In order for there to have been civility, the original post would have to be civil as well, instead of being a question in regards to a preconceived notion you already had; that being that the people who feel "silenced" are the only ones who may feel a certain way about the forums being better without their opposition there.
The question was disingenuous. It wasn't a "do you feel like the forums would be better if either side were more open-minded to opposing ideas?" (which yes, it would be.) It was a "do the complainers feel the forums would be better if the defenders left", which is bias and ill-spirited.
As for why people comment? Because they have something to say. This is a forum. You can't gatekeep the reactions people have to what you say.
I think everyone can agree people need to be less blind to differing opinions in order for there to be any meaningful discussion. And until that happens, every discussion will turn into a pissing contest. Including this one.
Weren't you ever told as a child not to touch the stove while it's hot?
Heavily disagree with you there. The criticism heavy side wants their complaints to be heard, and not dismissed outright. That's it. How many times were people accused of being a troll alt for disliking something? How many times were those complaints answered with "then why are you paying a sub" or "I don't see the issue/it doesn't affect me, so you're wrong"? In the latter, even when those answers aren't posted in bad-faith, they don't contribute anything to the actual topic. Offering counterpoints is fine, but most often than not, it's the way it's offered that ends up building the vitriol in here.
OP I'm gonna be real with you, your post is very easy to read as "Do the negative posters want an echo-chamber". Blowback to that is pretty expected, especially due to the state of the forums
Did this really need a post though? They already deleted the blog post of a thinly veiled threat that people who take forum disputes ingame will be banned (and just to be clear for the dense mfers who think otherwise but dming people ingame over forum disputes is cringe asf)
It’s only a matter of time before this thread goes up in flames too. It’s not contributory to the state of the game it’s purely a meta post.
I think this was a matter of who wrote the post and who it came from, and how they wrote it vs what people think/feel. Some of us do think and feel this way, but none thought to write a post about it because it is non-contributory. But then again, there are a lot of threads written by a certain person's marid of alts that are also non-contributory and yet gain far more traction in favor of their point. Probably boils down to the induvial's reputation rather than the thread.
Yes, they do. It has happened to me a few times though it has been awhile since the last.
A lot of people on the forums get mocked and ridiculed for posting with throw away alt characters on their profile, but it's a bit of protection really. Some would view it as a sign of weakness and a lack of backbone. But it's really just, we don't want to be bothered in-game over stuff from the forums. People on Twitter, Reddit, and even Twitch chat can all post confidently their thoughts without it being traced back to their main characters. The forums is much different. If you say an opinion piece and you are on the wrong side of the argument, people will know, and it could follow you. Depending on what you said/did. Some would say that's called being held accountable, but I'd just rather have that stress-free anonymous feeling that you can get from the other forums.
