After playing FFXI for a few weeks, cant wait for Trusts!

I recently decided to reactivate my Final Fantasy XI. The two things that drove me away from that game was travel time and finding a party. Back then, all I was able to do was rent a chocobo in some zones, take hours traveling only to die and return to a home point... and it would take ridiculous long amount of time to get a party going to do any progress, and then, the party may chastise you over any unconventional or sub-optimal decision you took. If you were not the healer, tank or bard, you could easily be kicked out for a more suited party member.

These days, the game has teleport points (not exactly like ours, but not that different either.) That removed all the annoyance of travel time.

They also added Trusts, and that fixed the second problem. No longer do I have to wait for a party to get some things done. It's still most optimal to party up, but I can actually do things on my own, or with just one other friend, filling the rest of the party with Trusts.

Last time I logged into this game to try to play, I was on a 30 minute queue as DPS (leveling up, not end game, the Expert Roulette seems quite fast these days even as DPS... but I want to level other jobs.) Being able to do dungeons with Trusts is going to be such a huge life changer.

To this date, I have not attempted, in great part because they [I think] are locked away behind a loooong Grand Company side game, also... does it not cap at Heavensward dungeons?

Anyways, I am here hoping they make Trusts available from 1 - 80, and not only in dungeons, but also zones. Anyways, I know it's a multiplayer game, being encouraged to play with others, I accept that. But sometimes, very often, there is just no one that qualifies to help on the content you want to do. I just hope Trusts don't end up being overly restricted "only once a day", "only these select dungeons" or anything like that.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you on wanting trusts in the over world.
It would be terribly dis-enchanting to be seeing the same NPCs over and over with other players in the zone. ><
I assume they will be dungeon only. Though I prefer to play with friends and other people so I'll likely only use Trust if there are rewards linked to it or the MSQ demands it, which is fine.

Side note: XI has teleport points now? Ha, I used to make my living being a tele-taxi WHM main.

Personally, I like seeing them on FFXI, but for what it's worth, seems many agree with you there too. They have a client setting that allows players to hide other's Trusts from view.

I prefer to play with friends and FC, but I am rarely fond of playing with strangers, even then, it's not always easy to get that DPS queue moving.

    Yea, they have two flavors:
    Crystal Home Points:
These are almost always on cities, with few exception. You can set them as home points. You can teleport from any Home Point to another Home Point, for 500gil if it's on a city, 1000 gil if it's on the wild. (I think that's the logic)
Eventually you do a quest that lowers the cost to 100/200 respectively

    Field Survival Guides:
There is one of these on most zones, one on each main city, and one on every dungeon (on the main entrance only.) I forget the price of these ones, there is a weekly world quest that once completed removes the cost of these completely. You can only teleport in from one Survival Guide to another.

If you are in the middle of a zone, you still need some form of warp (scroll, spell, warp ring... suicide) to get back to your HP and move through the network. Teleport to the Big Crystals (Crags and the like) are still only the domain of WHM spells, but I think they are not that convenient, especially since you can just climb your own mount anywhere on the map now.

It is surprising how drastically the teleporting and Trusts has changed the game from a draconian unforgiving experience to a very casual fun. Now... if they did something about that horrible UI...

Sometimes you just have no choice. In Domain Invasion for instance you can have 30 people participating, each with 5 trusts in tow... that's a LOT of character models on the screen and it causes problems in a game engine that old.

What if they made it where you could use your customized retainers? Then it's not the same NPC.

im going to have to strongly disagree with you. It would be amazing to see the same npcs over and over. Feels like a real adventure like the amazing adventure with friends in ff15! feel more connected with the npcs and not just have them stand in one spot as you do all the work. Its an online, some things just have to be lore breaking or seems implausible because a lot of people have the same raid mounts or soon over 1k of the ff15 cars driving around.

The long trips to camp and hard to reach places are one of the things that I found endearing, beautiful scenery and a legitimately dangerous over world even at max level. Definitely miss it. I never found trusts to be great either, I'd rather level the old fashioned way and forge great new friendships sharing in the challenges of the game in the pre abyssea era. And this is coming from someone who's first 75 was loldrg pre-toau lol...

The Trust system works in FFXI because it was needed as the playerbase is little to non-existent while levelling now and doing story missions solo now make sense as most players ain't going to go back to content to help players complete if that content is no longer relevant to endgame.

The trust system isn't needed in FFXIV what so ever because the playerbase is very much alive at all levels due to roulette which already fixes the need for trust npcs.

However if the dev team are deciding to move away from roulette/tomestone system then trusts will be needed in order for new players to clear dungeons etc.

I don't think this was true at the time the Trust system was added. I cant find an exact date, the best date I find is expanding Trust availability mid 2014, the game's 4th expansion came sometime in 2013. The bulk of the population was likely already at the end game, but that, I think, also is true in this game.

It's slow for a DPS to find group to clear dungeons leveling these days and, when it happens, they want to rush rush rush because "tomes per minute!".

Eventually, the system will be as needed here as it is today in FFXI, but at it's introduction to that game, it was as needed there as it is here today. Ironically enough, Trusts are coming to XIV for the game's 4th expansion (if you count 2.0/Real Reborn as an expansion.) Roulettes don't fix the issue, they make the game a lot more stressful for players still learning the rope, and aggravate those players that are there only because it's the most optimal way to earn tomes.

I am not sure why you feel it's not needed, when the devs are already making it a feature for the expansion. Obviously they do feel it's needed.

Not to mention, people treating this like a single player game when it's really not.
This has always been an issue. Even before Palace of the Dead, it was an issue. The truth is, if you want certainty that the group is all skillful, you always have to pre-make the party. Has always been this way, regardless how much the elite want the roulette system to belong to them. Use party the party tools to only demand players with clears into your party, among all those other parameters you get.
