remember his log in info but has expressed a casual interest in trying it again but does not want to buy a copy if it still "sucks". Just thought it would have been kewl if they could send another one since so much has changed and it might bring back those with the sour taste of 1.0 in their mouths.
Well final fantasy mmo's aren't really the kind of games that give free trials. Sure ffxi gave out a 15 day free trial but that was after years and the trial didn't include all the expansions (I presume). But I also think that SE wants to let new players that gave up on the game after the beta or never played it an opportunity to try it out and decide whether they like it or not. That's what I think SE hopes to accomplish at phase 4, other than further testing that is. And if you friend forgot his log in info, can't he just find it by filling out the forgot ID/password part at the log in screen? If he has a lot of emails he uses then can't he just try them all? Or the worst case, call costumer service?
Well according to a bunch of you the buddy passes only came with the Collector's Edition. Oh well, at least that settles that and I still have my Garlond Goggles n_n!
