not to say anything about the patch because we don't know anything until we test them, but the saying it will increase dps is jumping to a conclusion we can't really make, yet. remember as it is now a thm has to limit itself to keep from drawing hate from the tank. even if the tanking gets better with paladin then thm could theoretically still not be able go all out without drawing hate. if that is the case neither would out dps the other.

Because if they get the cross-class limitations right, they can make the AF best in slot undisputed when on job and still keep gear balance - because AF is job specific.

Let's say for the sake of sakefullness that Black mage can't use Chameleon, but Thaumturge can. You use Freeze to lower your hate, cool. But how long before you go back into red and have to wait, versus the Thm who can lower his hate every few minutes.

There's not many fights in the game where a THM can sustainably go all out and draw hate. If a THM goes all out now, enough to draw hate, they're gonna spend that much time waiting for MP regen doing nothing.

PLD clearly will generate more hate than GLA. Most of GLA's hate generation is from native skills already, and PLD gives it a very potent heal as well.

There's no way Convert cannot increase THM's DPS - what's important is how well it will perform to that end. What effects that? The cooldown of Convert. That's one CD I'd be much more worried about being balanced than 15 minute Burst.

Let's say for the sake of sakefulness that he can use Chameleon. Let's also say for the sake of sakefulness that Freeze has a CD as low as 5m, and reduces enmity as much as Chameleon.

in any of the longer fights they can pull hate off the tank quite easily. it doesn't matter if it's darkhold, ifrit, moogle, the nm's, or the stronghold bosses. i'm not saying pld won't be vastly better and you are correct. it's just that even with the hate abilities i already spend half the fight standing and recovering mp even while almost full because i am in the red. even if i had convert on my thm i wouldn't be of any use using it at that point because one more combo would send me from the red to having hate on the mob.

i'm just pointing out that jumping to the conclusion that blm will be greater dps without us testing it compared to thm is the same as the op jumping to the other conclusion. we will know nothing for sure until we get those jobs with the patch and test them for ourselves.

It sure as hell ain't gonna be lower. Your scenario has too many variables - your hate management, your tank's efficiency, etc.

However, yes I agree. In the end, we'll know what we get when we get it.
