They don't look particularly virtuous to me, but I could say maybe Envy on the left, and either Wrath, Gluttony or even Sloth (since it seems to have somewhat of a crawl going on) on the right.

Of course, if they're literally eating Sin, perhaps they start out as Virtues and become corrupt over time... Humility becomes Pride, sort of thing...

Left - Kindness/Patience women's face on the thing doesn't seem like it could be the others
Right - Temperance only one that i feel could fit

These are monstrosities/abominations a perversion of light, these could be the virtues twisted to a nightmarish degree just like the light is destroying existence the devs could be doing the whole turning them on their heads trope. I could be wrong they could be the sins but being called sin eaters makes me think they'd be the virtues instead.

EDIT: Also Innocence is a sin eater so i do think the sin eater naming convention will lead more on the positive side of personality rather than the negative

I wonder if the Laws governing Time apply to the Lifestream? If the Sin Eaters result from an on-going Flood of Light, then it's theoretically possible that they could appear in different worlds at different times.

The difference between a Flood of Light and Flood of Dark makes no sense to me honestly. If they are two sides of the same coin shouldn't they just do the same thing with a different colour pallet? My current thinking is that both the First and Thirteenth have been having their respective floods for a while starting vaguely at the same time as each other, and progressing at the same pace. We've simply paid more attention to the Void because the majority of the population of the Source views Light as natural and good and Dark as unnatural and evil, thus we simply didn't blink twice when Amdapor summoned Sin Eaters into our world during the War of Magi.

Well the four cardinal virtue in Bayonetta weren't very good looking, before and after their outer shell broke away btw

While not a perfect fit, the game seems to be pointing toward Light and Darkness representing Chaos and Order. Ascians are agents of Darkness, and their primary tool seems to be chaos. If this is the case, then a Flood of Darkness would create a zone of total chaos, while a Flood of Light would create a zone of total Order. However you might imagine a realm of complete order or disorder, chances are you wouldn't imagine them being exactly alike. In the case of this game, they imagined a realm of total order having no room for living things (or even things at all), as any deviance would disrupt the order of it all. A Flood of Light eventually leaves a clean, uniform, nothingness.

Total chaos, on the other hand, has room for bits of order in it (like life forms), because chaos is not uniformly anything. It's pretty much the opposite of uniformity.

Also worth pointing out: The First isn't flooded YET. It's on the way there, but hope remains that we can help it to recover. There is still a chance to save it, which is why the Warriors of Darkness came to the source, and why Minfilia herself left for the First. There is no hope for the Thirteenth; the flood occurred more than ten thousand years ago, and has long since finished wiping out the Shard.

I am glad i am not the only one who thought of the amdapori statues. so a few thoughts...

@mooose they most likely came from a flooded light world totally consumed much like the void. It's the only answer that makes sense. Probably a shard we don't know about or something else.

It would be interesting if we knew which "deity" appeared first in the war of the magi in the fifth astral era. Perhaps the void link was alrdy established. It would seem the war of the magi was front for an actual war going on between sin eaters and voids and perhaps a nymian deity we have yet to encounter unless its fairies.

Again i do wonder if the nymians had a deity other than fairies used in that war.

Again blms and scholars would have experience dealing with amdapori statues so why pray tell must we become warriors of darkness?

Thinking back to this and the question of Amdapor having Sin Eaters, I reckon it may not be entirely farfetched that the First has been slowly flooding for eras now. It might also explain why it's taking the Derplander all his strength to defeat the Kuribu in the trailer, the one summoned into Amdapori times was far weaker as the Flood of Light in the First was less widespread, but now it covers most of the first and as such Kuribu are much more powerful. It may also explain the power differential between the Amdapori Lion and the Holy Cow, the Holy Cow was (likely inadvertently) summoned into Eureka much more recently and as such it kind is much stronger than it was in the days of Amdapor.

One thing to be clear on: the things we fought in Amdapor were NOT Sin Eaters. They were golems in the likeness of Sin Eaters. The question being posed is not so much "how did Sin Eaters get into Amdapor?", but rather, "How did the Amdapori know what Sin Eaters look like?".

The answer to this COULD involve Sin Eaters somehow coming to Amdapor at some point, after which the Amdapori designed Golems to look like them - or it could involve Amdapori peeking into other Shards somehow, or finding records of Allagan research into creating high concentrations of Light, or accidentally spawning Sin Eaters through their own experiments, or any of a number of other possibilities.

One of the most interesting mysteries regarding Sin Eaters, I think, is that they seem to exist only for a brief time. A Flood of Light leaves nothing, not even Sin Eaters. An unflooded world (presumably) has no Sin Eaters. So these creatures only exist for the period of time when a Flood is imminent or in progress. Are they created from humans and animals, like the Voidsent are? What are their motivations during this brief span of existence? Do they seek to devour Aether, like the Voidsent do? Since the Flood endangers them, as well, are they in favor of stopping it? Or do they want it to continue?

I would say they probably want both to stop the flood but also to maintain it, i even think there is a hierarchy within the sin eaters like the voidsent lesser beings to do grunt work while higher up beings like Innocence making sure the flood of light doesn't consume too fast. Judging by Eulmore in trailer it seems like the Sin eaters are trying to not be noticed
