"Free Company Houses" should not exist, they only encourage "personal/solo FC's"

Why not just make it so you only have an FC house if your FC has a certain number of active members. Say 5 for a small, 10 for a medium and 20 for a large.

That way the houses reserved for FCs are going to a group that can actually utlitize them, instead of people sitting in shell FCs with one member.

System would have done much better as FC only imo (as it was, LONG, ago). Which is not a comment against the idea that owning your own space is very enjoyable, just that I think the system SE picked, and the problems we experience, would have served better under a FC only system. . .

My preference is still hyper powerful instanced systems though. I would have definitely preferred a system that promotes early access, that consistently grows as you do.

How would one define activity, though? My FC is dead for the moment, and at the most two people will return to find a new static. We won a house, I plan to get it going once I have Gil and finish up with exams. We were a legitimate FC with no shelling but we'd get punished in your rule.

Say you run a raiding FC, and own a large. A lot, if not most of your members don't play between raids. A lot unsubscribe, a core of 3 people play each day though.

Do you lose your large?

Get rid of Personal Housing. The bend over to the loud player base made only problems so far.

And back to OG Plot Prices as well. Housing is to cheap to accomplish right now.

I mean I would pick a fc house over a private. I'd have access to the workshop.
If I didn't have a house already I would have made a FC too and got a house easier.

Imo step one to any sort of actual improvement should be to divorce every single actual gameplay feature of housing from housing. Put a workshop somewhere else, put gardens somewhere else, let orchestrions be played in inn rooms (if they can't already I don't remember). Absolutely nothing gameplay related should be locked behind a feature that they've always known and apparently always intended to be limited.
Doesn't solve the supply issue but makes it slightly less egregious for an advertised feature that currently locks more than just fun decorating time away from most players.

You can't even talk to friends if you and/or they are in any instance.
You can't help friends clear savages or whatever because you'll get punished by the loot system..
Content is so strictly designed around 4 or 8 people that you can't include everyone who wants to take part.
All and more deliberately designed to prevent players building bonds and playing together and to push them into the duty finder instead. Just so the solo player has someone to play with.

What this does and has done for a long time is drive massive divides between players and cause big groups and FCs to fall apart which isnwhy there are so many 1 or 2 man free companies and why the wards are dead because there's no bonding no community and this no neighbourhood.. there's almost no social interaction at all. typical Duty finder groups you're lucky if you get a "o/" at the start and "gg" at the end... and within 2 minutes of leaving a duty you'd have a hard time remembering the names of the people you were just playing with...

Yoshis 2 biggest obsessions and they are polar opposites, which is why they dont work.

I think the solo play comes from the fact that there is a size-able group that likes that concept and not specifically from Yoshi's personal passion. I definitely believe Yoshi's personal passion is much closer to older school mmos, including things like this neighorhood system. He however does have to cater to an audience that is larger than just himself.

Also I want to add I don't think any of those points you listed are counter to also supporting solo play.

/ I / like solo play, and I think making the MSQ small group -able- would be neat. Like just because I support solo play does not mean I don't want to be able to send messages outside of the instance I'm in.

I only say this because you are giving a very strong statement that solo play is counter to fostering a space that allows players to play in groups, and I think that isn't true. Of course there are limited funds and so you'd have trouble always doing everything, but what has solo play have to do with 8 man group content not allowing for more people to take part? That's group play vs group play..... Not even anything to do with solo play.

To me, while reading the post, it felt like you were dragging the concept of solo play through the mud for points that didn't really have any consequence to supporting that play style. Just my imo at least... lol.


Bringing it back around, the housing system I do believe was largely informed by Yoshida's passion for an older game (Dark Age of Camelot) which had a very very similar system, and as such an old school mmo had a lot more 'force you to play with others'. But look at the system, you hear ENDLESS complaints about it... In housing systems that do have instanced systems, which there are many, you hardly hear any complaints about their systems
