I absolutely agree with you. A mentor is there to help when they can and if they can. They are not all knowing, elite players. This expectation some of the community has for mentors should be reserved for only the top few percent of players.

I'm honestly curious to know what happened to birth this thread in the first place.

The point of mentors is to share experience. Everyone's experience is different and not necessarily all-encompassing. This works really well because when one mentor doesn't know about something, another one that does is usually around. You aren't necessarily meant to rely on just one person to know everything.

Replace the crown icon with something more non-prestigous and watch the amount of "mentors" drop to single digit percentage

Some people have a complete misunderstanding of what the mentor role is. As others said, expecting a mentor to know every single mechanic of every single fight, that can come up on the roulette, is completely unreasonable. Square's mentor expectations:

Provide gameplay advice for new adventurers and other players.
Be an exemplar for player etiquette.
Invite new adventurers to the Novice Network, and answer their queries in the chat channel.

That's it. Stop expecting mentors to be a walking encyclopedia of all content. Now, if you want to complain about mentors who have a bad attitude, that's a different complaint.

If you queue for the mentor roulette, you should make sure you know all the fights you're likely to get shoved into. Yes, that includes extremes. This is not an unreasonable expectation.
Frankly, I don't think people should even be allowed to become a PvE mentor if they haven't cleared all content in the game, excepting perhaps Ultimates since that would be an unreasonable expectation.

That's bordering on 200+ instances that increases every Patch/expansion. It's absolutely unreasonable to memorize all of that and ludicrous to expect that from anyone.

I’d like for mentors knowledge to also encapsulate savage and ultimate content. As a sprout when I asked about it in novice network I was blatantly ignored. Which is still a wee bit of a sore spot even after I’ve cleared a fair amount of savage and one ultimate as of today. I had to figure it out myself.
