Black screen after launching the game

Having the same issue. Black screen after hitting play, then crash. Steam user

same issue as the rest of the steam users, black screen after play, crash, no error code whatsoever. what's with the steam account link that always creates issues for players

Steam version user here with same issue. Updated my graphics drivers, did a full reinstall and no change. SE needs to get on this.

Steam version for me as well. I have tried everything between here and Reddit to fix this to no avail. I was so excited for this patch. :\

same here...steam version..reinstalled the game three times, tried near everything...but it is always the same..black screen andthe game crashes..

edit:i found a sollution and i hope that works for you guys to.
go to :\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY XIV Online\boot and locate the ffxivboot.exe ,..make a shortcut on the desk .,.rightclick and properties...

in the target field type -issteam at the end on the targetfield...and start...

curious..that worked foor me...

It won't let me add the -issteam, says it's not a valid destination?

Edit: Turns out I was missing the space before the -, but it still didn't solve the issue with the black screen for me.

get black screen and the ffxiv cursor, can't close the came via steam or using the windows 'close window' option, need to end task with task manager

unfortunately I don't have a non-steam license so can't test that

[Edit: also reinstalled game, that didn't help either, but before that it was straight crashing on the black screen, now it just stays there until I force close]

[Edit 2: also no error code even when it was crashing]

The Steam overlay will now appear when loading the game via Steam.

After reading this, I tried various combinations.

I get the game running, when I enable steam overlay in steam (I prefer it off) and then select dx9 in the launcher and when I click play and the window opens, I directly open the steam overlay (ctrl+tab) .
Then I get the logo and game menu...
