Not if the appeal of housing is having a house...

So I have a few houses and am trying to get one house for each alt. I have alts in every world on a data center. If they make it where everyone could easily buy a house, I would still try to get houses but it would not feel as cool. It's like everything in this game. If they made ultimate clears retarded easy where everyone can clear it, then I would still do them but it wouldn't mean as much. Any example in the game where it takes effort to accomplish something, once they nerf it, then it loses some value.
edit: Certain things in this game should be hard/take effort so that you feel a sense of accomplishment once you get it. You should feel like you worked hard and earned that house when it finally happens. If you give to everyone then it changes that feeling.
You really think people would leave their FC and make their own just for a house? I mean, if they're that dedicated, then that's ok. That would still decrease the amount of people needing a house. Right now, everyone could get a house.
Also, by limiting it as an FC housing, they could add a housing tax on FC currency that would require an active FC to maintain the house and remove the need for people to continue logging in to keep the house. This would also make it harder for people who create their own FC just for the house rather than actually making an active FC to maintain the house.
Houses don't need to be a limited resource to make getting them feel rewarding. Even if we had a fully fledged instanced housing system just making the price high enough, or meeting other prerequisites to purchase the house (such as a rep grind or a long series of quests) would make finally getting a house feel like an accomplishment.
Many things in this game feel rewarding to get without being a limited resource.
This is actually a good idea. They can have sections of housing locked and you have to accomplish certain things in game to unlock these sections. For example, if you clear a savage tier, you unlock a section, If you clear one ultimate, you unlock another section, etc. If you level up all crafting, you unlock a section with crafting themed housing. If you get certain ranks in pvp, you get another pvp themed section of housing that you can buy a house from, etc.
I wouldn't be keen on having any group content that is above normal mode for unlocking anything to do with housing. That would end up punishing players who cannot or do not want to do content above normal for whatever reason. It should be content that anyone can do in their own time without needing any sort of strict time table or weekly lockout. There are ways of creating challenging and long lasting content without it being an ex, savage or ultimate raid. Certainly it could give SE the opportunity of creating content that uses the open world a lot more.
People will always complain if a price is currently out of their reach. But at least they could not complain that the houses will be gone by the time they have the gil.
We told them there was a housing shortage well before 5.3 released.
I'm not pleased to hear they are planning it for 5.4. I'm also not pleased they are only planning to add plots.
There is a much bigger issue to housing than plots. FFXI had instanced housing and its 18 years old. They also said they wouldnt have player housing the same as FC housing. They also said they wouldnt tie housing to the subscription.
They also should allow players to share housing with alts.
There are a lot of issues with housing, adding more plots is not even a bandaid at this poimt.
