Really want a magic tank

It would have the PLD treatment where when taking damage during casting spells does not interrupt the cast unless its a stun or paralyze. It could have one or two long range spells for off tank dps. And several quick cast spells such an enmity generation and key mitigation spells, while you can have more powerful spells have a 1 or two second cast time.

Well I wouldn't say we "need" that at all. It would introduce more variety, but the fact that it's a caster tank at all will do that.

Not all heavy armour has to be strictly "heavy", take the wildrose/firion stuff, it's basically pauldrons with a light corset and a cape, or he'll any number of the stormblood fending sets which are similar.
Once you factor in the job specific peices that you can glamour over anything that's BiS, it's really not a problem.

Having more than one set of Tank gear, or Healer gear for that matter, is really going to complicate things in terms of balance, and for fairness in receiving them as drops.
That's a can of worms SE doesn't want to open, that's not the sit of variety we need.

Besides, having a magic tank share gear would open up the possibilities of giving the existing tanks less 'heavy' gear.
You could turn your OLD into a real Sword Saint a la Tactics, or make a DRK "reaper" complete with a hooded black cloak. If that's the sort of gear they gave us for it.

They don't have to do that necessarily, a unique trait can fix that. Say they decide to do a DoW healer, I'd imagine it'd come with a trait that says 75% of total strength also counts towards mind.

It would more likely just use strength or dexterity as its primary stat.

Not if it uses spells primarily. I can see a mechanic like the old cleric stance working, wherein a physical portion of the rotation uses strength, then an ability converts strength into INT for the magic portion, that would make for a rotation akin to the punishment of not adhering to combos

Kind of makes me think back to Powertechs/The Trooper equivalent in TOR (I can't remember the name of the latter atm), where they were supposed to be styled as a sort of medium ranged tank, but most of the mobs in that game were melee anyway.

Bit of a disappointment that none of the MMOs can really do this sort of concept justice, because it'd be fairly interesting, imo.

If it uses spells primarily surely it would be a Disciple of Magic job, not a Disciple of War.
In which case INT or MND would be the primary stat and it's physical abilities would use that same stat as well, just like RDM does.

Though, in my opinion, thinking about STR, DEX, INT and MND like they are different things is a waste of time. It's the exact same stat for every job, the only thing that changes is the name.
