14' s hunt for new jobs may be overlooking a simple solution.

It's probably some spaghetti code issue. The exp for SCH and SMN are linked through ACN and breaking that link is probably more complicated than it appears from our perspective.

Maybe, but that also carries the very real risk of losing players data on who is currently a SCH/SMN/ACN. Also any achievements tied to the jobs may also have to be reworked as well.

Since they did the xp stat squish thing. I would think it would have to work where they are doing long maintenance. And old SCH is completely deleted and then uploaded as new SCH. But prob isn't worth the actual effort.

Some of those sound too similar and blend together like templar and mystic knight. I'm no FF buff so maybe there is a major difference but they just sound like other paladins or dark knights.

No, they could just stop making every buff a "damage up" and use the already existing debuffs and buffs in the game that bosses use and that blue mages have and make them actual skills.

The base classes exist only because it makes little sense to be murder hobo newly arrived to Ul'duh, able to be defeated by the combined efforts of a few squirrels, who is already somehow a part of Ul'dah's highly exclusive, semi-secret order of monarchist holy warriors. That's it. They're there, for a little bit, as to better fit storytelling and less suspend disbelief.

Now, jobs splitting their experience pools (no free SCH with your SMN meal or vice versa) from a base class after a certain level, such as Gunner leading to Machinist and Marksman, Archer to Ranger and Bard, Marauder to Warrior and Ulfednar, Warden to Dark Knight and Rune Knight, etc.? Sure, that seems more feasible, when and only when we run out of job ideas that needn't so largely share a weapon type that would likely (for that reason, among others) offer more novelty/interest than those more adjacent job ideas.

If op is referring to the article I believe they are then I recall reading the same one and it was kinda flawed.

The article made suggestions about new job concepts like an evasion tank that plays differently to other tanks bit the systems in xiv would never allow it to function in any meaningful way.. dodging raid mechanics or tank busters for example would totally break encounters.. and outside of that evasion would basically be as useless fluff. Basically like parry..

The streamlining and homogenization of literally everything has essentially shoe horned them into a corner.and gives them no real room to be creative or create unique jobs. Hence why every tank plays the same. Every healer player the same... basically every dps plays the same..... any new jobs are ultimately going to be more of the same again..

Job differences are basically aesthetic and which button combo gets you to do the thing. All buffs are basically a "this one heals, this is your number go up buff, this is your shield." that's it. Despite every boss in the game having an assortment of buffs and debuffs for itself beyond damage.

I think at least 1 expansion (next one maybe) we shouldnt get a new Job Class.
Divert all of those resources into current Job Balance.

Beastmaster: Pet based job, sayonara or limited
Puppetmaster: Pet based job, sayonara or limited (also would just be MCH with only automaton)
Corsair: Sword&Gun job could be interesting. But they don't want to make 2 separate weapons anymore.
Chemist: Chemist healer could be interesting. But they already stated they felt throwing potions would feel weird.
Geomancer: Geomancer gimmick is using the power of the area beneath them, how would you implement such job without revisiting the whole concept?
Arithmetician: Math in combat, surely it will work out perfectly. Lorewise and gameplaywise
Templar: Very close to paladin but Templar/Sentinel would be a good idea. But Spears are already used, so it would be Spear and Shield. But they also stated they don't want 2 separate weapons anymore.
Mystic Knight: Currently a request job.

So Mystic Knight, which is almost garanteed to be the "Alisaievolution" and is currently very high in demand.
I highly doubt they will name it "Mystic Knight".

the last two may be redundant. warrior is just a berserker by another name, and a lot of rune knight / spell blade went into red mage and dark knight

not all base classes need two branching paths

I agree. It‘s also a bummer that the only option for a rogue is to suddenly become a ninja using jutsus, which is thematically quite different imo. I love ninja, but I‘d love a job that thematically suits rogue‘s aesthetic, for example thief or something similar.

I always wanted Chemist as a non-magical physical healer. But since we already just got Sage and another healer job won‘t be happening in the near future, I‘d take it as a DPS role! It could use a cross bow with a potion bag.
