After playing FFXI for a few weeks, cant wait for Trusts!

I have been on both sides of this mindset. At the end of the day, even if you do fighting on your own, the game is still not a solo experience. I may be soloing and talking to the FC/Guild, a friend, or duoing with someone casually content that does not require a full party.

I mean, how often do you hear "you cant progress your crafting solo, you need to hop on the crafting roulette and be social if you want to craft! Stop pretending it's a single player game and craft with friends!" ??

A lot of people quit over every expansion, this holds true to most MMOs. I and my girlfriend (we didn't even know eachother) quit over Chains of Promethea, for instance.

I'm not saying Abyssea may had been the hardest negative hitting expansion, though. I wasn't around to see that.

I am subbed to both and play both as well :) I remember a bunch of people quitting nicer abyssea and then when seekers came out even more left due to most groups requiring fully finished relics to do the new HNM.

Personally I didn't mind abyssea..it was fun :)

As for trusts in ffxiv, I dont really think I'll be using them. I always play with friends and haven't found content where I'd need trusts yet.

To be fair, the mmo part of mmorpg's took a hit with the advent of systems like Dungeon Finder/ Duty Finder. Instead of revitalizing old content with better rewards( weapon skins, titles, mounts, gkamour armor, tomes bonuses, ect...), many games collectively cut out the need for players to go back to those areas of yesterday's adventures.

I can still recall corpse runs in Asheron's Call, having to do that Wyvern fight in FFXI to get DRG/ msq completion. Even partying up in 1.0 FFXIV for a safer way of completing "Living on a prayer" in the final days before ARR.

Point being, while i personally dislike the idea eveeyone using the same npc trust's, what better way to complete old content many won't bother going back for?

Here's to hoping we get to use Retainers/ Squadron npc's to break up the monotony.

I'm admittedly quite excited about this system, it's always difficult dealing with duty finder when I really just want to run through dungeons at my own pace, explore and read all the notes and take in the lore and atmosphere, these days most people don't really seem inclined to do anything beyond rushing forward at a breakneck pace leaving everyone else in the dust so they can finish as quickly as possible

I'm hoping that this will be done for /all/ of the story content trith be told, Bahamut coils for example are quite difficult to find a party for, after the years I've played I've still yet to complete this and it makes it feel like I'm missing a large chunk of storyline as a result in spite of already knowing what happens there, I enjoy my characters experiencing the world

Now I can have them experience it with npc characters they gave a bond with, depending on how it's implimented this could be amazing

honestly it would be nice if there was a single player + npc version of every dungeon for those who have extreme social anxiety, not everyone is cut out for being in a group with others so it can be hard when you're torn between wanting to play one of your favorite games and experience the story and being petrified of the potential that you'll screw up and your group will not be kind about it, it's actually a fear that has made me quit playing in the past as silly as that may sound

I know it was said that trust was not made to replace people, and really it's better to make some friends and go around with them, the problem is that's not always a possibility for everyone.

XI has, according to the wiki I read, 120 trusts. Many are locked behind world quests, their equivalent of MSQ, reputation, or just limited time login campaigns. XIV has a lot more resources and I could see them adding way more over time. Even if you never use them to play "solo", I can see them becoming akin to Minions that people end up collecting.

Even if they stuck only to members of the Sicons, we got at least 40 characters to develop (according to this wiki that I doubt is up to date.) and once you count all the allies (ironworks, students of baldesion, etc) the list could easily grow to 68 options. Once the system is fleshed out, I would not doubt they would start adding all sort of wacky characters, though, including characters from side quests. I fear at some point everyone will want Hildibrand on their party, though...

I can almost guarantee you that Trusts will only be available for the 70-80 dungeons.

We have Squadron Dungeons for the lower level ones if you want to run with NPCs.

I wouldn't be so sure. I don't think you can run with your squadron unless you have already done the dungeon. If the ultimate goal is to help people progress the storyline, I wouldn't be at all surprised if eventually it is possible for previous expansions to have them made available as well.

Every time they have showcased the Trust system, it has only shown the Scions in the First. Considering the amount of work it would take to apply the system to old dungeons, I really, really doubt it will ever be applied to old dungeons. Obviously we will see the system continue through Shadowbringers and into the next expansion, but have huge doubts about it ever going to old dungeons. Especially since they already have the Squadron dungeons, which is more or less the same thing (minus the requirement to have to clear it first).

And SE has already made it clear that their solution to "progressing" the dungeons of the MSQ for people who have trouble is to buy Story skip potion.

Squadrons are quite restricted. They are more of their own type of content than aid to do other content. You must have cleared the dungeon already and all that. The fact they exist, though, means that those particular dungeons may already have the needed AI groundwork in place to be doable with Trusts. I realize a lot of bosses, especially legacy ones, may have odd mechanics that will prove challenging to Trust AI and need developer scripting work to get them to work right. I am almost certain the reason this, at least at launch, will be restricted to Shadowbringer dungeons is because those dungeons are being designed with the Trust system in mind.
